Imagine Death Stranding, but you're a mayor of a town. And in that town live animals that have their own personalities and needs. And you, as the mayor, have to help build the town and connect the animals together by performing tasks and paying off a raccoon real estate mogul.
Brother, it sure didn't hurt him as much as the hundreds of people who no longer have jobs.
It's not a time to defend execs, Mike. Show some humility for the people who worked for your overly inflated paychecks and express some actual sympathy.
Man,
@gamestop
even took the website down? That's a fucking monstrous move. The staff has work on there that's not accessible now, not to mention freelancers.
I was asked to wait a day to say anything officially, so here it is. Unfortunately, I am part of the GameStop layoffs and am no longer employed at Game Informer as of yesterday. I'll cherish my time there and the people I worked with even more.
HUGE PERSONAL NEWS!! I'll be joining
@gameinformer
next week as their new Associate Editor! I could not be more excited to start in the midst of E3 and everything else. It's going to be A MONTH. I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running w/ the amazing folks at GI!
This isn’t the time for snide comments about people not supporting GI the right way. This is 100% on GameStop. Always has been. They have had every opportunity to support GI more and fumbled it every time.

This move to hire "AI Editors" is a strong case to support independent games coverage that's trying to be sustainable. If you enjoy thoughtful articles, videos, podcasts, and more from REAL people, toss a few bucks to a creator's Patreon or PayPal.
Two quick things:
1. GI is still very much around, but the crew is operating with a much obviously smaller staff than it should be.
2. Support them and show them love as much as you can. There's so much talent in the entire staff
Now
@gamestop
nuked the Game Informer Twitter account. This scorched earth plan is beyond shitty and evil. Fuck GameStop. Don't give them another cent of your money.
Game Informer Forever!
It was a dream come true but I guess its time for something else. I have no idea what that is yet, but I'll be ready to hit the ground running wherever and in whatever capacity that may be. Thank you for all the love that’s been shown so far. 💙
Well, Game Informer laid off
@LeBlancWes
and
@John_Carson
yesterday, so you know what that means…
Today, the Former Informers host Kinda Funny Games Daily!
Come send Bless and them love in two hours on !
If you look at the day so far, most of the increase happened before the Bungie news. It's barely moved since. At the time of announcement shares were at $111.19 compared to the $111.40 now
My review of MultiVersus is now live on
@IGN
!
Thanks to
@JurassicRabbit
and
@Ronny_Barrier
for being too busy with SDCC stuff (and killing it all weekend) and putting in a good word for me. ❤️❤️❤️
My heart goes out to all of the now-former Game Informer staff. They’re all wonderful, hard working people that do not deserve their livelihood to have been ripped away. Whatever each of them do next, I will support them. I hope you will too.
Hate on GameStop all you want, but give the GI staff your attention. Watch the YouTube videos, click on articles (and read them! They’re great!) and listen to their podcasts.
Yesterday we lost three Game Informers –
@John_Carson
,
@LeBlancWes
, and
@JeffAkervik
, our brilliant Creative Director of 14 years.
We were a skeleton crew before yesterday’s layoffs, I don’t know what that makes us now.
They really need your support, and so do the rest of us.
Do yourself a favor:
Go read the reviews of video games and encourage others to do so. Aggregating scores doesn’t help anybody when there’s no context. The game industry is actively worse when the impact of games is boiled down to a numerical average.
I was worried this wouldn’t make it out to subscribers, but it thankfully did. I’m so happy to be a small part of the final issue of Game Informer, which is now the only place you can read my FFXIV: Dawntrail review
.
@gijeffm
and
@yozetty
will be joined by
@John_Carson
and
@LeBlancWes
to talk about their time at Game Informer for Party Chat at 7pm Central, join the MinnMax Council and call in via Discord! We'd love to hear some new voices from the community.
I'm two days from the one-year anniversary of being laid off from Game Informer. That thought came to me as I posted my first article for
@Indie_Informer
a few minutes ago. It's good to be back
It's been a hell of a day. Once again thanks to
@KindaFunnyVids
for having me and
@LeBlancWes
on to host. Thank you to all of the people in my mentions today, it really means a lot. To the folks who DMed me, I'll get back to you soon.
Sometimes I think about how much it sucks that my career was cut short and I was robbed of meeting awesome people and the opportunity to cool travel to cool places because of blind, mindless corporate cuts.
And hello to all of the new followers! I'll of course be tweeting plenty about video games, but also card games (magic, yugioh, etc.) and wrestling. It's going to be a wild ride for the coming weeks/months.
@bombsfall
I was asked to sign a letter of resignation from a retail store for taking two days off, which I was supposed to have covered but my coworkers no-showed. Then a month after I left they called me up to get me back in and ready for the fall
My first review with Game Informer came out today! I really liked my time with Griftlands and plan on playing more once my second review this week is done
Griftlands' successful approach to conflicts, relationships, and worldbuilding make this deck building roguelike stand out in the genre. Find out why in our review:
Last night at our current place. It’s where Rose and I have lived the longest together. We got a new cat, got engaged, got married, she beat cancer, and we quarantined here. Tomorrow is exciting yet bittersweet. On to new adventures in Minneapolis.
I'm not adding this to draw attention to myself. Losing the job sucks, but it's worse when there are no positions to apply for to replace what you did. Those that do become available have a dozen+ killers aiming for the same gig. That's for media. I assume it's the same for devs.
Beyond the money, insurance, etc., the mental toll of being laid off cannot be overstated.
I cried a lot when I was laid off (on my b day no less ha) – I worked so hard for the job, and it was gone, instantly. And 18 months later, the worry it could happen again still remains.
Be careful using the word "delay" with this Switch 2 stuff. While it might be an "internal delay" of sorts who knows what the actual timeline is/was supposed to be), the product was never announced and, therefore, is not a delay delay.
Started my new job today in my previous career. I’ll be fixing up A/V systems for now, but I promise I won’t be far from games. Looking into ways to keep writing or talking about games in my free time. Stay tuned.
I don’t have anything personal to plug (nor do I think people should need to plug anything that when they get retweeted a bunch) but please go check out
@MinnMaxGames
! They’re a wonderful new group made of former Game Informer staff that you should check out!
If anyone has emails they would like to send my way (Press releases, business inquiries, etc.) send them to JohnCarsonGames at Gmail dot com. That’ll be the best way to reach me. ❤️
Celebrating FOUR WHOLE YEARS of marriage with my beautiful wife
@horse_hands
!! I can't believe it's been that long already and I can't wait for forty more ❤️❤️❤️❤️ (also this food looks awesome. Going to hit send so I can eat)
Reminder to anyone in the game industry who wants to contact the Game Informer staff: Our emails are available on the site's Staff page. Mine is JohnCarson at GameInformer dot com, and my DMs are open. If you'd like to bring anything to my attention, those are great places to go.
It blows my mind that people will tie themselves into hateful knots to regurgitate lies from some rando about game development instead of listening to devs like Rami, who go out of their way to open the curtain to the current state of making games in 2024.
So the Gamergate ex-dev grifter is back claiming shit about forced diversity leading to funding and let me tell you, not even once in my life have I worked on or with any title that had an easier timing getting funding because it was different, diverse, inclusive, or equitable.
