I’d guess every principal tonight is thinking of their colleague in Claremorris BNS
@IPPN_Education
The stress and frustration in trying to keep everyone safe 😲😥
Schools are essential, but what about education provision for the children who are isolating? The open/close narrative is so limited as it ignores the reality for so many families in the coming weeks.
Self-isolating for a child at Christmas is absolutely heartbreaking. As a principal and a parent,
@Education_Ire
@NormaFoleyTD1
, now is the time to show how serious you are about well-being for school communities
@IPPN_Education
@NAPD_IE
A huge sense of relief as we close the school gates 😁, but also the pride in our school community, for their resilience during a most challenging school term. To brighter days ahead for 2022!
2 schools...total of 36 classrooms.
18 (junior) classrooms full, with up to 30 pupils and all staff members.
Across the playground, 18 (senior) classrooms empty. All staff WFH. Struggling to understand what ‘phased’ actually means?
@newschambers
So, so disappointed in education provision in
#Budget2024
Teacher supply crisis, no additional leadership posts, no grant for technology, no reduction in class size 😢 These are the things that matter and have a huge impact…
@ciarakellydoc
Too late Ciara. Was so disappointed with your narrative against teachers. Highlighting the challenges of an overcrowded, underfunded system would have been helpful 😔
On my second webinar today...Zoom in Education. Over 1000 are tuning in. Similar numbers accessed Admissions Policy webinar this morning.The commitment to learning from the teaching profession for their pupils is outstanding

Survived September! Huge credit to all school staff members across the country
@IPPN_Education
@NAPD_IE
who smile, support and connect with pupils every day, whilst they worry about their safety and that of their families. Taking it one day at a time...
After our second full week back in school, some thoughts....
-Children have a new appreciation for school
-Teachers are resilient and so creative
-Outdoor learning is fun
-Motivation for embedding technology in learning is very high
Stagger return to school...prioritise!
Put distance learning plan in place for those who can stay at home.
Plan a phased return, responsive to regional case numbers.
Ensure rapid testing and tracing for pupils and teachers.
Increase teachers for supply panel.
So much about school has changed. But the care, empathy and dedication of staff to pupil well-being and learning is stronger than ever. Remarkable work all over the country to reopen schools. Doing so much, with so little (time)!
School leaders and staff will meticulously plan over the next few weeks for return to school, with safety and well-being central to all decisions. With publication of The Plan tomorrow, I prefer focus on what we CAN do...

Hard to compare paeds ward to a room with 30 children in 70sq metres for 5 hours, and no social distancing. The anxiety is palpable every day.
Teachers have been getting on with it...that doesn’t mean it’s ok...
@gavreilly
Similar info sent in letter to schools on 10th March...and yet, 12th March we got 3 hours notice. Communication hasn’t exactly been a strong point for DES for the past 6 months 😳
Searching for subs...again...
@NormaFoleyTD1
said this wouldn’t be a problem 🤔🤔🤔
@josephamadigan
all the supports for pupils with SEN steadily disappear with teacher supply crisis 😢
Heartened to see all the welcome back messages from schools to their pupils. To the families of all school leaders, thank you for your never ending support and patience over a lost summer. We couldn’t have done it without you.
@NAPD_IE
@IPPN_Education
Running a photography competition in school...Blown away by the beauty of the entries, especially this one. Our children have learned lessons of resilience. We must show them hope

No joy with search for subs again today 😢
@josephamadigan

Heartbreaking to reduce support for pupils with SEN, so that classes can come to school. Supply panel booked up for the next 4 weeks!

Absolutely thrilled to see

!!! Just one month away from the 2 year mark when we decided to create a community to support aspiring female leaders in education 🙌

Sharing the frustration
@congunners
as over 24 hours has passed waiting for
@HSELive
for risk assessment and support. Families in limbo all weekend. Anyone else on call 7 days a week🤔🤔🤔
I have finally made it to the end of one of the longest, most difficult weeks of my teaching career to date.
Although it felt seemingly unavoidable, we had our first positive test in my class.

Two of my favourite quotes today for Nollaig na mBan…
To all who support and inspire through their words and actions…keep going!!!

Keeping Schools closed is not a plan! Surely,
@Education_Ire
have learned from 12 March 2020! We need a phased reopening, with priorities to respond to what is needed.
Delighted to see
@DCU_IoE
move to announced school placement tutor visits. Mentoring and support for students’ learning. Practical and helpful for schools
@annelooney
@TeachingCouncil
@simonmlewis
Risk assessment has been a phonecall only. No visits. Pods are an illusion, given class size and space.
Our role is education, not public health. Safety and well-being our first priority

Huge credit to principals and teachers who make this happen behind the scenes...on their own! Support structures are not there...yet. Would be great to see this for sustainability.
Acknowledging the challenges, and affirming all the hard work of staff...Appreciated supportive call from inspector today

It would be helpful if HSE/parent were obliged to notify the school if pupil tests positive...Otherwise, the managing of this in schools becomes an impossible task.
'We must change our thinking about teacher wellbeing' ...this also applies to school leadership. Coaching for principals and school management teams is so critical for reflection

Please confirm of a similar circular will be issued for primary? Zero additional staffing will already put huge pressure on schools...
@INTOnews
@johnboyle_INTO
can you please provide info for members regarding this.
It’s hard to describe what happens at a

brunch. The embowering conversations, critical thinking and learning, friendships and connections made, and the sharing of inspirations and aspirations …and lots of laughing. On a HIGH after this morning!
I LOVE a Friday circular, that comes into effect on Monday... said NO principal ever!
@IPPN_Education
@INTOnews
@cslireland
so difficult to plan and prioritise when circulars are issued at any random time.
