This is almost identical to what Starmer has previously said, so this is no accident. Just days after the party had a senior Orangeman elected as a councillor, the leadership seem happy to alienate Irish members and voters. It would be good if @labourirish spoke up

It's a year since my book on London and the miners' strike came out. It's got some really generous reviews in that time, which I've been really pleased with. For the next week, until 7 May, you can get 30% of a copy with code BAU30 on the Routledge site:

The level of insecure work in universities is a disgrace. Read our most recent report about Glasgow university, get inolved locally (contact details in the report), join UCU if you aren't already a member () and vote Yes in the strike ballot.

I enjoyed reading and writing about Beynon and Hudson's new book on the Durham and South Wales coalfields. Particularly valuable, I think, is the second half of the book which lays out the consequences of pits closures and the inadequacy of various attempts at 'regeneration'

Two new books on the Miners’ Strike reveal the solidarities that existed across the divides of today’s ‘culture war’ – and the ongoing effects of the defeat on the communities at the heart of it.

Reading archives of letters to trade unions during strikes is v. reminiscent of twitter. This during the 1979 road haulage dispute. I particularly liked the letter apparently from a 10 yr old: 'You are all daft. Hate you all... p.s. Please write back you didn't write back before'

The selections for Labour candidates needs to be more democratic and we should end NEC impositions of candidates. Local Party members should select their candidates for every election.
