Mogadishu is recovering from the devastation of the 1991 civil war. The tragic events of that time were to be made a symbol of unity. It’s not good that after 30 yrs of suffering, we threaten ourselves today that we’ll return to the civil war in 91, which is very disappointing.

The biggest community-led project in Gedo region. The Waadi Kurman Bridge in Bardera. “A bridge 30 meters long, 11 meters wide & 3.75 feet high. The bridge will have 246 long road with half of it being concrete on both sides with 116 long handrail with two sidewalks.” (1/4)👇🏼

It's really shocking how devastating this drought is. This morning I received a call from Hambawe near Fafahdhun Gedo, stating that 2 kids & an old woman had died due to dehydration. Wells have dried up, animals r depleted, & now pple r being reported dead for 2nd time in 2 weeks

Thankfully, this is the Juba River in Bardera that has dried up due to a devastating drought that hit the region hard. As the locals were due to perform the Qunoot prayer this morning, the river began to flow. This river has never dried up before..

This is a new school that laid the foundation stone soon, its in Gariley town & it is under construction, so far 3 classrooms and two toilets have been built, construction has now stopped due to a lack of funding @Godahbarre this was the only hope in the town of Gariley. 1/1

Reports from Wargadudo village of Gedo indicate that the humanitarian situation is at its worst. The water well there is said to have dried up. Wargadudo is connected to a large area inhabited by the Nomads, and the only well they used to draw water has dried up. @ICRC @UNSomalia

I didn’t that federalism was good for Somalia, until recently I found it well suited, especially in times of political stalemate. An unpleasant situation was occurring in Mogadishu, but no other city was affected. Garowe, Kismayo, Baidoa Dhusamareb and Jowhar were very quiet.

This is Wara-Liibaana in the southern part of Gedo region, the area is along the Kenya-Somalia border. Water has been delivered to them by the @GDRCommittee . The area is arid land, with no walls, & the nearest source of water is 55 km within Kenya. @UNSomalia @MohamedHRoble

Seeing these pictures took me back to 2018 when I visited there. The village of Gobweyn, 15 kilometers north of Kismayo, is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Somalia. They call it Gobweyn, but I call it Heaven on Earth. The #JubaRiver drains into the Indian Ocean.

I met Barre Abdi, a farmer in Baardheere whose crops were washed away by the floods. Despite losing over 200 lemon trees, he immediately started a new plantation. Barre's determination is inspirational, and him, along with other farmers, in Baardheere, need support. #Somalia
