I used to draw so much more as a med student, but I still rely heavily on “muscles training the mind” and handwritten notes. Has anyone on

found a good way to digitize their doodles?

Turns out doodling is the only way I can understand pediatric limb deformity correction ✍🏼🦴 Enjoying my rotation

Three separate people walked right by me last night while I was prepping to reduce a dislocated THA, asking “where’s ortho?!” - meanwhile I’m standing on the stretcher in lead ready to go! 💪🏽🤷🏼♀️

Mayo Orthopedic Surgery Class of 2024 | I am forever grateful for these five years, twelve coresidents, thousands of surgeries, and countless opportunities. Excited for the next adventure in NYC!
@MayoClinic
@MayoOrthoRes
@HSS_ARJR_CJRC
Fresh out of college in 2014 I worked
@HSS
as a premed research assistant... Now almost 10 years later, I am beyond thrilled to be joining
@HSS_ARJR_CJRC
as an Adult Reconstruction fellow in 2024!
Spent about 2 hours during a quiet moment on call today pouring over an original Netter’s Anatomy textbook. The depth of understanding he had to produce these leaves me in awe every time 🙌🏽

My dad has always said “if you’re the smartest person in the room, you need to find another room” and
@MayoOrthoRes
is 💯 that “room” where I will always have space to grow! ✨
A big takeaway from this morning’s Grand Rounds State of the Program: 🔹”If you aren’t getting better, you’re getting worse”🔹 Always embracing that
#growthmindset
💪🏽 as a program and as residents

I think everyone in orthopedics knows at least one student who didn’t match. I am on
#orthotwitter
essentially just to meet and mentor the next gen ortho crew! Hoping this webinar can shed some light - planning to tune in so I can be the best mentor I can moving forward 🙏🏼
Sometimes it’s a bummer when people confuse the many women in my ortho program on a daily basis - because I know they rarely confuse the boys 🤷🏼♀️ But I am trying to remember how lucky I am that there are so many of us that it gets confusing!

Had an amazing time at
@AAOS1
- grateful for the opportunity to present my work
@MayoOrthoRes
. The education was outstanding, seeing old friends was refreshing, and now I’m heading back to work feeling reinvigorated and inspired!

Trauma call! 🦴🔨 Had trouble drawing the metaphyseal comminution, but we had a similar intraarticular split fx today. Ended up lagging across the split, then bridged with a lateral locking plate.

I wasn’t going to get a 🎄 this year - lots of life things happening, and about to go to
@shocktrauma
in Jan - but an attending
@MayoOrthoRes
invited us to pick a tree! Moments like these I can’t imagine being anywhere else, I work with the most brilliant and kindest humans 🙏🏽
Thinking of the
#OrthoMatch2021
crew tonight with the rank list deadline approaching. It has been an honor to connect with so many of you this winter, can’t wait to see where everyone ends up! I know this process can feel like a leap of faith - you’ve got this 🦴
#orthotwitter
Haven’t posted doodles lately bc when I’m busy most of them look like this - quick sketches of relationships for case prep. Doesn’t require artistic skill and works much better than words for me! ✍🏼🎨🦴

I have daily "pinch me" moments where I wonder how I'm lucky enough to train at
@MayoOrthoRes
. I hit the jackpot with incredible training, strong faculty advocates, and 4 female co-interns. This should be the norm for all surgical trainees!

A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself -
@Oprah
| Final day of some of the most formative 6 weeks of residency so far. An incredible team and mentor.

Quick doodles are just as helpful as my bigger doodles - on busy rotations like
@MayoOrthoTrauma
I do drawings like this for case prep. Helpful to draw the fracture and the (potential) plan. Then I try to jot down what we did differently after.

We lost a legend today. A woman whose legacy has paved the way for many women like myself in male dominated fields. Requiescat in pace RBG.

Reviewing hand anatomy this week I’m revisiting old notes & sketches. Incredible how much more of this I understand since I painted this as a MS4. Still figuring out finger anatomy - but heading in the right direction!

Today with
@MayoLeadNMentor
we discussed teaching in the OR. A huge takeaway was the “BOGERD” method - a simple painless scrub sink convo with your senior or faculty can go a long way in establishing goals and expectations for a case!

Slowly getting better at prepping digitally for my rotations - focusing on approaches to the elbow this week. Love how in Ortho Onc we aren’t constrained to one joint or extremity - lots of

Please ask new teams seeing your patients “who are you with?” rather than jumping to “are you X-Y-Z?” It can certainly get awkward when teams guess wrong... 🧐 coolest one I’ve gotten though is when someone thought I was the chaplain! 🙏🏼

Could not survive without these ladies (and so many others not pictured). So happy to celebrate

this weekend, the last time we did this was 2019!
Saw this on many applications I reviewed last year... so disheartening. Please rethink your audience letter writers, thank you for sharing

Happy Match Day to all the PGY4s and beyond matching into

fellowships today! Can’t wait to see where we all end up! Looking back on Match Day 2019 my mentors were right - the days are long, but the weeks/years move fast!

Packing to move to our new home 🏡 and found some doodles from my first year of medical school circa 2015! Amazing how these anatomic relationships have become more intuitive with time and repitition (for example, carpal bones!) 🦴📚👩🏼⚕️

So amazing! Med students of
#orthotwitter
check these videos out - what a great resource. I had a tiny, (minuscule) part in these, but I’m so happy to see
@AAOS1
creating standardized educational content for the next generation of ortho!
The first videos on the
@AAOS1
Med Student page are live! These are for MS3/4 students prepping for ortho rotations. 8-10 minutes long and focus on basic didactic and practical topics like how to read x-rays. Soon we'll have 40 videos!

Ten hours into reviewing applications for the
#OrthoMatch
at
@MayoOrthoRes
, I just have to say - you all should be so proud of your applications and accomplishments. Truly remarkable!
There’s a lot to love getting to do the
@AONorth
basic course this year - while it’s a bummer we aren’t in person, it’s great to “meet” the trauma surgeons (many who also happen to be women) on all the panels each week! 💁🏼♀️☠️🔨

studied civil engineering
