This is incorrect. The mnemonic part is folk etymology. The names given are only applicable to Tamil Nadu. Origins go back to the Natyashastra of Bharata muni. Its history in Karnataka is also ancient & hoary. Also, the dancers shown in the pic are dancing Odissi

I know many migrants from Karnataka & Tamil Nadu who live in Mumbai. None of them speaks Marathi. They all speak Hindi with domestic helpers, shopkeepers, cab/auto drivers, dabbawallas. Opposition to Hindi in Karnataka & TN is purely political. Kerala has no issues with Hindi.

By applying same logic as Tamil, Sanskrit has 544 letters. Add the half nasal and it becomes 589 letters! For classical kannaDa we get 648 letters (18 vowels + 36 consonants multiplied by 18). For sankēti- we have 850! 👑 (25 vowels + 34consonants multiplied by 25)🤴

@a_srinidhi @arish_vr I just noticed a certain brahmin finickiness when it comes to eating - I shall not touch non veg, I shall not dine with non veg people etc. These are milder versions of untouchability. That's my take. In reality, I'm a sole vegetarian in a non veg family.

The name on the top in kannaDa script would have served as Sanskrit too. dEvanAgari isn’t the “native” script of Sanskrit. For centuries it has been written in KannaDa script (and many others) too
