It took me a good ten years + of writing to get a first poetry pamphlet out there, launched today. I’m 60. Lots of great women writers I know are older. Stuff your ageism where the sun don’t shine, and cram your misogyny in with it for company. Peace and love x

Danish Scurvygrass was chewed by sailors to avoid scurvy as full of vitamin C. It used to grow mainly on the coast but now by motorways too, as this was today, thriving on traffic "winds" and salt from gritters, it thinks it is by the sea still. #WildflowerHour

@MichaelRosenYes I wouldn’t be doing my poetry MA now if this rule was applied. I wasn’t even *allowed* to take Maths at what was then GCE level at my Secondary Modern school but ended up managing a finance office. My brother wasn’t allowed to take Art GCE and ended up at the Royal Academy.

I was sad to say I had never seen a wild orchid in the flesh, and this week had no idea about #OrchidChallenge for #WildflowerHour . I wandered, a bit stressed, across a local grass verge by a motorway bridge, and a different sort of pink caught my peripheral vision - bee orchids!

I bought a bunch of what I thought were standard daffs but then this one opened up today. I’ve discovered it is Narcissus poeticus, the poet’s daffodil, and today is World Poetry Day! This makes up for the rejection I also received today.

Dear poetry comps and mag editors, strongly recommend you let all your submitting poets know the outcome. A nicely worded email for a rejection/not being placed in a comp will be commented on in the writing community and give you a fab reputation. Also just common courtesy yeah.

I’ve never won a money winner prize in a poetry comp. Once my poem got on a bus which was great because my grandad was a bus conductor. This year suddenly a commendation and a long listing in two big comps. Grandad liked poetry I hope he’s paying attention up there.
