I appreciate this but we’re talking about young girls. If they don’t want to clean up in front of boys they don’t want to clean up in front of other girls either. The only solution is to have some accessible toilets with their own washbasins.
@ccwild79
Was it a university application through UCAS? If it was, please give this feedback to UCAS and to the university involved because they need to review their systems.
@speakoutsister
Can they define what a “mother” is? Does it include the lesbian partner of someone who gave birth? Does it include adoptive mothers? People who have still births? Stepmothers? Foster mothers? Or are we going to scream at children that they are lying? Science!
@Michelle82rose
@BBCNews
What are they going to learn about loans, mortgages and the rest without understanding fractions and algebra? Have you ever tried studying business?
@JaneyGodley
Working mothers, non-working mothers, women who aren’t mothers. Old people, young people, disabled people, athletes. Dog owners, dog walkers, dog haters, eco warriors, people who spoil the countryside, people. And above all the French.
@RozKaveney
I am so horrified this morning. They are baying for the blood of this baby’s “real mother”. They do not hesitate for a moment to push lesbian mothers, adoptive mothers, disabled mothers and mothers who choose not to breast feed under the bus.
@moira_robin
Virtually everybody working in the public sector and a lot working in the private sector have done some training in equalities law. They know that single-sex provision is only in certain limited cases and that men are just as protected as women.
@speakoutsister
Most public toilets in Britain have a sign “these toilets are cleaned by male and female staff”. If someone has been sick all over a cubicle in the Ladies everyone wants it cleaned up quickly, by whichever staff member is on duty.
@David__Osland
A hung parliament is the only way to get proportional representation, but it would be good to see the Tories eliminated as a force in British politics.
@mjeslfc
@NeuroLatina
@C4544S
But why don’t they have individual changing rooms? Lots of people would prefer not to change in a communal
area even if it is women only, Crazy.
@speakoutsister
@project_lesbian
They don’t understand a lot about the census. The questions on sexual orientation and gender identity are optional. If they want exact numbers of cis lesbians - and why not? - that is just one of the barriers.
@speakoutsister
It’s the kind of radical feminism that proposes matriarchy. As well as being incredibly ableist and heteronormative, and ageist against older women as you show, it also treats children as chattels.
@speakoutsister
There are some jaw-dropping claims in that poster. How does a single-sex space protect lesbians from “the straight gaze”? And young lesbians are identifying as bi? Could it just be that those who say they’re bi are bi?
@LauraPidcock
Well phew, Laura. Let’s build up alliances then to bring down patriarchal capitalism/capitalist patriarchy. That can’t happen without the whole LGBTQ+ community.
@DanNeidle
Are they not acting for The Knox Group Ltd? Company number 10556595? The one that has filed accounts for a dormant company since it was established? With £100 of current assets as of 31 January 2023?
@helenstaniland
Women take immunosuppressants for reasons other than womb transplants, and have successful pregnancies. If you want to call yourself a feminist you have to defend our reproductive rights.
@moira_robin
The name on my passport is slightly different from the one on my birth certificate, and that is with no documentation at all. Cis woman. My civil partnership too, no quibbles. Changing your name is easy in Britain if you’ve no intention to defraud.
@helensaxby11
@speakoutsister
Not true. I had a dreadful menopause, and am still furious enough how misunderstood it is and how little support is given. Furious also with the “GCs” who consistently regard non-menstruators as lesser women.
@setoacnna
It’s not by Aretha Franklin. It’s words by Gerry Goffin music by Carole King. So, by the way, is “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)”, which doesn’t get much airtime these days.
@DrProudman
Where did you get that nonsense from? It’s from Proto-Germanic *konto, female genitals, probably not connected to Latin cunnus, same meaning. A nice variant is “queynte” as in The Miller’s Tale.
@TabitaSurge
Even a typical non-pregnant cis woman of child bearing age doesn’t produce eggs. She just releases eggs she already has. So the public toilets will have to be repurposed as chicken runs.
@SheBePamella
@DrProudman
We know it through victimisation surveys. That’s also how we know how many burglaries and assaults there are because those are often unreported too.
@speakoutsister
Patriarchy is rule of the father over the family, which includes not only wives but also children and slaves. The opposite is not matriarchy but liberation and equality.
@_celia_bedelia_
Just because there is so much misinformation about the UK NHS. A child doesn’t see a pediatrician unless it’s serious, they see a general practitioner. Child is asked if they want the parent there, or they can have a chaperone, probably a nurse.
@ShahrarAli
But can you do it without using “bastardisation”? Let’s see whether you can argue without slurring children of unmarried mothers like me as “bastards” and “illegitimate”.
@ejrosetta
@jarvinen_aku
@AGoldmund
You don’t need a dad to do etymology, luckily for me as mine died in 1982. “Cis-“ is fascinating. It can be traced back to proto-Indo-European, and is cognate with “he” and “here”, but not with “cistern”.
@SteveBTooze
@JustStop_Oil
I’m not outraged, but I’m terribly disappointed. Liking old paintings something we want to encourage, not discourage. Compare how in the 1990s Greenpeace installed solar panels on the roof of the Department of the Environment. That’s direct action that actually makes sense.
@TabitaSurge
It should be misconduct for a solicitor to alter a Wikipedia page on behalf of a client. Errors and libels can be reported on the biography of living persons noticeboard.
@speakoutsister
Lack of abortion rights. Maternal mortality. Child mortality. Domestic violence. Casual street sexism e.g . wolf whistling. Absence of maternity leave/pay and paternity leave/pay. Violence against sex workers. Lack of sex education. Lack of children’s rights. Police violence.
@DrProudman
@X
Things feminists have been doing for decades, independently of you: using only their forenames; merging two surnames; double-barrelled surname for both in couple. You should have noticed lesbian couples in the forefront of these moves.
@helenstaniland
So, “women’s rights” means rights for women you approve of but not for women with disabilities who need to take medications that are approved for use in pregnancy. How lovely.
@Ajaygee71
@speakoutsister
What, exactly 6500 differences? That sounds precise but “crucial” is not precise. You are right that medicine has taken male bodies as the norm. Trans rights are not an obstacle to changing that.
@speakoutsister
It’s a belief that is intrinsic to patriarchy and that we all have difficulty in freeing ourselves from. Our parents warned us not to trust men, and we warn our daughters, because we love our daughters and want to see them live.
@CeilNoyle
I distinctly recall Baddiel and Skinner agreeing that anal “is no good if she wants to do it”, then having to apologise. Now I can’t find a reference to it. Anyone else remember?
@speakoutsister
It’s a lot more than half when you take into account all the people on hormones (“the meds”) for contraception, regulating periods, endometriosis, fibroids etc etc etc.
@speakoutsister
“Diversity industry” speaks volumes, doesn’t it? Meanwhile, in real workplaces people (especially unions IMHO) are getting on with trying to be more inclusive and lower barriers. Here, for example, is bread and butter stuff from the HR folks.
@SPhinbow
@andrew_b72
Point out to him that in English the plural “you” has superseded the singular “the” and “thou” even when you’re only talking to one person.
@David__Osland
Don’t work too hard on it. You can just read it and skip whenever you like, or you can have a guide alongside it. There’s no exam at the end.
@MForstater
Men are protected against discrimination on grounds of sex. If you don’t understand that you don’t understand anything about equalities or rights.
@bilvershells
@Paul_Ilett
If I swap clothes with my male partner and walk down the street in a sweatshirt, jeans and trainers nobody will notice. If he puts on my dress and long boots you will start to scream. “Gender critical”? Not much.
@TheHangedMan18
@DrProudman
You can go and search for where the figure comes from. It is for girls who were pregnant before 15, and the fathers’ ages were 20-29. The big problem is it’s a very old estimate.
@MacKinnonDaily
And carers wipe bottoms of old people they wouldn’t otherwise know, just for money. Nannies change nappies they wouldn’t otherwise change and plumbers unblock toilets they wouldn’t otherwise unblock. Capitalism.
@speakoutsister
I used to do research using census data. Everything has been “self-ID” since 1911. People saying they usually walk to work may actually get the bus more often than not. And the other way round, so it all comes out in the wash.
@speakoutsister
I see “mother”, “father” and “parent”as parallels. These are social
categories that have a loose relationship to biology. There are step parents, in-laws, adoptive parents, godparents and foster parents. Do you stop being a mother if your child dies?
@AllyFogg
They should look at France where not only was the mainstream conservative party reduced to nearly nothing but the mainstream socialist party too. Hatred of Tories does not mean love of New Labour.
@BevJacksonAuth
@speakoutsister
@Vaishax
I highlighted two sentences in the poster you shared. One seems to exclude straight women from women-only spaces and the other to disbelieve young women who say they are bi.
@noraj_williams
I’ve been retired a few years now but this thread still fills me with despondency. Everyone else in and around academia is a miracle worker. I’m reviews editor of Capitalism Nature Socialism. I did that.
@AskATranswidow
@PaulSim10353260
What you’re saying is that women can wear absolutely anything we like but men have to stick to traditional masculine roles. How is that fair?
@speakoutsister
The background to all this is Tory education policy and the enforcement of strict gender segregation, especially gendered school uniforms. Until the 1970s teachers had to, by law, take the register of the boys before the girls. That’s the world they want to take us back to.
@DarkestFayth
The Suffragette movement was not a monolith. It included Sylvia Pankhurst as a major figure, and you can hardly accuse her of neglecting class or colonialism.
@AllyFogg
Global Institute for Women’s Leadership chaired by Julia Gillard, poll conducted for International Women’s Day. Bourgeois feminism trying to play it safe and scoring an own goal.
@speakoutsister
I’ve been doing my family tree, and in the mid 19th century there were some ways an AFAB could get out of having 10 or more children. Like, die in infancy, die in first childbirth, marry someone very old, become a missionary. Such is our reproductive power!
