Author of 7 books, nonfiction and novels, Came to writing following careers as an RN, and as a college prof. NO DMs please, unless I have agreed/know you.
Remember.... If you live in an environment at home where it is unsafe to disagree, and there are consequences to simple disagreement, then you are being controlled. Control is not love.
@jtrebach
For many years, patients who were bitten by snakes were told to bring them to the ER for identification, so you are battling about forty years of prior instruction ! I do remember one snake escaping from the mayonnaise jar in the ER in the 80s.
@DrZedZha
I did my share of extra duties for a time. Eventually, I set a boundary, and when they asked why, I said that it takes time away from my children, and that no one at the grocery store discounts anything for me because I give additional time. From then on, I was paid extra.
@RIDICULO_pathy
I think you need to seriously consider the possibility that his teacher is indeed "a wretched and vile woman," and help him to plot strategy as to how he is to coexist with her until the end of this particular school year. I support your son's use of precise descriptors.
@nursekelsey
I understand. One of my sons died at age 12, and one died last year at 32. I have been unable to scatter either set of ashes. As silly as that is, I think they would want their ashes as close to their parents and other siblings. It's funny how we react to insensible loss.
@DrEricBall
When my daughter was diagnosed with T1D at age 9, the endocrinologist said, "I should have listened to you, because you are an RN". I told him any time a primary caregiver of a child says something is wrong, we should all listen. Glad you know this.
@afshineemrani
My great grandparents used to provide all the fruit to UC Berkeley, from their farm. They also sent ALL of their children there. They would certainly be upset to see what UC Berkeley has become.
@kevinjkerr
Why after training to be a cardio-thoracic surgeon, which is a very challenging process, does he wish to be a television personality and a politician ? What was wrong with helping people through cardiac surgery? I'm not being snide. I want to know.
@DrSuneelDhand
Psychiatric facilities (private or state) always have a much more challenging time around the full moon. Some of us used to try to take it as a day off.
@gretchemaben
I am very sorry to hear about this. Please take very good care as your own doctors locate all of your potential injuries. Has anyone been able to check on your dogs yet ? I know that is a big worry.
@LaraAHayes
How is it possible that they practice medicine without any type of medical education without answering to a "practicing medicine without a license" charge ?
@MrsPA_C
I have lost two sons, fifteen years apart. I deliberately did not let out the cry of which you speak until later, when I was alone. I didn't want to inflict that pain on the members of the helicopter ICU, the doctor on the phone,my other children, or my husband.
@SpiritedSparr0w
I have lost both my 12 year old son Daniel, and my 32 year old son Matthew, in losses fourteen years apart. The man above is absolutely correct. Honor your grief, and you are the expert on how to do that.
@WFKARS
@mass_marion
@cvspharmacy
Our local CVS made us wait four hours for an opioid because they didn't wish to give it to a "young adult". My son had been given a written Rx for pain following a severe injury from lightning. We won't set foot in there now.
@IhabFathiSulima
Proton pump inhibitors are known to drop magnesium levels and may cause arrhythmias, in susceptible individuals. However, severe problems with skin are often due to zinc deficiencies. My guess is that it could be either of these.
@EM_RESUS
Amen. There used to be a physician who used to call me before he took his wife out to dinner, and ask if I "had any concerning feelings about any of his patients" in the ICU. He was making it about intuition, when it was about pattern recognition....mostly.
@harryfisherEMTP
I am truly sorry that your wife chose to leave. My prayer for you is that when you are ready, you find someone who is a better and more suitable helper and spouse to you, and who will understand the courage you exercise daily.
@bozlawpa
Interestingly, the same thing happened to my grandmother, in California, many years ago. She extricated herself losing both her job and her apartment at the time.
@gretchemaben
I am so sorry about this, but seriously, your health is so much more important than summiting. Are you getting acetazolamide ? The dogs need you, and so do the people !
@ashbinks2588
Ashley, Even if he goes back on the vent for a day or two, he will go back with the correct size tube, and so his discomfort and restlessness should be less than it was. Either way, he is making progress, and you are doing a great job of mothering under difficult conditions!
@LFCGRUMPYFROG
We don't know what underlying medical and endocrine problems exist. We don't know what steroids were necessary in the control of those illnesses. We help more people when we understand rather than judge.
@PeterSweden7
A cultural collision, the result of not vetting criminals from other nations, and by accepting too many refugees into a small and otherwise homogenous country ?
@jtrebach
Many years ago, my son Daniel, 3, had to have a CAT scan. He fought with everything he had because he was afraid of the cats that would be in the white tunnel. Of course, we didn't know this until much later.
@AshleyGWinter
I used to use a peri bottle with warm water, and squirt them over the toilet. I had five children. Wipes were expensive and made a lot of trash.
@joshmcgoo
I think it's one reason that some of the nastiest patients can be those with COPD, or other difficulties breathing. It's hard to be patient when you are short of breath and can't repeat yourself.
@realdanieltitus
I have lost two of my sons. One died suddenly 15 years ago, at age 12, and one died a year ago, suddenly at age 32. I am still worshiping the God who sent them to me in the first place, and to whom they returned.
@danaparish
I didn't, but my 32 year old son Matthew died suddenly at the end of November. We are devastated. It may take weeks to months to get a complete autopsy report.
@Dr_mac2
As a nurse I never came to the ER without a real emergency, but if you're not, and you're afraid, then an overreaction is better than ignoring symptoms and having your child die from an undiagnosed DKA.
@OGdukeneurosurg
In TTTS or twin transfusion syndrome, one twin has polyhydramnios and the other oligohydramnios. Because a high rate of mortality exists in this disorder, an amnioreduction is done, as we see, in order to balance this fluid.
@IhabFathiSulima
Microcephaly, which can be due to Zika, or a number of other genetic or congenital issues ranging from Cornelia de Lange Syndrome to mercury poisoning.
@HulhesdbDeborah
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. My 32 year old son also died, in his sleep, on Monday. Cause unknown. Still at the Medical Examiner's. Love and best wishes to you during this very difficult time.
@HollyStallcup
A long time ago, I broke an engagement. I later realized I missed the ring more than the man. So, I bought myself an amethyst and diamond disengagement ring. This is too important a step not to get right, and this is directed to both ladies and gentlemen.
@MarthaByrne10
@instagram
I was hacked on FB and because the accounts were connected I lost Instagram also. I have been unable to convince FB that I am me. I will not be returning.
@dexteristwisted
@sarcasticmommy4
My father was so different between my brother and I and my five children that I once asked him, "Who are you and what have you done with my father ?!!"
@acweyand
My 32 year old son died 11/22/22, 38-39 hours following a flu shot. VAERS report has been filed. Children and adults do die on occasion following vaccines. Two autopsies were done.
@catsscareme2021
My son received a flu shot in November, 2022. He was completely healthy and had just turned 32. He died in his sleep 30 plus hours later. VAERS filed.
@thanh_neville
This is simply because they saw their loved one as just a person, and you are seeing them just in their 9th decade. It's a testament to love when families grieve so hard for a family member whose body has simply worn out.
@jtrebach
When I went to school, we were taught that Hashimoto's thyroiditis is quite rare. Now five of us from that class have it. Not as rare as we might think.
@IhabFathiSulima
Eclampsia. Praying that the mother recovered. Women do sometimes recover. I had eclampsia following the evening after the birth of my fourth child. I actually expected to die.
@lisa_iannattone
Regardless of cause, many patients understand very little about the need for a recent hospitalization and what was done there. This is true whether it was hepatitis, cholecystitis, or an infectious disease.
@AngelJonesPhD
I am so sorry that happened to you. I am also sorry that you did not feel comfortable calling police and allowing them to exchange the information. I also trust your perception that this was not safely possible in that situation. Blessings to you.
@emilykmay
Good, because too often the families of those lost to suicide are told that in a number of Christian faiths, their beloved family member cannot now go to Heaven. If I can understand that a person who commits suicide may not be in their right mind, God can too.
@LakotaMan1
I don't care about color and ethnicity. I dislike it any time any race, color or creed fails to take each person as they come. I'm still looking at the content of each person's character, and there are good people, and not-so-good people in every group.
@MSharifpourMD
All physicians need to have more respect for one another. Dermatologists detect systemic illness in the course of treating "rashes". Psychiatrists detect endocrinologic disorders sometimes in the course of diagnosing anxiety and depression. Everyone does important work.
@CartlandDavid
I also did not administer a single COVID injection to anyone. I stepped back from practice rather than accepting the extremely high hourly rate I would have been given to administer the injections at a variety of locations. I am not alone.
@KayeSteinsapir
What a beautiful girl. My son Matt passed suddenly in November. Yes, the days are hard, and sometimes, the nights worse. I have to believe that God has them both and that they are safe and happy.
@Woden
I have now lost two sons. One at 12, and one at 32. I have no answers other than to enjoy whatever time we have together, and make sure they know how much we love them, and what a joy it was to have the chance to parent them. I am told that Heaven is much more fair, and I believe
Today is the 33rd birthday of my son Matthew who died suddenly nearly one year ago, in his sleep, following an influenza shot 30+ hours earlier. Two autopsies revealed a healthy young man. Matthew, you are loved and very much missed.
@IhabFathiSulima
Testicular torsion is a painful disorder which must be attended to within 6 hours, otherwise the testicle may require surgical removal. Occasionally, a urologist can untwist a testicle. Ice is also helpful. Can impact any male, often age 12-18, or with bell clpr. deformity.
@DesireeAmerica4
There are plenty of good gun control laws. It would be helpful if they were followed. States don't always follow them, and criminals never will.
@thepedipals
I don't know anyone who thinks that physicians do not have value. I just think that many people think that people were pushed to telemedicine/e-med where they can't be examined or have their chest auscultated, at the convenience of the system, not for their own benefit.
@jtrebach
Boost chocolate pudding nutritional supplement is way more fun, at 240 calories a serving, and a resident can almost ingest it in seconds. I saw lots of residents who almost existed on this or a similar product.
@RIDICULO_pathy
I know a lot of nurses, and many in high positions. I have never met one who makes 300K. Was he telling the truth or does she have other income streams ?
@smalltownDO
Most RNs know that the process of creating a good physician from a new graduate through residency is a difficult and emotional one. Please cut yourself some slack. Very few residents have not had some very tearful days.
@AvrahamCooperMD
Purple urinary bag syndrome or PUBS is seen in prolonged suprapublic or urethral catheterization with a concurrent UTI. Green urine can occur with certain drugs or with Pseudomonas sp.
@Snowden
Please regulate your children's screen time. Your mind developed as it did as a result of all the activities you enjoyed and apparently perfected.
@RIDICULO_pathy
Your son is cut from better cloth than most. The challenge will be supporting him in perceptions that may well be true, while helping him get through the school year. Your son is a good man.
@realgirl_fieri
Judging from the number of children in the US foster care system who have permanent irreversible brain damage following "shaken baby syndrome" it's still a serious problem, hence the pamphlets.
@afshineemrani
Amen. I have had the same experience with my ICU patients, and it was a gift to me. When two of my children died, within years of one another, it was one of the things that enabled me to cope with their terrible losses. God is indeed very good, and he loves us ALL.
@DrZedZha
Your patients are very fortunate in that you understand the fact that much of "non-compliance" occurs for complex reasons well beyond simple patient choice.
@MoarSahitoPTI
A.) Propranolol because of potential for bronchospasm
however, many patients with asthma, with concurrent conditions, are ordered beta blockers, and simply observed for potential side effects.
