We are in a full out climate crisis.
I urge the City of Portland to do the right thing and deny Zenith Energy's application for a land use compatibility statement for their crude oil terminal in NW PDX
The catastrophic risks of approving this permit cannot be understated

$700k in real estate money to defeat Jo Ann Hardesty; $1.2 million from “People for Portland” to overturn the will of the voters. We can either have a democracy or we can have our Oregon elections bought by a small & powerful band of interest groups. We cannot have both.

We did it! After a grueling 12-hour special session, we won: eviction protections, rental assistance, Afghan refugee supports, drought/climate disaster relief for farmers, illegal cannabis enforcement, and gun violence prevention funds... And now to sleep!
I'm deeply troubled by this news and I am worried about our neighbors living outside in the bitter February cold. As OPB points out: "Multnomah County’s public warming shelters are currently closed. And the # of shelter beds available for unhoused Portlanders remains inadequate."
Portland’s newest city commissioner, Rene Gonzalez, has ordered Portland Street Response to stop distributing tents to people sleeping outside as a chilly forecast looms on the horizon. By

I am so sad and angry. My heart goes out to Sarah’s family and community. This is the 3rd death on this stretch of inner Powell in the past year. We as a state and city must fund safety improvements and jurisdictional transfer so no one else has to die or be injured. 💔
The victim of today’s collision was Sarah Pliner, an accomplished and well-known Portland chef who owned Aviary, an award-winning restaurant on NE Alberta that closed in April 2020.
“She was so talented… a one-of-a-kind person,” shared a friend.

The City of Portland will be denying Zenith's permit to expand oil trains through our city. First and foremost, I want to thank local activists and community members. For the past year our office received countless calls and emails demanding we take a strong stance on this issue.

We are now one step closer to implementing universal healthcare in Oregon with the passage of SB1089, now on its way to the Governor's office to be signed into law. Proud to be a sponsor & to fight for the better world I know is possible.
As I told
@NigelJaquiss
“Tolling working Oregonians without a plan to provide affordable alternatives to driving is regressive” says Rep Khanh Pham. “Oregonians would greatly benefit from investments in safer streets for walking, biking, & public transit"
Highways are fossil fuel infrastructure & we need to be thoughtful about stewarding our public dollars, this is infrastructure for the next 100 years. We want to think about the legacy for future generations, in terms of climate and financial debt.
Students from Kellogg Middle School in my district walked out of their classrooms today, reading the names of the children murdered in Uvalde and chanting "Whose schools? Our schools!" and "What do we want? Gun laws!" and “Hey, hey, NRA how many kids have you killed today?”
Eight people died in traffic crashes in Portland in the past seven days and officials say "we simply don't have the money" to make our streets safer, while billions are funneled into freeways. We can and must do better - that is my commitment.
With a more rightsized approach to making the I-5 bridge safer, and a robust strategy to incentivize transit uptake, Oregon can invest the money saved into other needed transportation projects.
After standing for 2.5 hours, My back hurt, and I had to leave, but I knew more people were coming in shifts. I thought about the thousands of people who are coming, some for the first time like me, others perhaps for their 55th night in a row.

I know Portlanders are scared and frustrated right now, I am too. In times of fear and economic struggle some politicians will try to sell you slogans without substance. I want everyone to think critically about what this election means about who we are as a city.
