Probably my most optimistic tweet in a long while but given the increased consensus on MJO phase 8 progression and +ENSO influence, I am a bit more hopeful for mid Feb than before. A -QBO also supports NA blocking as well. Feb can go really well down south with these factors.

The doctors at the ER thought I was having a heart attack. I never thought at age of 21, you could even have that. Apparently, a severe lack of sleep elevated my cortisol levels so high that it was that bad. I'm just happy to be back home.

Its increasingly likely we will be dealing with a mid-late Jan arctic wave. With a -NAO aided by a strong Greenland block and GOA ridging, this cold should expand southeast. I’m concerned about overrunning systems. (Snow/ice) with the SE in between two masses (warm/colder)

Not a good look for east coast winter weather enthusiasts. We need to hope that dissipates and does so relatively quickly because that’s the strongest signal I’ve seen for mild pacific air with a developing La Niña since 2011. Also doesn’t help that +NAO looks favored.

I wanted to share one of the short-range models. This model has hours of icing over Metro Atlanta - with a layer of wet heavy snow possible. This will be a dangerous storm. I'd be stocking up on flashlights, water, can goods, toiletries, blankets, etc. Be prepared!

You can be in a “marginal” risk and see tornadoes, you can be in a “high” risk and see nothing. The SPC aren’t weather gods, they’re meteorologists, they’re human. Just because they highlight a probability, doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen or not happen.

We have a long way to go but I don’t think the eastern US is out of the cold come next month. Euro ensemble matches well with MJO phase 7 which promotes western ridging and development of an eastern trough and high latitude blocking.

You can be critical of the EF scale while acknowledging this outbreak was horrible and the lives and livelihoods that were taken away are more important. Those two aren’t mutually exclusive. Some are attempting to be morally righteous and it’s unnecessary.

The upcoming cold snap bears strong resemblance to the Nov 2014 event. Most prominent similarities include the (+EPO/+PNA) combo along with the (+TNH). Favors an active storm track and (+) risk of winter wx mischief pretty south. This was the prologue to the cold 14-15 winter.

The Caribbean is already warmer than this time last year and it's only late April. The MDR is also warming and that loop current in the Gulf is quite prominent. With the decreasing likelihood of an El Nino and *possibly* prolonged Nina, the season may heat up quickly.

#Ida is a category 4 hurricane now as it undergoes intense strengthening. We've had a 10mb drop in just 90 minutes. The eye is surrounded by cold cloud tops completely and the minimum central pressure is down to 943-944mb. This is horrific, very horrific.

The newest run of the Euro is worth sharing because like the GFS, it is caving toward a more amplified system. What is notable includes a persistent "CAD" setup. Icing over the piedmont region of the SE. Excuse my tendency for comparison but this screams February 12-13, 2014.
