Nuclear is not a ‘dirty word’ - it is simply the most expensive, slowest, and inflexible form of energy generation; it’s commercially unviable & uninsurable; it’s toxic to the environment & human health.
Despite countless inquiries it remains a weird obsession of the Coalition.
Perhaps nuclear isn’t a dirty word after all?
I still haven’t got a reply from the PM about a National Energy Summit to discuss future energy sources.
We need leadership to start the conversation &
@The_Nationals

The Australian community wants to see Julian Assange go free.
Today, I seconded a motion passed by Parliament which supports bringing the matter to a close so Mr Assange can return home to his family in Australia.
You mean John “children overboard” Howard?
John “weapons of mass destruction” Howard?
John Howard the guy who said that long-awaited justice in the form of native title would ruin Australia.
Give me a break.
John Howard has hit out at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for driving a scare campaign against the Coalition's nuclear power plan.

@AnimalsAus
The Speaker of the House decided there was a prima facie case for the reference of Christian Porter to the Privileges Committee on his receipt of anonymous funds.
For the first time in Australia’s history, the Morrison govt voted to block that reference.
Simply outrageous.
The Liberal govt inflicted a ridiculous copper-wire NBN lemon on Australia that has left us 62nd in the world for broadband speed - and now we learn they misled the public for years about the cost of Labor’s fibre network to the tune of $10 billion.

The water hasn’t gone down yet, and we haven’t seen the full extent of the damage to our community due to catastrophic flooding. We have started a fundraiser to help local residents and businesses who have been affected.

What a pitiful joke.
You junked Labor’s expertly designed, durable, and fit-for-purpose fibre network for an expensive slow copper-based mess that was obsolete on delivery.
Now we have to fix it.
Under 6 years of Labor, just 51,000 premises were connected to the fixed line NBN at a cost of $6b.
Since we came to government, there are now 12m premises able to connect, and 8.3m already connected.
Labor talk a big game, but the Morrison Gvt has actually delivered.

Brief history of having a close look at nuclear ☢️ in Australia:
* 2006 Zwitkowski inquiry (for Howard)
* 2015 SA Royal Commission (Weatherill)
* 2019 Cwlth Energy & Environment committee (for Morrison)
* 2020 NSW inquiry (for Berejiklian)
All concluded nuclear ☢️ not viable.
The Coalition used the ABCC as a tool in their campaign of aggression against working people and their representatives in the union movement. That resulted in a decade of stagnant wages and rising workplace insecurity. We are not going to allow that to continue.

I support the positive transition from live sheep exports to a higher-value, higher-jobs, and more humane chilled and frozen boxed meat trade.
Annual live sheep exports from WA can be processed for sheep meat onshore in just 4 days. 👇
Don’t forget:

Hundreds of thousands of Australian sheep have suffered through the rotten live export trade, which has declined by more than 90% - and is worth <0.1% of agricultural output.

Unsurprising that Dutton and the Coalition are dismissing the CSIRO's factual analysis of the costs of nuclear power. Dutton was happy to accuse even the Australian Electoral Commission of bias.
The bill for a sensible transition out of the marginal, unnecessary, and harmful live sheep export trade has passed the Senate.
We now have the clarity required to deliver $107m in assistance as the trade comes to an end on 1 May 2028.
It’s an honour to have been asked by the Prime Minister to take on the responsibility of serving as the Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy.

And don’t forget that while Morrison & Co had to be dragged to provide a wage subsidy, their incompetence saw more than $20 billion wasted by paying JobKeeper to businesses whose turnover didn’t fall during the pandemic.
Site selected in 2010 … plans to be operational in 2031.
That’s 21 years lead time for a country that’s been in nuclear for ages, built by the French contractor that’s been in nuclear for ages.
$30 billion per GW.
Looking forward to Dutton’s detailed costings and timeline.
‘The UK's flagship Hinkley nuclear power plant was announced in 2007 with an estimated completion date of 10 years at a cost of $9 billion.
However, it remains unfinished, with the latest estimated completion date being 2031, and the cost has now risen to a staggering $92.5

And in fact nuclear is in decline globally.
It peaked as a proportion of global energy in 1996. The number of reactors peaked in 2002.
Last year the world added 440GW of renewables. Nuclear decreased -1GW.
China alone added 217GW renewables and only 1GW nuclear.
Sweden, France, Finland, the UK and Germany are all expanding their output and consumption of renewable energy. Posts on social media claiming the five European nations are abandoning wind, solar and hydropower are false.
Amazing how much Morrison knows about issues in other workplaces when he relentlessly knows nothing about his own.
Fake remorse. Real aggression.

Live sheep exports by sea have been plummeting for years, along with community support due to serious animal welfare concerns. Now, the trade will end, with Parliament voting to phase out the industry from 1 May 2028.
There is no evidence that nuclear SMRs are cheaper and safer.
They don’t exist.
The evidence from projects in development is they are just as unbelievably expensive and slow as old large nuclear.

Brutal but accurate. The AFR tells Peter Dutton what his frontbenchers (who are either too clueless or too embarrassed) won't tell him: there are no investors for nuclear power in Australia
Australia’s support for Palestinian participation in the UN is consistent with support for peace, justice, and self-determination for the Palestinian people in a two-state solution.
