Creative Technologist, Multidisciplinary Artist, & Professional Problem Solver. If it can be designed, I can learn it & do it. Proud nonbinary nerd. (they/them)
Are you ready for some making, mayhem, and general madness?! My 3D printed slab moulds video is here and it is ripe with sweet juicy knowledge! I didn't spend a year on this technique for nothing. 😉 Check it out and share it with your friends!
I am thrilled to finally introduce the Clean Air Necklace; a brilliant blend of modular design, 3D printing, electronics and live data visualisation. It also looks *incredibly cool*, and you can see the whole process of how it was made here:
This is your regular reminder that you can be fierce, femme, fabulous and ALSO be a powerhouse maker, artist, inventor, scientist or engineer.
Nobody said STEAM has to be boring, hard, or overtly masculine. I'm making space for the soft colourful glass ceiling breakers. 😎
It has been weeks in the making, but the ceramic Hex Vase made with 3D printed forms is finished! Behold the whole process from start to finish! 😊
I definitely learned a lot from the experiment and look forward to streamlining the process. All in all though, a success! 💪🏻
This vase started life as a CAD design, became a 3D print & inspired me to try & create the most complex press mold imaginable. 3D printing and ceramics combined beautifully in the end to create the gorgeous stoneware vase you see here.
This is NOT slip cast ceramics!
Okaaay I guess I've teased long enough. 😉 He's done, and he looks fabulous, and most of you had no clue what I was working on until the very last update.
Yes, I have made my very own (probably life sized) Egg Friend.
Introducing Terrako from Legend of Zelda: Age of Calamity!
As much as it is abjectly terrifying to do this...there are some really important things I'd like to share with all of you, if you can spare three minutes for me. I'd honestly, genuinely appreciate it.
It finally doesn't look like a Death Star any more. 😂
Presenting my fully functional, life size Dynamax Ball from Pokémon Sword! This will go perfectly with my Klara cosplay which will be making an appearance at
@DragonCon
. 😉
Soooo happy it's done. 😍😍😍
It seems I have finally gotten to add to my collection of High Femme 3D Printed Fashion and remind y'all once more that I can be very ✨glamourous✨.
The best part? It's all the same model, altered into three different variations before slicing and printing.
**Thread!**
HAY YOUSE GUYS LOOK AT THIS 😍
It's just yours truly on the cover of
@reinventedmag
. 🤩 I'm so incredibly honoured and thrilled to get to be the feature for this issue, especially knowing how this will go on to be seen by thousands of young people.
Power tools are a LOT of fun, but safety is important. Safety advice often feels generic or aimed towards men/butch folk, so I thought I'd put together some stuff that'd be helpful for Femmes using Power Tools. :)
(Obviously this isn't an exhaustive list, just a start!)
I love showing off what this prop can really do. 🤩
Not only does the Dynamax Ball light up, but it's a functional shoulder bag as well! The button releases the latching mechanism, allowing me to store stuff inside, like the Pokéball remote. 😉
Yes, I thought of everything! 😁
Yea, I'm super late to this but I just discovered
@zackfreedman
's Gridfinity system and dear GOD the dopamine hit is real.
It's almost like he understands perfectly how my ridiculous brain works and invented an organisation system exclusively to satisfy my needs. 🤔 Almost.
Totally not the tweet I want to be making, but unfortunately luck has not been on my side lately. 😥 I had a cycling accident (another cyclist collided into me) and have come away with a compound fracture in my leg and need surgery. 😭 Its been a really tough 20 hours or so.
This really shouldn't need saying, but it seems it does, so I'll say it.
I'm LGBTQ. I'm not constantly shouting about it, but I'm not ashamed either. It's who I am.
It is not 'inappropriate' for me to mention it in posts. It is not 'advertising my sexuality'. It's being myself.
This post has been a LONG time coming, but I am excited to announce
I'm the new inventor and designer in the Interactive Architecture team at Apple! 🤩
I am so excited to get to shape and innovate future products that'll reach the hands of millions of people. Seriously excited.
What can I say? I'm most in my element in a workshop, sandwiched between a 3D printer, tons of tools, and a giant foam and resin T-Rex. 😎 I'm so glad I got to escape London for a day to work on some things with
@RuthAmos
!
I think I've finally got the final design for my LED necklace enclosure! In the end the magnets simply did not provide a strong enough hold, since I didn't want to do countersunk. I decided to try dovetail joins instead and was amazed how well it worked!
I am having SO MUCH FUN getting to dive into using 3D printed molds for slab made ceramics thanks to my
@ace__london
grant. 😍 This new mold design is an absolute keeper, thanks to adapting it to accommodate the twists of this vase. This was the first pull and I'm so in love! 😍
Welcome to the brand new GFA creative space! It's taken time to get set up, but my workspace has gone from being wildly inefficient to being well put together with smart storage! I can already feel a huge difference, and being in the room is so much more enjoyable. ☺️
Wait a minute, where did Geeky Faye Art go?? Don't worry y'all, I'm still here! It's just time for a change. 😉
I am thrilled to introduce myself fresh once more: I am Allie Katz; creative technologist, multidisciplinary artist and now Katz Creates!
Making the Hex Mug V3! You can see what the 3D printed mold looks like and how far it's come from the original 3D printed forms I used for the Hex Vase.
This method is SO MUCH faster and more efficient! I hope this one is The One. ✨
First there were tools... Then there were components. 😈 Such tasty
@Raspberry_Pi
, much
@pimoroni
, wow!
There's still a few bits & bobs missing, but this little pile of components is VERY exciting. Soon I can start slotting things together and see if I can't bring them alive...
Hey, I finally remembered to upload and share another printable design! Is it the apocalypse?! 🤣
After numerous iterations, I've FINALLY polished my 3D printable camera lens mounted teleprompter design, and I LOVE IT.
I like to think of this as the four stages of custom LED matrix testing. 😂
I mean, there's obviously many ways to do it. But since this is new to me, I wanted to test as I was going, to make sure I was connecting everything right!
I think I got it right. 😎 Stay tuned.
3D Printing Prototyping Tip!
If you're testing things like tolerance, the piece is large, & doesn't need to be strong, get rid of those solid layers and print it as infill! If you turn up the percentage you'll have enough structure while saving you a ton of time and material!👍🏻
I've been absolutely bursting to share this amazing news with you, and the day has finally come!
You can find me in the 2022

Guess who's finally getting around to upgrading to the
@E3DOnline
Revo??
I am so behind on this, and broken leg + mobility issues means I'm doing it in the kitchen, but it's finally time to get the (still) new Revo Six on my
@Prusa3D
MK3S!
It's half past midnight, but I've FINALLY made it home. This discharge experience has been unnecessarily harrowing, and I am quite shattered by the whole thing, both mentally and physically. Please excuse me if I take a few days to back to semi-normal. 💖
Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, & Blessed Yule from this Jew posing in front of a Christmas tree. 🤣
I know this month can be tough for lots of folk, so I want to send love to everyone, not just those having a good time. 💖 It's okay to not enjoy this time of year too.
I'm so happy to announce that I've finally completed the build guide for BMOctoprint, meaning you can now make your own loveable 3D printing friend! I honestly cannot imagine my life without him. 😍
Now live on
@instructables
!
I have a lot of filament.
I realised recently that my previous singular filament shelf was not cutting it. What else could be the solution but ANOTHER shelf??
This is almost entirely PLA with a few spools of PETG mixed in! Specialty filament is bagged up and stored separately.
Making awesome things for your friends is great, but never letting them live down a joke is better. 😂 I'm so sorry
@steve_moonshine
, but it simply had to be done. 😘
Don't worry, I'm not all mean, Steve is now the proud owner of this delightful little light up name tag. 🥰
Happy to report SURGERY FINALLY HAPPENED!! 💖 Wednesday morning I went in and in the afternoon I came out full of metal and with a big numb leg. 🤣 Things are coming back today, and I'm really forward to being able to move things again!!
Sadly, I am coming up on a week since the accident & I am still waiting for surgery, still stuck in medical limbo & still being held in a ward I very much do not belong in (I am the youngest here by 35 years at least...)
The NHS is truly struggling and I'm feeling it hard.
I've held back on making a
#PrideMonth
post, but it feels important to be visible, proud, and defiant.

3D printers are definitely dangerous, especially when user vigilance is lax; like putting your face right down by the print bed to look at the nozzle while things are moving. 🤦 Learn from my mistake, sprung steel build plates are sharp and faces are soft.
3D printing + ceramics for the win! I had the idea to create a tiny hand held stamp with changeable heads, so of course I threw something together in an evening, tried a few prototypes, and whacked together a pretty cool plate in an hour or two. 👌🏻
Art + tech = great combo.
Brain: We're actually going out today. We need a nice mask. Now.
Me: Mmm, okay!
A range of skills really is a great thing to have. 😉 Whipped myself up this new mask today before heading into public *gasp* with this incredible velvet accented hounds tooth fabric. Not too bad.
Can you make light pipes from cheap fishing line instead of expensive fibre optics?.... Maybe yes!
I'm working on another set of experiments to see how well I can get fishing line to work like fibre optics because for what I have in mind.... I'm going to need a LOT of them. 😂
I'm sorry, what now?? 😳 Please excuse me while I have a teeny little fangirl moment over here.
No, seriously, it's cool, no big deal, I'm fine, it's fine, this is all totally normal.
*screams into a pillow for 30 minutes*
Did I accidentally create 3D printing Fordite?? 🤔
I was reticent to mix up colours based on the fear that they would turn into sad sludge, but that hasn't been the case at all! While my process did blend up the colour, I'm amazed at how they came out. 🤩 That polish too!
Chill macro soldering tiny
@sparkfun
Lilypad LEDs to herald in the first working day of the new year! ☺️
Yes, I like doing tiny work. Yes, I am weird. 😂 I also have good fine motor skills. It's so satisfying! 🤩
Who could have thought that my wish for a 3D printer would come true so quickly?! If you can't tell by my face, I was ecstatic when the postman dropped this on my doorstep. It's such an honour for my channel to have the support of
@Creality3dprint
and
@RealSexyCyborg
.
Argh! How is it already July 11th?! It seems I have completely lost track of time and now tomorrow is my birthday. 🤦What I'd really like for my birthday though is to hear from you! I'd love to know how you found me and why you follow me.
Making my six sided die box from slab to bisque ready in 90 seconds! It's hard to capture the entire process of something, but I did my best since I think it's a great process to see in action!
Yes, it is a functional box as well! The lid is easily lifted from the side.
What else do you do with your HEAPS OF PLASTIC SCRAP?! Turn it into something else, that's what. ☺️
Since so much of this is experimenting, it's all a bit of a ✨process✨ and I'm very much still working it out! That said, this is kinda the first part of the process!
Back in September I applied for an grant through
@ace_national
to pursue exploration of ceramics techniques using technology like CNC machining and 3D printing. As of today its official; my grant funding was approved!! 😍
Keep your eyes peeled for some amazing stuff next year!!
B-b-b-boosted!
Feeling very grateful to the NHS and volunteers for getting jabs into arms so efficiently, as well as the opportunity to get it in the first place.
If you have the privilege of getting vaccinated, please do. 💖
Need a thing? Make a thing!
Was reorganising my bathroom and realised I needed a new toothbrush holder that didn't let water sit at the bottom and get gross. But the space was also rather slim. I needed something JUST right.
So of course I made it!
Don't worry, BMO is coming back and this time with proper documentation! 😂 I'm working on putting together a thorough tutorial for making your own BMO, and this was an important step! Or, steps, as it were. I think y'all are going to love the final result!
Learning how to walk again. In the cold. Not something on my to do list for 2022. 🤦
6 week check up went well, & I am allowed to walk again. Should feel like a big win, but somehow feels like a step backwards. 🙃 Turns out it's incredibly difficult. I've got a long road ahead.
For those of you wondering what's so hecken amazing about a tutorial to 3D print dots; did you know that not only is there more than one type of braille, but braille size requirements are quite strict? Dot diameter, dot height, even interdot spacing is super important!
Happy

Accessibility is something that's incredibly important to me, so in honour of Louis Braille's birthday, I'm teaching all y'all how to make awesome 3D printed braille **on an FDM printer**!! Full in depth tutorial right here!
What can you make when you cast off the shackles of what should be for what could be?
This vase represents something marvelous; a blending of fabrication technology & hand built techniques to create something unique. 3D printing gave me the ability to create something beyond me.
Even though it is for the best, it is a sad day as I say goodbye to my beloved (but borked and frustration inducing)
@Prusa3D
MK3S to send it in for repair. I am glad that it will get the help it needs, but I am sad to let it go. 😭 (Please enjoy my silly faces in the meantime.)
Since nobody seems to fathom my height, I have provided a
@mattgrayyes
for additional reference.
(You may recall a photo w/
@hannahmakes
where I looked like a giant.)
In fact, I am approx 0.75 Matts, as opposed to 1.5 Hannahs.
Height is weird. But
@mattgrayyes
is super cool!
#3DPrinting
but make it fashion.
Super excited to finally show off my version of
@DasMia3
's amazing Bag-o-ment design, turning an empty

spool into a handbag. I couldn't help myself; I had to give it a proper fashion show. (Turns out I clean up okay!)
It’s come to my attention that I’ve recently got a bunch of cool, new followers, & it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a proper introduction, so…
Welcome to the Geeky Faye Art intro thread! Want to know a little more about me? Read on!

Cultivate love in your life of all forms. Cherish your family. Adore your friends. Support your partners. Most of all, find love for YOURSELF.
Be the you that makes you feel good, that makes you into someone you can love. That's the best love.
Happy Valentine's Day. 💖
The most magical thing happened today: I got to finally meet
@hannahmakes
IN THE MEAT SPACE. 🤩 It was incredible. We kvetched, pulled apart a Japanese appliance, and she taught me how to solder. I am over the moon.
(Also yes, there is a slight height difference 🤣)
May have accidentally made a gif of myself while messing around with my new Sigma 30mm prime lens today, and I definitely thought that some of you lot might appreciate my goofy grin after this really rough week. ❤️
You thought I'd reached my final form in LED diffusion techniques?! Think again! 🤣 Now I am complete!
(I fully expect I will continue to test, try and experiment with other techniques, but this is the one I'm using for this project! I don't need any more tips, thanks!)
✨Meet BMOctoprint!✨
I'm still working on the latest build video for this project (check out the first two on my YouTube channel to get caught up!) but I couldn't resist giving a little teaser of the functionality, including these AMAZING custom animations by
@Tomasisstrange
!
Save me from the heatwave, 3D printing! 😱
Yes, I am super lucky to have any air conditioner at all. 😅 But it was hard to use without some kind of window adapter. As they say.... Need a thing, make a thing!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be huddled in front of the cold air. 🫠
This 100% falls under the category of happy accidents I think! I didn't set out intending to create a geometric pot like this, but instead sort of just found myself trimming hard edges into an otherwise too thickly thrown pot. 😅 Good save on my part I think.
Have you seen how cool environmental awareness can be yet? 🤩 Clean air never looked this good!
(I'm also only 1 subscriber away from 3000! Help push me over the edge! 💖)
I love y'all but I'm not sure how much tweeting/posting I'll be doing as I'm in a lot of pain and obviously not able to work right now. 😢 That said, I might get really bored and want company! Either way, I'm definitely feeling pretty sorry for myself right now. 😭
Turns out I CAN get a
#3DPrinter
working again!
I managed to get my
@ff3dprinters
functional again, installed the larger print bed, and was able to create
@theREALwelbot
's amazing Gary model with it! I didn't have any pink, so Gary got a
#Pride
shell instead (and glow eyes).
Oh, the joys of doing a multi colour print without an MMU. 🤣 Yes, I'm aware I did this to myself. But the results were totally worth all the running back and forth!
Presenting the first prototypes of my Hex Mugs! Using the design and shape of my Hex Vase, I developed some new 3D printed forms to make smaller, faster versions that I could slap a handle onto!
I'm hoping I can develop and make a limited run of these to sell, so stay tuned! 😊
It's rather weird to think about, but in spite of what the join date says here, I started
@GeekyFayeArt
two years ago. As of today, not only do I have the jazzy number of 9696 followers, but I'm only a couple hundred away from 10K. 😳 Y'all are amazing!
I...honestly cannot believe the overwhelmingly positive response that this has received. I was optimistic, but the outpouring of support has far exceeded what I could have hoped for.
I cannot thank you all enough. Truly, from the bottom of my weary little heart. 💖
As much as it is abjectly terrifying to do this...there are some really important things I'd like to share with all of you, if you can spare three minutes for me. I'd honestly, genuinely appreciate it.
Made my first attempt at printing polycarbonate, and it totally came off without a hitch! (Well, except for the fact that I printed the wrong pieces, but that's my fault. 😂)
Using
@Polymaker_3D
PC Max was an absolute dream and gave me no issues, even without an enclosure. 😎
If you thought the only thing I'd get from a 0.1mm nozzle was a clog, then you might need to think again. 😉
Behold; my first ever prints with the
@kaika_tecdia
0.1mm nozzle. I altered a 0.25mm profile to get going, but besides speed, I haven't changed much.
@Cathrinmachin
Bless all the people telling you to ignore or block or that they're just jealous... Existing on the Internet as a woman means you get this and it never gets any easier. Regardless of how you deal with it, it hurts.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I'm sorry for all of us.
This.... This is the beginning of something WONDERFUL. 😉 Just you wait and see what
@pimoroni
and I are cooking up.... I think you're going to like it.
Stay tuned.... 😈
Hey y'all. I'm always hesitant to be publicly vulnerable, but it feels like the season to be honest with each other more. So here goes.
I am *struggling* right now to keep things going here.
I hate feeling this way and being in this position. But I could use some help.
🧵1/x
My first time in a restaurant post accident! 😭💖 I love this local Colombian-Filipino place so much, and they're being so sweet and accommodating of my needs! It's so nice to feel a bit more human again!
I don't know about y'all, but I think it's a good day for a bit of Python and Raspberry Pi tinkering. 😎 Let's finally bring BMOctoprint to life!
*or start anyway, this'll take more than an afternoon lol
This is the face of someone who is on their third bout re-flashing their Raspberry Pi OS. 🤣 I've gotten quite far in my learning my way around Linux/Raspberry Pi/Python, but sometimes you gotta wipe it all and start all over again.
I promise to close up your backside soon, BMO.
Yea, I like to wear dresses and high heels some times. It takes nothing away from my talents, my intelligence, or my capabilities. Remember that.

Why yes, I am a handsome sod in my new photos, why do you ask? :D (Also yes, I DO subscribe to the Dolly Parton School of Hair belief, in case you were wondering.)
It's taken me AGES but I've finally uploaded a new design for download! My little custom M6 nozzle box that I made for my workspace refurb is up and free to download if you want a snazzy little place to store your nozzles. :)
9 months ago I broke my leg. My world felt shattered, but I was determined to come back better than ever.
I wanted to create something from it, so I endeavored on this ambitious project. I was warned of the likelihood of failure.
Little did they know, I don't give up, ever. 😉
Oh hey, there I am! ✨
I don't often get to stretch my fine art skills any more, so it feels really good to take a break from all the technology and break out the traditional media. This self portrait was done in pastel pencils and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. 😊
Inspired by
@bekathwia
, I went to make myself a foot pedal hands free camera trigger, and discovered a no solder method that works with my old Fujifilm camera! 🤩 Mega score!
Audio jack adapters absolutely save the day here, along with a keyboard foot pedal! 👌🏻
