This stunning crown was worn by Blanche, daughter of Henry IV, at her 1402 wedding It likely originally belonged to Anne of Bohemia, queen of Richard II (who Henry IV had deposed in 1399). It may date from 1370, making it the oldest surviving crown once owned by English royalty

I've been given a teaching award from my university, which means a lot, as I've been teaching virtually for the past few years & have developed a real passion for online learning. This is also my last full year of uni teaching (maybe ever?) so feels extra special 🥰

When the cat sharpens his claws on the couch/carpet, we blow on him. He HATES it & it’s super effective. We’ve taught the 3-year-old to do it too if she catches him clawing fabric Today the 3 year old told me a boy ripped her art project at school. Friends, she blew on him 😩

I’m finally back in action after a nasty bout of pneumonia. My writing desk looked extra festive for a podcast recording last night and it’s ready to go for another live lecture for my Women in Late Medieval England course today 🥰 It’s SO nice to get back to my medieval women

I promise this won't become a medieval makeup account BUT I just translated a 13th-century recipe to keep eyebrow hairs from growing back & I have to share: Take ant eggs, dip them in oil IN WHICH A HEDGEHOG HAD BEEN COOKED, & put them on the skin under your eyebrows 😩😩😩😩

#OTD in 1536: the execution of 5 men accused of adultery w/ Anne Boleyn Did one of them carve this memorial to their doomed queen during their imprisonment? This graffiti survives on the wall of a cell in the Beauchamp Tower at the @TowerOfLondon - depicting Anne’s falcon badge
