I've been sitting on a little secret since
@VAlonsoWeather
called me just a few days ago.
I'm happy to report that I'm officially an
@ametsoc
Certified Digital Meteorologist. I'm only the 16th to earn this designation so far, so I'm one of only a few. 👏
📸 cred:
@ABC13Elyse
I've been pretty swamped in recent weeks. And now I can say why. I officially tested for the
@ametsoc
exam for their new Certified Digital Meteorologist designation and I passed. I still have to submit samples of my work, but I'm one step closer.
PS: I only wish I scored 100%.
I cannot believe I get to marry my absolute best friend in the whole wide world in less than 24 hours. Here's to a lifetime of belly laughs, good food, strong margaritas, fun adventures, and continued growth together.
My mamaw passed away earlier today. This is the picture I'll keep in my mind and heart in the difficult days ahead. While I am absolutely heart-broken, this picture still brings a smile to my face. 💔
Thank you for all the beautiful memories and I cannot wait to see you again.
That's a wrap. My time with
@FloridaStorms
is officially over. After almost two years, I'm on to the
@HoustonChron
to be the Newsroom Meteorologist. My first day is Monday and we'll be relocating mid-July.
I am so grateful for my time here. It's been an amazing experience.
Happy
#PrideMonth2023
. The fact that I was worried about putting this flag up for fear someone would vandalize it is proof of why we have a month dedicated to Pride in the first place.
This is a wild picture of the Florida Peninsula just two days after Hurricane
#Ian
made landfall. This shows all the water that is flowing out of the state and back into the Gulf after historic rain fell across the state.
#FLwx
This picture shows how the Florida peninsula is shedding all the water
#HurricanIan
dumped on it. This was taken approx 2 days after it made landfall. Ian sure churned up the waters of the Gulf of Mexico!
@jemelehill
That's a really bad take from this anonymous actor. I'm happy for Jamie Lee Curtis, but I am also heartbroken for Angela Bassett. She truly delivered an incomparable performance!
#TheOscars2023
My partner and I are in a bit of a...conversation. If one uses their imagination, does it look like the elf is in a bubbly hot tub? I think it does. My partner doesn't see it that way. Help me convince him that I'm right and he's wrong. 🤣
When you've been with your significant other for as long as we've been together, you learn to appreciate a quiet night inside. Valentine's Day for us isn't about a fancy prix fixe menu or big crowds.
It's about getting heartburn from heart-shaped pepperoni pizza & wine. 🤣
To the person who threw a tied bag of dog poop on our patio two days after we hung a Pride flag up, I hope you have the day you deserve.
Just so you know, this is going to be my Pride month look all June long thanks to you.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT, TOOTS! 🏳️🌈
Horribly disappointed in
@UF
for this decision. But unfortunately, I can't say I'm terribly surprised by this move. A truly reprehensible move on the part of this great Florida institution.
I know there's a lot going on in the weather world today, but I can't let today go by without shouting out my grandparents. Today is their 70th anniversary. Can I get a ton of congratulatory comments to pass along to them? 🥹

#70thAnniversary
A semi-unexpected thing happened today just a few hours after landing in
#Houston
. Our little family grew to include this sweet baby. We adopted her from a no-kill shelter and she's honestly so stinking sweet. She's a nine-week-old terrier mix. Still figuring out a name.
If I may ask my Twitter friends to keep my family in your thoughts, that would be great. My mamaw is moving to an assisted living facility today and my papaw is struggling. Every day together for the better part of 70 years. It's a tough transition to be sure.
Thanks! 😢
The last time Naples was below 32° was in 2012 (01/04). Could it happen this weekend for the first time in over ten years? It's looking possible according to
@NWSMiami
!
🥶🚨 Looking ahead to this weekend - A stretch of cold weather is expected, with freezing temperatures*, wind chills in the 20s*, and chilly afternoon highs! 🚨🥶
*Coldest weather across the interior of south Florida
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has always been an important topic for me and I am thrilled to announce that I am officially part of the

Me: "Who spends hours and hundreds of dollars in a gas station?"
Also me at Buc-ee's: Spends three hours and $270.
It was our first Buc-ee's outing and I think we did good by only spending less than $300. 🤣
Things I’ve learned since doing overnight hurricane coverage on minimal sleep…my eating habits are on par with a raccoon. I’ve had a two snack pack bags of chips. A Pop-Tart. A hefty brownie. A protein bar (for balance). And a Bubly Bounce.

On this

enjoy your weatherperson status, but don't let it go to your head. 🤣

Hey,
@BuzzFeed
! As a broadcast meteorologist, I can promise you we are 100% needed. Here's a small task...
Check that little app of yours, especially day 7+. Every time that app changes, make note of it. You'll soon find out why broadcast mets aren't going anywhere.
A fun time was had tonight at the
#RenaissanceAFilmByBeyonce
showing at
@AMCTheatres
. Getting to relive the experience of the tour and see Beyoncé's more personal behind-the-scenes real life just made me love her even more. What a beautiful experience.
Allow me to brag for a moment on
@Shawn_Humphrey2
! He stepped in to help out and did a fabulous job giving his forecast on
@WUFTNews
. Can I please get a round of applause for our newest Meteorologist-In-Training for First at Five on Wednesdays? 👏👏

This is the face of joy. The face of someone who lives their truth out loud and proud.
It wasn't always like this. But it is now and for that, I am so grateful.
@NewFacesofPride
P.S.: The face paint artist did a fabulous job with the rainbow lightning strike I asked for. 🌈⚡
What an honor to be highlighted. Thank you
@AMSEarlyCareer
&
@AMS_BWM
. So thankful to be a part of an increasingly diverse field of brilliant minds. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

A new found passion of mine is to post responses to Pride month trolls like, "Okay," "And?," "Wow," and my personal favorite, "Blessed." It's really effective at shutting the other person/bot up.
Oh, and I haven't mentioned it today, but Happy Pride!
I made macarons for
@ABC13Elyse
's birthday last week. They almost defeated me. But I'm proud to say they didn't. Key lime pie macarons with a lil graham cracker crumb sprinkled on top. Filled with homemade lime curd.
My little treat after a long day of storm coverage.
It's become a tradition to take a family photo whenever we leave a place.
#GNV
, it's honestly been so much fun. I slowly but surely fell in love with North Florida, except for the summers. I'll miss watching sea breeze storms converge along I-75.
I often watch
@weatherchannel
while sipping coffee in the morning (as you do when you're a weather weenie). I spotted a familiar scene as
@JenCarfagno
was describing the stormy week for the "Not-So-Sunny-Sunshine-State."
#GoGators
Well, the time has come. It's over 85° in our apartment. We've got two dogs, one of which is covered in fur, and it's time to go.
So grateful to have amazing friends that are able to share their homes (and their air conditioning).
Stay cool,
#Houston
.
May I take a second to brag on myself? I managed to get both
@FloridaStorms
and
@UFWeather
blue check mark verified on
@Twitter
! It’s a small thing, but hopefully this gets even more folks in Florida prepared for severe weather, especially during
#HurricaneSeason
.
I definitely did the meal prep thing right tonight. It’s going to be a busy week for me and the
@FloridaStorms
team, so I figured this will provide sustenance (and plenty of carbs) for the coverage marathon for
#Ian
.
#Beryl
is running out of room to get back to hurricane status. I'm okay with that.
An all-day rain is ahead tomorrow. Winds will be highest from 6AM-Noon. Tornado risk will last most of the day. We've got a bumpy 18 hours or so,
#Houston
.
@HoustonChron
has you covered.
Here's a reminder that there are literal Nazis living among us. My partner and I were accosted at the pool while we were having a conversation with our neighbor. We were minding our business when the guy sporting a swastika tattoo decided to get loud and confrontational.
I cannot believe 10 years ago
#OTD
, I was living my best life cruising along a major river in

. I was there on a study tour. We started in

, then went to

, before ending our tour in one of the most populated cities in the world.

I used to be terrified of heights. Now, as I sit on this rooftop balcony I appreciate how far I've come. I mean, you won't catch me leaning on the railing, but improvements have been made regardless. 🤣

We’re deep into

and I just finished this amazing memoir by
@IamGMJohnson
! While I saw myself in so much of their journey, my eyes were also opened to how my experiences in the LGBTQIA+ community differ from those experiences in Black and brown communities.
It's truly hard to believe that the me pictured in shorts and snow in Rockford, IL is the same me that bundled up in 45° weather to take the dog out this morning in Florida.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, all. From my little corner of the world to yours, I hope the coming year brings you everything you could ever imagine and more.
Flash flooding is ongoing in parts of

My birthday was yesterday, but a friend of ours flew into town this morning. We drove to St. Augustine and have spent the day walking around shops, eating, drinking, and laughing. ❤️
Mom's first Birria taco experience. She didn't grimace when she bit into cilantro AND she added hot sauce to it. I've never been more proud.
She fits in perfectly down in Texas. 👏

I decided to bake my own small-batch cupcakes for my birthday. Chocolate cupcake with a strawberry jam filling and a strawberry buttercream.
I haven't had one yet, but I do look forward to biting into one.
Five years ago today I sat in the anchor chair at WCNC alongside
@SarahFortnerWx

This kids, is called "bright banding." What is that? We're basically seeing the process of snow melting aloft. The radar (HGX) is scanning at higher elevations where snowflakes have started to melt.
🧵
If you're being asked to evacuate along Florida's Gulf Coast and you're still not sure if you should, let this video from Ft. Myers Beach during Ian highlight what storm surge can do.
I know it isn't easy, but it's the right thing to do if you're being asked to evacuate.
🚨 8/28 2pm: Storm Surge Warnings are in effect for Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Levy, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Taylor & Wakulla counties.
This means a life-threatening storm surge (as seen in the time-lapse video below) is expected within 36 hrs.
My latest
#Beryl
update went exactly as you would expect. Power has been out for 15 minutes and I'm already wondering how people lived without power for so long. 🥲
To celebrate
#InternationalDogDay
, here’s my little one that is terribly afraid of thunderstorms. Which is unfortunate to say the least since we live in Florida. She’s getting lots of snuggles right now. ⛈

It was a beautiful afternoon for a romp through a corn maze. It was a crisp fall afternoon, meaning it was about 85° and there was sweat running down my back.

Why have I heard multiple stories like this from folks that attended AMS? Y'all, there's room for all of us to do what we want in this field. Why tear people down?
I made this…with my hands. I had some lemons kicking around and figured why not attempt making my own lemon curd. So I did that. Then decided to make (some of the biggest) macarons to stuff my lemon curd between.

If you're without power in Harris County, chances are higher than not that you'll be without power through most of the weekend if not longer.
Quick note here: highs this weekend will be in the 90s and heat index values make a run at 100°.
Residents across Harris and surrounding counties need to be prepared to be without power for days not hours. Mutual aid resources are enroute from various areas…but restoration will take time

I made this with my own hands this evening. Pizza delivery who?
This meal scored major bonus points for not containing turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, or mashed potatoes. 😂
I did a little experiment for the
@HoustonChron
today. It's as simple as setting some crayons on a canvas and letting them melt in direct sunlight.
Dark colors were first to melt because they have a low albedo. What the heck is that?
Tonight was the most fun I've had in some time. The incomparable
@AlyssaEdwards_1
performed at
@ImprovHouston
and we enjoyed every second of it.
Alyssa: "Are you eating a sloppy Joe?"
The audience: 💀💀
When you share your electricity, you reap the benefits of my fried chicken abilities. This pile of fried chicken is enough to feed a small army. A very hungry army.
This is how you do a New Year's Day dinner in the South. I've got my pork. My greens. My beans. And my cornbread.
