When I was an F1 some awful ward nurses made a “joke” jobs list for me with things like “panic about nothing” and “cry” written on it with ticks next to them, laughed when I was upset by this, and then called me a waste of space to my face… so yeah, it needs to be talked about

@wiggs1234 The single biggest misconception about ICU is that it’s an exciting dramatic discipline. Great ICUs attain their outcomes through the nursing staff. Detail, discipline, thoroughness and care are what saves patients. The doctors are mostly spectators and procedural bunnies.

The problem with this guidance is it feels like it’s moralising towards a group of doctors who may use apps or engage in anonymous sexual behaviours, all of which is within the bounds of law. For example, does the guidance cover if a person sexts their spouse?

First worked with PAs in anaesthesia in Holland in 80s. 1 doc to 3 theatres, PA in each. Doc attends for induction and emergence, decides analgesic etc plan. PA monitors and calls if things deviate from plan. 1/

@iDrSunny Some of the nurses when I was an FY1 were so vile to me that I would wake up and burst into tears at the thought of going into work and had to have several days off sick because I just couldn’t face it. I haven’t experienced it as I’ve been more senior, but it’s 100% a thing.

My dad died and we couldn’t even have a funeral. I got Covid from working last Christmas and spent nearly 6 weeks in isolation. I didn’t see my family for two and a half years. I actually can’t watch this again because it just makes me want to scream. Something has got to change.

A pregnant dual anaesthesia/ICM trainee was apparently told this week in by an influential consultant (not my hospital) that she had to “choose between being a good mum and a good doctor” Why- in 2020- is this still happening? @ficm @WomenICM @RCoANews

The Primary FRCA was the hardest exam I ever took. I took 4 attempts to pass written, 3 for OSCE & 2 for viva. It took years of my life. These example questions from RCoA demonstrate it’s rigour. The Final was another challenge to overcome. The exam is humbling. #TeamAnaesthesia

Had a rotation once where, at the end of 4 months, not one of the nurses knew my name. They just referred to me as “the doctor” or more commonly “hey you”. It felt terrible and was really noticeable. Call your juniors by their damn names, it does matter 📢

@veggieequallife I was telling someone recently (in a fairly casual conversation) about how a law firm near me did a free will-writing service for NHS workers during covid and they were like “that is one of the darkest things I’ve ever heard”… seemed like more of a convenience at the time tbh

Covid Day 7: first day without blacking out, finally starting to be able to breathe and talk again. ~18hrs/day spent sleeping and ~1hr spent crying out of loneliness, frustration and exhaustion. Please stay at home. Get the vaccine. Wash your damn hands. I’m done with this.

@Occams_Blazer Honestly don’t know if I could cope with this, in a high pressure situation I’d just be blinded by the sheer level of organisation and not know where to look for anything… the chaotic rummaging through drawers while someone yells at you is one of the few constants in the NHS 😂

- This department should not have allowed this PA to *appear* to be working unsupervised in resus on national TV, especially given the current climate - Any clinician, regardless of their profession, who volunteers to appear on TV providing pt care is a red flag tbh (2/3)

This year has been really awful for my mental health, and I've had to spend more time with my GP than I ever expected to. Today she rang me out of the blue just to check that I'm ok ❤️ good GPs are worth more than their weight in gold tbh

@HughOS Obviously I’m not saying not to do any exercise 🤦🏼‍♀️ but bragging about regularly doing full days of elective surgery on 4hrs of sleep for the sake of what is essentially a hobby is not a good look.
