Honoured to deliver my maiden speech as the new Labour MP for Pendle and Clitheroe.
Where others seem intent on undermining our police, I look forward to being an outspoken advocate for policing in Parliament.
Watch the clip below to hear more. 👇
Introducing the Labour group on Ribble Valley Borough Council. From zero councillors to SEVEN, and the Tories have lost overall control - what a result! 🌹🌹🌹
Sir Lindsay Hoyle, gave us new MPs such a warm welcome at Speaker’s House.
His late father, Doug, represented the Nelson & Colne constituency 1974-79, and his father’s first run was actually for Clitheroe in 1964, during which Lindsay delivered leaflets, aged seven!
Thank you to local members for selecting me as the Labour candidate for Pendle and Clitheroe.
We’re going to take back Pendle and give Clitheroe its first Labour MP since 1950 🌹
Get in touch if you’d like to be part of it!
I’m on the shortlist to be Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the new seat of Pendle and Clitheroe, and I’m grateful to have such strong support from across our movement!
An incredible privilege to be here.
Spending the first few days learning about how Parliament works, so that I can be the best possible representative for Pendle & Clitheroe.
I will respond to correspondence as soon as possible, but please bear with me as I establish my office.
The winning team!🌹
This afternoon was about thanking our amazing members and supporters in Pendle & Clitheroe for all their hard work during the campaign.
And we’re not stopping now - we’re back out speaking to voters on the doorstep next weekend!
A familiar face in the new workplace!
Fantastic to bump into one of my old colleagues from when I was a response team inspector.
To all the brilliant police officers up and down our country, know that I’ll always speak up for you in Parliament.
I am very pleased to advertise my first constituency surgery.

Labour’s green prosperity plan will create good, secure jobs in our area and across the country💰
Vote Labour on Thursday 4 July 🌹
Amazing to welcome
@lisanandy
to Clitheroe for a round of campaigning yesterday.
I’m really looking forward to seeing her in a senior government role, finally!
So grateful to
@LancsPolice
and to the thousands of my former colleagues working across the country tonight.
Days off cancelled, long shifts in full riot kit, in the heat, battling shocking violence.
You have our FULL support.
Thank you for your service to our country.
We can confirm more than 20 people have been arrested today during a large policing operation in Lancashire.
Dispersal orders were issued in parts of Blackpool, Preston and Blackburn, with arrests made after some disruption.

Big three points for
@ClitheroeFC
in the derby against
@Colne_FC
today, and heading for the play offs 🙌 This was a lovely finish from
@Absobasoto
to round off a 4-1 win:
That really was a fantastic speech from Keir Starmer. Labour will establish publicly owned “Great British Energy” within first year of taking office - brilliant! 🌹
@CoopParty
Bad news: I can no longer feel my toes after five hours in the freezing cold 🥶
Good news: Lots of great doorstep conversations with residents in Kelbrook and Sough today 💬
He’s like clockwork, this bloke.
Always on hand to offer an ill-informed, anti-police comment to further stir up tensions.
The footage is concerning. Swift investigation required. Don’t pre-judge based on a short clip.
Greater Manchester Police has referred itself to the conduct watchdog after a video online showed a police officer kicking a man lying on the ground.
Former Met Police Chief Superintendent Dal Babu tells
#R4Today
he thinks 'racism played a significant part' in the incident.
When I was growing up in Clitheroe, having a Labour MP here seemed impossible. But now we’re in a key battleground seat.
We must win Pendle & Clitheroe to deliver a Labour government.
Come along and ask me anything at Old School Rooms, Lowergate, Tuesday at 7pm.
We spoke to hundreds of residents in Clitheroe and Earby this weekend; people are so ready to call time on this shambolic government.
Huge thanks to those Labour members who came out in spite of some torrential rain! 🌹
The polls show it is too close to call between Labour and the Conservatives in Pendle & Clitheroe.
No other party is even close here. The choice could not be clearer: more decline under the Conservatives, or change with Labour.
Out in Read and Simonstone all day today speaking to voters and delivering my introductory leaflet.
Thank you to the many former Conservative voters saying they will be voting Labour (when Rishi Sunak finally calls an election!) 🌹
Good to catch up with Clitheroe Rugby Club Social Secretary, Peter Mitchell.
Peter used to vote Conservative, but he’s backing my campaign to be our Labour MP this time around 👍
(…he also happens to be one of my best mates from school, but that’s not the point! 😂)
It doesn’t get more “Core Tory” than this…
Not these days, though! Finding so much Labour support in the beautiful village of Wiswell today 🌹
Village Tour Day 8
Great first event of my Meet the Candidate series in Earby last night, where I met Vince, a former Conservative voter who’s backing Labour this time ✅
I’m in Kelbrook tonight, Foulridge tomorrow, and invitations will soon be dropping through letterboxes for future events.
Great to be out speaking to voters in this new part of Colne today, with our 2024 council candidate, Graham Roach.
Views of Pendle Hill and Blacko Tower in the background, in what counts as decent weather in East Lancashire! 🧣
Amazing to have both
@LucyMPowell
and
@hilarybennmp
join us in Barnoldswick yesterday 🌹
We’re sprinting for the finish now and it’s going to be close in Pendle & Clitheroe 🏃♂️
Public transport in our area is an absolute joke! 😡
No trains for Pendle or Clitheroe on Sunday - no replacement buses, no explanation.
This is why we need a Labour government that will deliver proper public transport for the North.
⚠️ Please check before you travel across the North West this Sunday (30 June).
We are unable to run trains or replacement buses along the following routes this coming Sunday.
- Stalybridge - Wigan (via Bolton)
- Colne - Preston
- Clitheroe - Manchester Victoria
- Chester -
Excellent panel discussion on the left’s agenda for crime and security
@thefabians
new year conference. Our entire criminal justice system - from policing to probation - has been left in a terrible state, but
@UKLabour
can fix it
#FEPSFABNYC23
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’re protesting – if you turn up in a mask, with a weapon, intent on causing disorder, you will face the full force of the law.
To those working with police and community organisations with pride and civic duty - you are the best of us.
I couldn’t disagree more with Rod Liddle’s rather simplistic assessment of Labour’s chances here
@spectator
.
If any columnists want to actually visit Pendle & Clitheroe before forming an opinion, consider this an open invitation!
I’m very excited to launch my series of Meet the Candidate events.
An opportunity to hear why I’m standing to be Pendle and Clitheroe’s MP, what my plans are, and to put questions to me on anything at all - there are no pre-set questions or topics!
First three dates:
We're celebrating
#InternationalWomensDay2022
This is PC Ravalia and PC Ravalia, they're twins who have been through training together, and are now both fighting crime together as neighbourhoods officers in Tower Hamlets.
They're also both black belts in martial arts!
@comms_sherlock
I keep saying it, we can introduce all the engagement teams and projects you want to improve confidence in policing, but none will be as successful as just doing the basics well ie actually investigating crimes and getting outcomes
Back on the doors for
@cllrwblackburn
in
#Colne
today. Main complaint from voters - “why haven’t you got the Tories out yet?” Let’s keep at it and we will! 🌹
@PendleLabour
“Pendle has the highest number of children in poverty in the UK”.
What a damning legacy of 14 years of Conservative government.
We need change. We need a fresh start. We need a Labour government.
Speaking to voters in
#Barnoldswick
this morning. Labour’s commitment to rebuild neighbourhood policing really resonates here, where so many are concerned about the lack of police presence

Lancashire is a beautiful part of our country but it needs the change only Labour can bring.
That change will only happen by voting for it.
Great to have Bill Esterson, Shadow Minister for Roads, out with us 🌹
There are 100x as many potholes on our roads as there are craters on the moon! 😮
Labour will end the sticking plaster approach to repairs, with multi-year settlements and an additional £320m for repairs 🛣️
Another great event in Barrowford, taking questions on everything from the NHS to foreign policy.
