Everybody yelling at this take? My favorite food as a child was BROCCOLI. Kids do not just want dino nuggets.
However I was a nightmare at the dinner table because everything "tasted like burning". I was an ADULT before I discovered that was anaphylaxis. I am allergic to pepper.
Stop forcing your children to eat food they don’t like. You don’t eat food you don’t like. I will never forget the nights that I spent sitting at the table, crying, throwing up and being forced to eat food I didn’t like. It’s so common we joke about it, but it’s not okay.
I believe it’s possible to live your life in such a way that the police are not a threat to you.
It’s called having agency and making reasonable life choices.
I see we are doing "how are you" discourse again.
As an ND person, may I introduce you to "I'm hanging in there." That is social script for "I am not OK, I do not want to talk about it."
They will probably say "I hear you." And they do. You have shared a moment of exhaustion.
I see some folks missing something about the impending disaster. I just saw someone ask the question "who is going to adopt all these babies they want to force people to have?"
Y'all... evangelicals want them. That's part of the grift.
I need to explain something about disability that it has become abundantly clear many of you don't know.
We do not all have paid help provided by the state or whatever. That is not a thing.
I have suspected for some time that at least some of this was malice. This one definitely is. This did not just happen. She mentions cut wires in replies.
@444molls
"She needs to learn to take care of herself" Ugh she was DOING THAT. She clearly knows how to budget. There's nothing to teach here besides that it's general-strike o'clock and SOMEBODY isn't going to the NICE nursing home.
@AITA_online
First things first, NTA. A+ non-ironic dad of the year right there.
My overthinky reaction: if Grandma can't forgive an unfortunately timed FART, what a horrible household this must be in which to have any medical anything.
LRT: Now I'm curious. What was your nemesis book in school? The one you never thought would end, that you would destroy utterly if you could? Mine was Heart of Darkness, the longest 97 pages in history. I don't care how good you think Apocalypse Now is, the source is racist crap.
Just thinking about all the years i survived the heat without ac.
A lot of my advice is unglamorous but here goes:
Don't try to "be productive" at the hottest times. Maintaining your internal temperature is what you are doing.
Ok apparently we gotta talk about "when laws sound stupid as hell, they're evil."
Bans on the occult are attempts at religious persecution.
The old "monster laws" like "a monster can't enter the state/county of X" are about disabled people.
Evangelical Christians want as many children as possible, to indoctrinate their way. This leads to political power and societal hegemony. Even better when they can get them away from people unlike themselves.
I am filled with Satanic Panic memories, having been a child/teen in that era, and everybody defending it right now? You're wrong. It was all such bullshit.
I think I'm starting to get a handle on where my head is at re: submarine.
We've been asked to practically celebrate covid deaths this whole time whenever someone was unvaccinated or even "unwell to begin with". And NOW everybody has to be the soul of mercy?
My Christian relatives are still shocked to this day that I left, and leaving is far from easy, or a one step process.
Barrett's whole assignment in this mess is to make sure her people have plenty of children to buy. It's clear as day.
If your kids really don't want to eat, more may be going on and if you get all authoritative "I AM THE PARENT" about it you might miss something important.
"Kids are manipulative."
Yes. Because they can't get anything for themselves in this world AT ALL. They HAVE to get someone to get or do things for them because they can't just pop over to the store.
Manipulation is the tool of those with absolutely no power of their own.
And the upbringing when you are anything other than perfect and white is not pretty. As a disabled person of parentage they had questions about, my church made it clear to me that heaven was for other people.
I am already so sick of hearing how expensive Biden's plan is. Remember last spring when they pretty much set $4 trillion on fire because the stock market was sad and Wells Fargo got money and you didn't?
And yes btw, some of my language choices today are extremely icky. I can't mince words, here. I really need to convey to you that these theoretical children aren't real people to the """"parents"""" in this scenario.
@Shaye61564262
This is A THING. The PUA community teaches not to tolerate disagreement so disagreeing on something minor like day/ time/ venue weeds these jerks out.
The number of people getting all nostalgic about their high school jobs over the rollback on child labor laws could not miss the point harder if they tried.
I liked my high school jobs too but I bussed tables on weekends. I did not work overnights at a meat packing plant.
I'm seeing constant "why didn't the carer pick up the food/drive this person etc. I get asked in public when I'm alone where my helper is, today.
Asshole, those are my FRIENDS. I am lucky and grateful to them. They are not assigned to me. They help if they want and I love them.
In my dad's household, I said I didn't like spicy and I liked raw veg. I was given whatever I wanted and I became a caterpillar munching my way through my grandpa's garden.
That seems like the way a balanced diet was achieved tbh. Just letting me freaking EAT.
Hey so one thing is coming to the forefront in all this. A lot of you seem to think that everyone who is disabled is on disability. That is not true at all, for multiple reasons.
To the roughly 4 billion people on here who need to hear this: a disease isn't endemic until the rate you find it in a population stabilizes. If you look at covid graphs, that is not what you will see.
@AITA_online
Oh I can feel a rant coming.
Most recipes on those websites are not in fact made by pro chefs AND IF THEY WERE IT WOULDN'T MATTER because the food is not for restaurant consumption. It's for your consumption. If you know you like red pepper with the other ingredients...
@DiannaLGunn
It was thanksgiving, he was bored. He knew damn well the car belonged to my friend, who had been driving, who begged him for three hours to run the plates. I was a passenger but he was halfheartedly trying to get us both for it. Really just trying to ruin our day, I think.
We are on our own, same as you. If we can't do something ourselves, maybe we have a friend who can help. And if not that, then you pay somebody. And if you can't, your friends aren't there, and you're refused service? Well, you're stuck.
@_ElizabethMay
The person-first language fans (they're all abled white women as far as I can tell) will drop out of the ceiling to yell at anybody who calls themselves a disabled person. It's CONSTANT but til twitter I didn't run into that level of ferocity.
I grew up between two households. So my diet as a child was, in mom's pepper laden household: pbj, apples, and filched raw veg. Very tiny bites of dinner. Just enough to say I still didn't like it and be excused functionally without it.
Very balanced.
@AITA_online
People who don't cook Thanksgiving dinner are unaware of a few things, LIKE NOBODY *BRINGS* THE TURKEY.
Not ever in Thanksgiving history have I heard of a turkey being transported. It's too heavy and big, and too hard to gauge when it's going to be done.
@ithayla
I owe her my happiness, to be honest. I have friends who are very minimalist who ask questions like "when is the last time you used that" of things that don't really have a use. Now I can just say that it sparks joy and I am left to my rock collections in peace.
What do we do if we can't get rides? Can't get grocery delivery or use Amazon? Mostly stay with family. There's a "caregiver murder" (a killing of a disabled person by a "loved one" about once a week. Look up Disability Day of Mourning to learn more. So, that's not always SAFE.
@AITA_online
Then put red pepper in it if you want to.
Also she's right that they DO skimp on salt, sugar, and fat to make it look healthier. It's an epidemic and I hate that for every recipe I try I have to figure out how much butter it should REALLY have.
We don't have as many options as people seem to think. Some cities have a transport service for disabled people. It costs money, sometimes a lot of money, and you have to schedule it way in advance. I don't use ours, having been cussed out both times I applied.
In light of Facebook changing their name, people are talking about how creepy their data practices are and are being told "You can just block trackers."
It is not that simple. Apparently it is time, again, to tell my facebook story.
I am very tired but my brain is very awake.
And I'm thinking that the whole THING with Time War demonstrated something about book marketing that I have long suspected...
The reliance on early buzz, arcs, and preorders is deeply flawed.
Hey, everybody who doesn't coherently remember the eighties. We need to talk. If you call the pink triangle "holocaust imagery", you're wrong, and you have homework. I hereby sentence you to reading up on the AIDS crisis.
Another thing I wish everybody knew: disabled people do not have any more support systems than anybody else. Often less.
Disability or illness acquisition reveals who really loves you. If you're not there yet, it might not be who you think.
And no, they're not going to adopt literally every child. Certainly not the ones whom anybody is watching over at all. An impoverished underclass who can't afford school or healthcare works for them too. They can multitask and y'all are exhausting.
It's a crime to feed the homeless in some cities. Border Patrol goes through the desert and destroys water caches. But now we must do everything we can as a society to save people who are in danger.
Shootings every day. There's still a plague. It is taking your life in your hands to go ANYWHERE. But your rent is twice as much and your grocery bill four times as much as it was three years ago so you must.
But don't joke about those who took unspeakable risk for nothing.
I'm sorry for discoursing but...
Her form is good. This is not the start of her "weight loss journey". I don't know what journey she's on, but this is not day one of it. And she's still fat. I think that's what people in the replies can't face.
I interrupt this program (a blind yelling thread, anyway) to talk about herbalism. Everybody's getting the memo that shit is dangerous, but having worked in comp med for like 15? years? Holy cats? I know people need to hear more than that because "they know what they're doing."
Everyone's like "i would take a few kids in" and i get it, but you realize you're being played? These children are stolen. The only acceptable thing to happen here is we give them back. Some of their parents have already been deported so you KNOW that's not the plan.
@DiannaLGunn
I've had worse and scarier experiences, and better ones, but my overarching point that there's nothing I could have been doing differently myself to get different results is most demonstrated by that story.
I cannot wish their probable fate on anyone at all. It's nightmarish.
But I don't think that's what anyone's doing. I think everyone's emotionally exhausted and aware that the rest of us could screw up 1/100000th of this much and be just as doomed.
Life is precious, or it isn't. I believe it is, always. But we've been encouraged to think otherwise. To be uncaring. It's been made clear that most of us can go straight to hell without passing go. But not them.
It's no wonder everyone is feeling A LOT rn, not all of it pretty.
The jerks who run my town had to be actively stopped from dropping a building on someone and it's moneymen's fault it even came to that but we must bestow the humanity on a billionaire who said safety is waste, which the wealthy have never bestowed on us.
@AITA_online
I'm reminded of a wedding I attended years ago. The couple: goths. My date: a goth. Me: goth. The wedding: not goth. So what I did NOT do was come looking like Morticia Addams. I at least wore a color, anyway. It's not cool to risk hogging spotlight at not-your-wedding.
Dear makers of packaged camping/convenience food: please be specific wrt "spices". People have allergies. If you list them, thank you! Next step, not putting the same ones in everything you sell: PEOPLE HAVE ALLERGIES!
Sincerely, allergic to pepper.
This take is getting pushback and so I'm gonna double down even tho I'm not OP.
It's a plant that will only grow in a narrow range of very specific habitats, and as such must be imported to most places. That we can take it for granted is frankly astonishing.
@redditships
50/50 split financial relationships always wind up abusive. I've never ever ever seen one partner or the other not take advantage of "the rules" at some point. And here we are.
@AITA_online
NTA (I mean, justifiably TA but you get me) however OP should have realized this was actually a beautiful way to break up with the dude. Who ABSOLUTELY needed breaking up with.
But additionally, I think his mom knew how this would go and planned it...
@POTUS
No. Everybody is hungry, tons of people are housing insecure, the pandemic rages on, and cops cannot solve any of these problems, and wouldn't if they could.
@punished_cait
Where she really screwed up is I agree, it's not white, but it's not NOT white enough. It looks like it WAS white and now somebody needs to get in there and scrub.
So many normal people were convinced that there were Satanic child abusing cults everywhere and then they'd send their kids to church to be abused.
And throw away everything made by Proctor and Gamble because they had a moon on their packaging and the moon is Satan I guess.
Lrt: pigeons are domesticated and how we treat them is messed up, actually.
"This city is drowning in air rats..."
Yeah no kidding. How do you think it would go if we just abandoned all the chickens one day?
Close windows and curtains in the day, open them at night.
Put ice in your pet's water dish. Possibly (carefully!) Also your fishtank.
Cats aren't supposed to pant. If yours is, get them to the coolest spot you can.
Anyway. I don't care if you're not on Facebook. It knows everything about you at all if you know even one fool. And that's dangerous. We shouldn't tolerate it. Facebook is past the point where just not using it can stop it. Something bigger than it needs to take it down.
The mistake I think people are making now is holding the right to a consistent set of morals that makes any damn sense but I promise you they do not care. They don't need it. They just need you afraid.
"Everybody get off facebook" is all very well and good but until LITERALLY everyone does, it won't be enough.
With or without algorithms, this thing knows absolutely everything you do and everywhere you go because the people you know tell it.
Sweet tea exists for a reason. If you get overheated you'll need the sugar. Lemonaide works too.
Jello counts as water. If you have kids or older folks who aren't drinking enough, could try that.
Bigolus Dickolas Wolfwood is obviously a spectacular hype man with an underrated skill with words, HOWEVER, I don't think the tweets could have done all this without several hundred of us going "ok but for real that book is feckin great."
@JennyErikson
I had compromised immunity as a child. Things that nearly killed me included pneumonia, chicken pox, and the flu. Covid would have done the trick beyond a doubt. You are suggesting that other peoples' lives are worth less than your convenience.
Call your friends. Yes with your actual voice. Check in on each other and make sure everything everybody's saying makes any kind of sense. Heatstroke sneaks up, and confusion is a bad sign.
@AITA_online
Also what is this 2 cloves of garlic nonsense everyone is doing. It either does not need garlic or it needs way more than that. 2 cloves is NEVER correct. Ahem.
Anyway she has yet to screw up a recipe. I know this because you def would have mentioned it. So...
Hey
@netflix
do you not understand how many of us don't watch a ton of television and are likely to just not notice that month going by? I've often thought I'm wasting money and should cancel, but if you're gonna do it for me...
Furthermore, a disease becoming endemic doesn't mean we stop doing anything about it, nor does it mean we will never successfully eradicate it.
Malaria is endemic a lot of warm places, where people do everything they can to kick its ass...
I'm gonna regret this, but takes like this are mad at the wrong people. It wasn't the writers who said "let's make a billion shows about superheroes". The studios decided to make shows about superheroes, and then hired people to make them. You do the work the commissioner wants.
@andizeisler
@kendallybrown
@unikunka
Ableism has changed flavor. When I was a kid: "you can do anything! You're totally normal DON'T YOU DARE WALK WITH A CANE YOU SLACKER" Now: be caught doodling on a napkin and be accused of faking your disability because everybody knows disabled people can't do things.
@AITA_online
This lady 500% knew that laughing over drinks in the kitchen didn't constitute binding holiday contractual obligation or whatever. But she wins either way; no turkey and she gets to say "janet" ruined Thanksgiving, or OP has to SOMEHOW lug a (now cold) turkey over.
@GeekyDad83
@redditships
@legaladvice_txt
I did deep tissue massage for years and have encountered several of these things. Everybody says what you're saying now: "You can't hurt me; don't worry about it." And they've been correct. This prof went full WWE.
LRT: "How can anybody rest that much after covid? We have jobs and lives and things that need us."
I know. I had those things. And now I don't. I say from the other end of having pushed myself too soon, that maybe it's better to lose the job you have than all other jobs forever.
Drink ANYTHING safe for human consumption. I know people are gonna yell at you if it's not water but if you're not a water person and you try to make yourself drink only water you will lose. Enough mountain dew is better than not enough water.
Plants grown in different soil, at different altitudes, in different levels of sunlight, from different strains, by different people, and then processed in different places, in different ways ARE DIFFERENT.
@POTUS
Sir, who are they working FOR? Everybody I know is absolutely desperate. I have longcovid and compromised immunity. I WAS a massage practitioner. I don't know what I am now, besides lucky to be alive at all. And that's a lot of us.
But I AM saying that there's a limited amount of buzz you can build when like 20 people on the planet have read a book. "You should read this. I really liked it. It comes out two months from now. HOPE YOU REMEMBER!"
There is no "know what you are doing" when it comes to anything poisonous and I am going to try to explain why.
TL;DR: you know how different strains of weed grown in different places by different people are different? THAT.
