@pjayevans I’m old enough to remember *checks notes* a month ago when a mob erected a gallows, broke into the Capitol with handcuffs, guns, and pepper spray, shouted “where’s Pence,” and carved “murder the media” into the wall. + killed a cop. Doubt cast on AOC is transparent and insane.

Multiply this by a LOT, and you’ll start to get a sense of how we are absolutely DESTROYING CHILDREN FOR NO FUCKING REASON. We are not “back to normal,” we are in denial on a massive scale and too many are paying the price. Including, again, literal children. Fuck this.

Fear of covid is not “anxiety” for high risk people, @NPR , it is reality. It is “following the science.” It is normal and healthy to avoid things that can kill you or make you more disabled. (Written from bed, where I spend 90% of my time since long covid ruined me.)

Covid can cause you to BECOME immunocompromised, too. A lot of people who think they’re in the “safe” group should really be listening to the warnings they’re ignoring.

I don't think people understand that anybody could be immunocompromised and not know it. It can be anyone you know or anyone you pass by or you, yourself. You just don't know.

@TaraCopp @USNationalGuard @7NewsDC But is it a “mild” case of “all the bus drivers got covid?” A “mild” case of “society can’t function because we’re letting a pandemic rage for some reason”? 🙃🙃🙃

@leighton9000 Long covid is common and will fuck you up, so yes I am serious about masking. Take 20 minutes and listen to this. Pulitzer Prize winning science journalist Ed Yong says he guarantees you already know someone suffering from it.

@HanThompsonxo I’m curious what happened next? My impression is that most institutions (if not individuals) don’t care at ALL. Like is there even a policy that says “pls don’t come here with covid?” Are we at “don’t ask, don’t tell”?

@iseeuliars I would really love to hear some honest answers to this question. What specific shrug from Biden or “just the damaged people” from Walensky was the turning point? Did you notice we stopped getting case data? If you’re generally skeptical of “the media” why is this different?

@Missmaina__ For anyone experiencing new fatigue that does not make sense based on your activity levels: this is the best place to start. And I’m so sorry.

@gpanger @Dakota_150 Ed Yong says it’s very common for athletes to get LC in this excellent NPR story. I have zero basis for saying this, but I wonder if it’s bc athletes have more capillaries and covid attacks blood vessels.

@__philipn__ (The CDC did some bad stuff in the 80s too, there’s a reason ACT UP! hung a banner that said “CDC Kills” on their headquarters. But 2023 CDC dog is accurate.)

@amandalhu This sounds like the first year or so of my ME/CFS. I’d had mono and it felt like it kept coming back after activity. Eventually it sorta settled into PEM.

This might be the worst part of all of this. We’re disabling children with a shrug. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Once again: covid can change yr body so you can no longer do the things you need and want to do like have job, hang out w/ your loved ones, or shower standing up. Even if you’re healthy now. I’ll never understand how ppl can brush off warnings from the canaries in the coal mine.

I think this is a big part of why people don’t recognize what a threat SARS-Cov-2 is to themselves, to those they love, to all that they cherish.

@ramsincanon @fivefifths Yes! Also as Robin DiAngelo's new book White Fragility describes, white people are (incorrectly) assumed to be "free" of race. That's something other groups have, we're the default setting. So those euphemisms are victim blame-ie, too.

@SalvMattera @RealGayArbys Thanks for sharing this! We need to crack the code of how to get people to listen before they become sick themselves if we want to stop this thing. I wish I knew the answer. I think people don’t like to consider their own vulnerability.

@chronicallybeee I recently learned that HIV+ people are at 4x higher risk for long covid. 😬 We are so deep into our “fucking around” era. Finding out is gonna be brutal.

I want all of my social media to stay up forever. If anyone wonders about me after I’m gone they can see I spent my last years / months doing whatever I could to shift things to a less genocidal reality.

@iseeuliars Yep!!!!!!!!!! That’s part of what was so remarkable about this recent story on WBEZ: they just talked about how everyone’s at risk for long covid! Usually it’s “you’ll be fine but those other people won’t.” BEZ assumed we are part of the audience.

@RealGayArbys At least everything is normal when it comes to air travel 😬. Just a mild, normal 5,000 secretly sick pilots flying planes.

@ziqqix Does no one remember the massive pandemic? Do you think maybe THAT still circulating virus could answer some of this confusion? It damages brain function, the immmune system, and blood vessels, and it still circulating at high levels. This confusion is really something y’all.
