Somebody else pointed this out, but the fact that Studio Ghibli's works have been sanded off to be "wholesome feels" kind of ignores the fact that most of their works are about the 20th century's failures to enrich the human experience.

If you dug Asteroid City and you haven't seen Bad Day at Black Rock from 1955, you should. Perfect piece of 1950s genre cinema. At only 81 minutes, it's perfect, tight little gem shot in CinemaScope and packed with the era's best character actors.
