How can youth coaches go from being in love with a kid while they play for you, to not acknowledging them at all when you see them when they go elsewhere. Mindful that these kids don’t make the decisions, parents do. Just proves that the love ain’t genuine, and never was

Parents have to start learning the “game” of youth sports if they’re going to try to navigate it. Camp here, tournament there..I’ve met more hustlers and fast talkers in this space than I have in any other space in life before. “There’s a lot of money in bad basketball”

To piggyback this ppl overlook how difficult it is to compete on the varsity HS level. Spacing gets tighter, coaches get to strategize more effectively because of time in between games etc. the skill level of teammates change. It’s a different level of competition

Summer AAU/Club is great but there is something special about student-athletes competing against rival schools, in front of a crowd of community members, friends, and family, after attending classes all day, while playing alongside teammates who are their classmates.

I saw this kid dominate another local kid (that’s a P5 kid) at a camp a few yrs ago. I mean straight bullied her. I fell in love with her game at that point. I also learned that the pub doesn’t matter. A dog on the court gone eat regardless of what others think. 💪🏾💯

. @NajaWinston24 grew up in LT, so she knew a lot of her teammates before transferring to @lnwildcats . Even so, you never know how new players will fit in. It's been seamless. "I'm very proud that Naja's been able to make an impact like she has."

I really appreciated the fact that Jordyn got to play on the ball a lot last season. Not that she didn’t earn it or wasn’t skilled enough to do it, it’s just that as a taller young lady you get put in a box development wise when you’re young. She needed that experience

I talk to my ppl about this. Playing up as a development plan doesn’t work or is best for everybody. What are we in a rush for? Allow kids to be kids and make age appropriate mistakes with age appropriate consequences

AAU does one major thing we DO NOT want for our youth players- It forces them to constantly play beyond their skill threshold. They never get chance to feel comfortable making mistakes in a safe training environment. They develop poor habits in the attempt to save face.
