Tomorrow is the 100 year anniversary of the discovery of insulin. In 1921, insulin’s discoverers sold its patent for $1 so insulin would be affordable to all. Today, a single vial of insulin that lasts me about a week is priced at $300+, only in the United States.

Losing weight as a Type 1 can feel and seem absolutely impossible. BUT, I’ve managed to lose 15 pounds since November and have cut my insulin needs in half due to reducing my insulin resistance. Feeling proud and just wanted to share. Happy Saturday!!!!

Eli Lilly’s $35 insulin copay coupon program is not a “Price cap.” It’s not any kind of “cap,” as it’s 100% voluntary. My Lilly insulin is still priced at $2,267.99. Stop trusting Phrma to do the right thing when they’ve proven they will lie and kill us for profit

A vial of insulin shouldn’t cost more than an Xbox.

I’ll stop demonizing drug companies when their executives stop behaving like demons. My insulin is priced at $300/vial for me to survive a week, every week, for the rest of my life. Cost of production? $3-$6. When you price-fix basic insulin, you deserve the criticism you get.

I’ve been on THE SAME INSULIN since my dx at age 14. I’m 37 now, the insulin is identical, but the price is 1200% more a vial. It BLOWS MY MIND that some justify this blatant price gouging w “relearn your disease & risk your life with obsolete insulin you’ve never been prescribed

THE. LEGISLATION. DOES. NOT. LOWER. THE. PRICE. OF. INSULIN. It’s a copay cap for the insured only. Americans are dying for corporate greed and you’re lying to boost your “accomplishments.” Do better. Be better.

House Dems will pass legislation today that cuts the price of insulin from approximately $4000 a year to $35 per month.

We. Fucking. Did. This!! Our nonstop advocacy made Lilly, Novo, and Sanofi FINALLY lower the PRICE of insulin. It’s still priced 3x too high. But Patients don’t get many victories over Phrma, so let’s celebrate this one while continuing our fight to ensure insulin for ALL.

@breslyncomp At my fave bar in my 20s, they had a fountain drink dispenser where all sodas ran through the same hose. All the bartenders knew I was diabetic so when I’d order a diet soda they’d run water through the hose to make sure no sugar was mixed in! 🥰🫶

US insulin prices should be capped at $20/vial, at most, like every other country. That would still give Phrma a 300% profit margin per vial, rather than the 5,900% profit per vial they currently have. Insulin price caps save lives. Lives are more important than profits

Jesus would have provided free insulin to those who need it. Jesus would NOT leave the uninsured to pay $300/vial for insulin.

Jesus would’ve voted to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month.

Flashback to 1997 when I would bump my blood sugar up to 500+ so I wouldn’t go low in class and everyone wondered why I was in DKA every six months. Get fucked with this take.

Every day telling me, “just change your diet and you won’t need insulin.” TYPE 1 DIABETES IS AUTOIMMUME AND INCURABLE. (Also all humans need insulin to live) #AbledsAreWeird

Im told one of the victims of the Aurora shooting yesterday was the father of a Type 1 child. He was the sole income and source of health insurance for his fam. The pain I feel for this family is indescribable, and worrying how to keep your child alive in the wake of this is evil

@page88 I’m Type 1 and rapid-cycling bipolar. Without insulin, I die a certain, painful death in 48-72 hours. Unless I have insulin, I won’t be alive to fight for my psych meds. Also my psych meds have gone down in price over the years. My insulin is unchanged and the price is up 1200%

Y’all. I just picked up my test strips from the pharmacy. Insurance limited me to TWO tests per day, not 5 like my Dr thought. I have to do a prior authorization to even get 5 per day.

My health insurance company has decided that I, an insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetic, only need to test my blood sugar 5 times a day, down from the 6 they previously “allowed” Note to reader: if I only knew my blood sugar at 5 points throughout the day, I’d be dead.

All human beings need insulin to live. Non-Type 1 diabetics’ bodies make it for free, and Type 1 diabetics can’t produce any on our own. W/o insulin, your cells can’t get energy from ur food & you starve to death through ketoacidosis. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Type 1 diabetes is unavoidable. Type 1 diabetes is incurable. Nothing I did or didn’t do caused me to develop insulin-dependent diabetes at 14 years old. Nothing I do now will cure it or my need for exogenous insulin to survive. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

American healthcare: I had a mammogram & an ultrasound. Suspicious complex cyst so I need a biopsy. Dr offered to perform same-day biopsy but my health insurance wouldn’t allow it, requiring pre-approval. Now I get to spend the next month wondering if I have breast cancer 🇺🇸

Insulin is necessary for every human, diabetic or not, to stay alive. Affordable insulin is a human right for those whose bodies can’t produce insulin (Type 1, LADA) or those whose bodies dont use it properly (Type 2). Denying insulin is equivalent to denying oxygen. It’s murder
