Hello! I'm Erika McCorkle, author of the Pentagonal Dominion novel series. You can call me Erika or Kira (internet name).
Here's where you can get my books and find some other material from me!
I currently have these two books out and my third will be out on November 8th!
I am fucking SHAKING right now. Got a full manuscript request from the one publishing house I most want to be with, and the letter was personalized in such a way that I... I'm just fucking TOUCHED. 😭😭😭
I like purple prose
I like descriptions of scenery
I like knowing what characters are wearing
I like abstract metaphors
PAINT ME A PICTURE WITH YOUR WORDS
The first sci fi novel was written by a woman
The first novel was written by a woman
The earliest author we know the name of was a woman
Get the fuck outta here
People often make topics asking for cute pics of animals when they're feeling down, but... honestly, the 'normal' animals don't do it for me.
Post pics/gifs of cute* animals, but NO dogs or cats. I want to see animals who don't get as much love!
*Reptiles/fish are also cute!
It’s my birthday!! 🥳🥳🥳 One year ago today, I signed my contract with Shadow Spark Publishing and now my book is out, getting rave reviews, making peoples’ brains melt and their hearts break, and I am the happiest I’ve ever been. 🥰💕✨
I was going to ignore this, but I can't. We're all entitled to our opinions, so here's mine. I LOVE when fantasy novels have calm or relaxing moments. I love getting to know the characters at peace. I love seeing their world when it's beautiful. I don't want tension all the time.
If I'm reading a fantasy novel and the mc spends the whole middle third calmly touring the realm on horseback and attending elaborate balls, I'm not gonna burn it, but I am definitely gonna daydream about burning it.
Fantasy can have romance and sex in it
Fantasy can have no romance or sex in it
Fantasy can take a hard look at oppression
Fantasy can be a fun adventurous romp with no oppression involved
I don't even know who I'm subtweeting. Just seeing a lot of shit out of context.
Chonky books are great, actually. Especially if they include a bunch of smaller details that don't "advance the plot." I want to immerse myself in a neat world and get to know the characters for who they are, not for how they can impact the story.
@AlexLucoMusic
My unpopular fantasy take is that I don't like royal characters "by default." Basically, you have to give me a reason to like a royal, and even more reasons why I should cheer for them.
I'm overwhelmed.
It seems to be an author, you have to:
-keep up with at least 3 social media accounts
-have a website
-have a newsletter
-do interviews
-ask bloggers, reviewers, etc. to talk about your book
-do book tours/signings
-pester Bookbub forever
-be happy about all this
*sigh* Didn't think I'd come to Twitter to see a mega-popular author shitting on present tense, but here we are.
I will only ever be a small indie, but if you saw that tweet and are second-guessing your present-tense novel, stop. Keep writing your novel as it was meant to be.
I’m pleased to announce that I am joining Shadow Spark Publishing!
They will be publishing my Merchants of the Pentagonal Dominion trilogy.
My debut novel, MERCHANTS OF KNOWLEDGE AND MAGIC, will be released on April 8th, 2022.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me.💕✨

If you hate AI being used in writing, then you should also hate it being used in art. It comes across as hypocritical when you're worried about AI taking *your* job, but you post AI generated images every day
I'm not sure where this started, but I've been seeing some tweets saying the market is oversaturated with fantasy and I just wanna say... no. No, it's not. If it were so oversaturated with the exact kind of fantasy I want to read, I wouldn't have to write these damn books myself.
This is 100 percent true and correct. But I want to add also, worldbuilders shouldn't be shamed if they DO include bad things. If someone doesn't want to read fantasy sexism and slavery, stay away from fiction that portrays it and leave those authors alone.
There’s no “should” in speculative worldbuilding. Yes, you CAN make a grimdark fantasy setting with violence and horror without SA, slavery, racism, or misogyny. Yes, you CAN create a solarpunk tech utopia where disabled people exist fully, openly, and at the forefront!
Being autistic, I have no idea if I'm missing out on obvious social cues or not. There are so many people I've thought of as "Twitter friends", but I suspect they can't stand me. So... yeah, if you think of me as a friend, please make it clear because I'm fucking oblivious.
Trying to make a safe space🥺
Sometimes I feel unwanted or like I'm intruding in your Twitter space.
So, this may be a bit lame, but post here if you're okay with me replying to you. I want to put the people I know are cool with me in a List so I can lovingly Twitter-stalk them.

Stolen from Tumblr. This is EXACLTY what I do every time I discover a plot hole and can't find a better way to smooth it out. I'll just make it a ✨quirk✨of the PD's world.
You know those writers who have 500-1000 followers, and yet their every post gets a hundred likes and replies after an hour? What demon did they sacrifice to for that algorithm magic? I swear one day I'm "writer Twitter popular", the next I'm invisible, and back and forth.
Shit, I had something planned for my 15K follower celebration. I'm at 14,996 and I am NOT READY YET. What can I say to get some people to unfollow me?
I WRITE SEX SCENES
I WRITE BIG FANTASY NOVELS
I WRITE A SHIT TON OF WORLDBUILDING
I SWEAR A LOT
I USE ELLIPSES AND SEMICOLONS
Hello, fellow writers! I am Kira/Erika (either is fine).
Feel free to DM me if it's about writing. ☺️
Every day I ask a question to the

. These are often for fantasy writers, but feel free to join in any time your story applies!😄
I have nothing against people voicing their unpopular opinions, but I think we need to counter some of that energy with some positivity.
Writers, what's something about your books that might be unpopular, but you LOVE and you write about proudly?
Me? I love my chonky epics
My m*ga mom today asked me how my book was doing. Told her it's been published. She wants to buy it.
Me: "You wouldn't like it."
Her: "I might not read it, but I want a book on my shelf with my daughter's name on the spine."
You know what? I can accept that.
Every god damn post here is about you-know-what. I just want to see people talking about their books.
#Writers
, whether it's a published work, a wip, or just something you're imagining for now, tell me about your story. Include art if you want!
"Fantasy is fundamentally YA"
Ah yes, let's get my epic fantasy books with rape, torture, mutilation, cannibalism, revenge plots, sex, gore, swearing, kinks, discussion of child abuse, burying landlords alive, and adult topics like taxes into the hands of teenagers.
Came across this on another site:
“If someone uses the word ‘okay’ in a fantasy story, it immediately takes me out of the story.”
Let me tell you why I use ‘okay’ in my fantasy world, why I think other people should, and why I’m not going to stop just because it annoys you.
Dear writers who write about royals/nobles/otherwise titled characters,
Keep their styles consistent, please. I don't care if they are historically accurate, but keep them consistent in-book.
"Don't use the word resume in your fantasy novel because it comes from French and your world doesn't have France."
"He ate beef before putting on his cuirass and going to war."
Whoops, guess I can't use beef, cuirass, or war since they're French origin.
Write your damn book.
I haven't been unfollowed by any 'real' accounts recently.
Reminder I:
-swear a lot
-write long epic fantasy with sex scenes
-kinky sex scenes at that
-am pro-LGBTQ+
-want to eat the rich
-love self/indie-pubbed books
-like to use semicolons, em-dashes, and ellipses
✨🌈COVER REVEAL🌈✨
MERCHANTS OF KNOWLEDGE AND MAGIC is a story about an intersex aroace dragonfly-person on a quest for hidden knowledge in a fantasy world unlike any you've ever seen before.

I have signed and sent my contract to have three books of the Good Thyme Inn stories published with Shadow Spark Publishing!
CHRONICLES OF THE GOOD THYME INN, starting with Book 1: MEMORIES OF THE GOOD THYME INN will be coming to you next year😘
I LOVE MAPS!
Maps in fantasy books, RPGs, video games, etc. I like to look at maps before engaging in the story and guess things about the world or plot based on locations.
Post a map from a fictional world of your creation and I'll make some predictions!
#WritingQ
I don't know if this is an autism thing or a me thing, but does anyone else have to speak "deliberately"? Like, actively think about what you're about to say/type before you do it?
Then when you DO say something automatically, panic later about whether you said it right?
I'M A FINALIST IN THE INDIE INK AWARDS! 🥳🥳🥳
OMG THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! 😍 I'm astonished and thrilled that MERCHANTS OF LIGHT AND BONE got into so many amazing categories! 🥰
If you've been on the fence about reading it, check out what other people think it did well in!
⚡️MERCHANTS OF LIGHT AND BONE🦴
-Polyamory
-Grief
-Intense worldbuilding
When the ground opens to reveal a trove of precious, demon-slaying crystals, the nation rejoices. But Amiere isn't celebrating: his daughter died when the ground opened up beneath her.
More info below:
I DID IT! I wrote my last sentence in MoKaM! 😭 The manuscript isn't finished tho. I *did* skip a scene or two... gotta go back and write those. But DAMN I AM EXCITED! 😂 I'm sorta high on my own excitement right now! No WritingQ today. Gotta chill out. 😊😁

PLEASE stop judging people based on whether or not they use their real face online!
It might seem like a silly thing to you. Some of you are pretty, comfortable in your own body, or otherwise feel fine and safe with your face as your pfp. NOT EVERYBODY FEELS THAT WAY.
@SAStudioADHD
@FIVESGRLFRND
lol, it was because one of those "where's your light source?" tweets that when you did this pic for me, I went into super worldbuilding over-explainer detail about how the flowers glow and ✨'light just comes out of nowhere'✨
I need an emotional support non-American. I'm not picky. I don't care where you're from. Australian, Canadian, Indian, Nigerian, Brit, Irish, Icelander, Finn, Swede, Kiwi. Actually, I'd like one of all of those. I want a house full of emotional support non-Americans.
More adult SFF should have MCs who do horrible things. I'm not reading to acquire a role model. I have my morals set in stone. I just want to read a story of someone fucking shit up and changing the status quo without regard for the system's rules.
I think book blogging is cool, and I'd love to do it. But one thing: I hate rating. I wish I could "review" books without a star rating. I want to talk about the content of the books without needing to judge them on whether those things are 'good' or 'bad.' Does that make sense?
Even if every other writer was using AI to assist them...
Even if it was considered totally ethical to use AI in writing...
Even if it was ENCOURAGED to help get books out faster...
I would not do it.
They said publishers wouldn't take a risk on an epic fantasy author's debut novel if it's over 120K words.
@ShadowSparkPub
took a chance on my 150K-word debut.
MERCHANTS OF KNOWLEDGE AND MAGIC is now complete, edited, and fucking awesome. I'm proud to have authored it. 💕✨
🚨THIS IS A SAFE SPACE FOR ELLIPSES🚨
I REPEAT: THIS IS A SAFE SPACE!
Readers and writers who LOVE ellipses, join me here in celebrating our three favorite dots!
🥳...🥳...🥳...🥳...🥳...🥳
"What book inspired you to become an author?"
None of them. 🙃 I played video games and watched anime, and THAT was what inspired me to create *stories*. But a single computer-illiterate teenage girl didn't know how to turn her stories into anime or video games, so books it was.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to anyone who cares about me. People who talk to me, buy my books, leave reviews, even if you just give likes on my posts. I want to keep writing books and bringing joy to people, and it's nice when I feel like it's worthwhile.
I feel like I've lost touch with you, my writer friends. Please, introduce me to your MCs as if I have never seen them. Post pics/art, if you have them!
If anyone EVER comes up with some crack pairing of my characters that I never intended, and then you write a fucking FANFIC about it...
YOU BETTER FUCKING SHARE IT WITH ME. I WANT TO READ IT AAAALLLLL.
If you don't mind, I'm just gonna post like Twitter is fine, okay? I still want to post my vsses and talk about my fantasy world and yap about my characters. Y'all okay with that? Okay, cool.
Authors right now are too obsessed with writing conventional, "safe" books for the lowest common denominator. Give me your weird, your incredibly grimdark, your intellectual, your queer, your chonkers of books. And hey, they can be all that AND cozy, too
You should be getting *something* out of writing. Whether it's fun, catharsis, or a sense of stability in a routine. If writing brings you nothing and you dread it/hate it, then quit. Life is too short to do something you hate. Go find a hobby you actually enjoy
Some writers act like they're not allowed to use certain punctuation marks. Some of you act like a semicolon is a viper and exclamation points are scorpions. Some of you even tell others not to use these. Writers, you have a whole-ass tool box. Use what helps ✨you✨
Whether you're in SPFBO or not, if you're an author who has hired a human artist to create your cover, this topic is for you. Let's celebrate our artists! Post your cover, tag/mention your artist, and tell me something you love about their artwork 🫶💕
I rarely post non-writing stuff, but, I just gotta get this off my chest.
I'm depressed right now.
That's it. It's nothing compared to the chronic clinical depression a lot of people are going through. I'm just... feeling down rn. That's it. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
Some writers fantasize about their characters kissing or having sex. Some think about them killing dragons or sailing the high seas. Me? Right now, in my head, they're playing card games, eating zucchini, and dancing to the hurdy-gurdy.
