@sgevans
Stan Anderson is quoted in Mark Metcalf’s Charley Hurley bio as saying in the 50s winning the cup was far more desirable than the league title for players as your friends & family got to watch you on telly!
@TonyEvans92a
Why do they feel the need to play the national anthem at a club game in any case? Less than half the players are from the UK. We managed with ‘Abide With Me’ for decades.
Enjoyed Pears’ clearance for the 3rd but wish he’d passed it across the box back & forth to the full backs for ‘some of the best football we’ve seen at Ewood in recent years’
JDT shouldn’t even be allowed to be wandering about Brockhall at 11am on a Friday morning shaking hands & saying Tara. Eustace should be out there with them drilling set-piece defending routines into them. Niceties and paperwork can bloody well wait.
‘We’ve turned things around’ ….. two wins in 15 games. Two places lower in the table. Four points closer to the bottom 3. High time our local reporters were challenging this disingenuous crap
🔵 ⚪ "[If Blackburn avoid relegation], it's a cause for celebration. We came in three months ago and the place was very low on confidence... We've turned things around and been as positive as we can."

Saying ‘You’ve cut my budget, not got me the kind of players I want, variously loaned out good midfielders, even altered the goal (survival > promotion) - ok but I’m still going to try & play easy-on-the-eye tippy tappy football isn’t, to me, noble or honourable. It’s reckless
Three years ago today I was admitted to Royal Preston. It wasn’t entirely expected that I’d come out. Forever grateful. Whatever I experience there’ll never be another feeling like walking into my family home 10 days later. Every day is a free hit. Enjoy every sandwich folks.
My last glimpse of Sammie in a Rovers shirt. Just being a nice guy. I was born too late to see the 63-64 famous five forwards in action. But I saw Andy McEvoy and heard about his earlier days from my dad & Szmodics was the embodiment of his style. Do well, fella, you deserve to
‘Fantastic.’ Winning one in 12 ‘has been fantastic.’ Never has a club’s definition of what’s acceptable been recalibrated so wildly on a weekly basis. You can’t set a bar much lower than we are setting it at the moment
I spent 7 weeks in the Priory in 1998 after similar thoughts. Rock bottom. The goodness of family & friends traipsing out to see me in the middle of nowhere kept me going. Was I embarrassed to have come to that pointt? Very. Am I now talking about it? No,just glad I sought help.
Can we all remember what system it was John Buckley didn’t fit into and why it was best he went to Wednesday as he ‘wouldn’t be getting any game time”?
We’d 17 games left when JDT left. The 10 before that were Southampton, Bristol City, Leeds, Rotherham, Huddersfield twice, West Brom, Hull, QPR and Watford. This narrative about Eustace’s run of fixtures being significantly harder is nonsense
Woman behind us lustily calling Wrexham’s Paul Mullin a ‘Bloody Dingle’ every time he gets near the ball, obviously under impression he is the Burnley-born 49-year-old ex Stanley Paul Mullin (bother of John) not in fact a 34-year-old Merseysider. Both played for Morecambe
Fourteen out of 20 teams have come to Ewood and denied us a win. That’s not bad luck, referee decisions, injuries or misfortune. It’s a pervading culture of low expectation and under-achievement. Sick football club syndrome.
We’re at the stage where points are all that matter. With seven games left, it’s hard to look beyond that.
But there was only one mistake and some wayward finishing between the teams. On another day, they get more luck with the ref too.

That’s 62 matches scored or umpired this season with one to come (Whalley v Cherry Tree next week). One gashed shin and subsequent evening in A&E when it got infected. I’ve been unavailable one Saturday all season. Had one Sunday off, Worsley Cup Final day. Met some great people
All the standing in rain, snow and wind crossing kids over, & dealing with bumped heads and playground arguments is worth it a million times over when you get a message like this from a little lad who’s been at school just 3 months & is going back home to Romania next week.
Kevin Moran was 34 when he signed for us, 36 when he scored the goal which took us to Wembley and 37 when he finished a PL season in which we claimed 4th spot with 38 starts.
I’d argue, once again, by holding our Goal of the Season early, we’ve missed out on the true winner both in context, creation & execution. Szmodics’ first was worthy of an international tournament final. Genius, pure genius.
The table after the Stoke win and now. Those employing the shifting calculus of circled wagons around Eustace would have you believe we’ve fought some kind of worthy relegation battle.
Chucking tennis balls on the field after 14 minutes? Only a bunch of Rovers fans could come up with a protest designed to further prolong a cup tie which could in theory finish about 10.45pm on a school night to start with
I’m sorry but whatever money is available, whatever the injury situation, whatever the personnel available, manager & coaching staff responsible for working with and improving what they have including the defence.This guy just isn’t learning or looking very much like he wants to
Big day in the Wilkys calendar. 44 years since Lesley & I first talked to each other en route to the Manor Ground. Asked her out a year later. Jam gig with me & 3 other lads. So romantic.Lost touch met up again 2002. Little bundle in pram Olivia Louise arrived on this day in 2004
Re vacuum packing a few shirts. Couple of signed ones. And my favourite unsponsored Umbro 1981 Kendall era one which I bought to take to Barbados. Long sleeved. Chest 36. Waist was around a 30 then too.
Told you before there’s no such thing as ‘projects’ in football. Certainly not at our level. There’s this week, Next week,The rest of the season & next season when you know where you are. Oleaginous smooth-talking corporate tw*tspeak peddlars just make life hard for managers
So how could my amazing
@lesleywilkinson
make a perfect day even better? By springing a surprise like this on me - we walked into a room to dine and look who’s here, our two beautiful daughters! No idea they were coming to join us on Anglesey. Breathtaking moment!!
A very happy 60th birthday to my wife and best friend
@lesleywilkinson
who pretty much turned my life around 22 years ago. Sometimes wish we’d got married 20 years earlier when we were briefly almost an item but so happy with the time we’ve had together with two lovely daughters
Look after yourselves and your friends. Nobody who feels they’ve reached their nadir need ever be fearful of talking to me about how they feel and I’d hope my friends all know that.
Two of the greatest nights out I had as a younger fella both involved FA Cup replays at Villa Park. Lost both but just the excitement of organising the transport at short notice - 3 days then - and taking an above -average following to a big club’s ground,seeing your team compete
Sixteen minutes of your day is all it will take to watch & hear Bruce speak tenderly of Asbury Park before delivering Meeting Across The River into a magnificent Jungleland. He’s 75 next week & when totemic rock’n’roll moments like this are gone, they’re gone forever. Inspiring.
MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN

FREAKING NAILS THE SOLO making his Uncle Clarence SO SO PROUD on a absolutely
It always amazed me that people who are talented, successful, well off, good-looking - none of which I was - can be in the same boat I was. But we all have our demons and our lows. I was lucky and blessed that when I recovered, the best days of my life were still ahead of me
One poster reckons Eustace didn’t take account of ‘horrendous conditions’ & jiggle selection accordingly. In 57 years or so I’ve seen a couple of ‘snow specialists’ (bygone breed) but never looked at a player & thought ‘this mon’s ok but I wouldn’t play him in a heavy shower’
Devastated for the lads. You can’t score for a bunch of lads as smashing as the
@CherryTreeClub
players & not be gutted when they contribute so much to a great game and end so agonisingly short. Five points but not really consolation. Well done

Unbelievably, seen a tweet saying ‘how is this Rovers fault?’
That’s - how is it Rovers’ fault that the deal they agreed yesterday before putting a lad on a plane has been called off with him on a mid-Atlantic jet?
Tell me this if it isn’t Rovers’ fault whose is it?
Orlando FC striker Duncan McGuire currently at a hotel in Sheffield hoping a move to Sheffield Wednesday will happen later today after a move to Blackburn failed
For various reasons, Christmas Dinner, Phil Spector LP etc a day early (with Rollers up). Been some trials this year, not least losing Dudley, Lesley’s dad who always joined us at this time. But as always this is a house where love is all around. If not for you

Imagine writing a song that makes everybody happy every time they hear it. And makes senior citizens feel the warmth and vitality of summers almost 50 years ago when they were kids and teenagers. What a gift to have and what a gift to give us.
500 tweets from a cricket league I follow nominating everything from player of the season to tearoom of the year. But not a single clue offered as to why one lot had 100 points deducted and went from third place to bottom in the final week.
A Happy New Year to one and all. 2023 wasn’t the easiest for our family but we got through smiling and laughing and loving. As ever, The Beatles had it right. Look forward to seeing & hearing from the wonderful friends & family who supported us whether they knew it or not.
@AndyMitten
Was there in sumner Andy I’m a Blackburn supporter but while in Munich for a few days thought it only right to go & pay respects having read so much about that team & the disaster.
Peter Jack - the Jeweller, said it has presented the award at every home game for 35 years but this week had been told they had been replaced. Full story 👇
Bloke I used to stand with at Ewood named Ray who wore an air of vague confusion once shouted at our week-in-out 9/10 skipper ‘Feck off back t’Forest Sherwood’ We pointed out politely that he’d actually come from Norwich via Watford and he replied ‘No, I meant Sherwood Forest’
What's the strangest thing you've heard someone shout in the crowd at football? I was watching Workington Reds once and an opposition player fouled a Reds player and someone near me shouted 'What's he playing, football or a shagging match?'
Probably the least surprising aspect of this whole circus.
Yes, results haven't been up to scratch lately, but any employee would struggle with inept bosses.
Good luck to him; we'll kick ourselves when he's winning trophies elsewhere.

It’s well away from the city centre but David spent a lot of time at the Brücke Museum. It’s amazing. Try to get hold of this small book - I got it in KaDeWe book section. And of course you have to get a train from Potsdamer Platz…..
Secondary school in Blackburn 1970-77 lessons and access to instruments available to all whether your dad was a company secretary or a bin man. I know that continued & expanded through the 80s.
What working class kid in the 80s was playing flute and in a youth orchestra? Sorry lessons for instruments that require classical training COST MONEY.
Being comfortably lower middle class and comparing yourself to very rich kids does not make you working class.

, on the floor after being bowled out for 30 yesterday, win the cup game off the last ball with 9 wkts down. 6 grounds in 4 days I’ve been on and cricket people are so nice everywhere
And playing fast & Loose with our future on the field. Bringing his family into that situation seems wilfully defiant or even mildly provocative. ‘Ok you want lower mid table. I can do that stood on my head even with this set of stiffs.’ But he can’t.
Within a few weeks of the season starting new manager Ken Furphy had cleared about 9 of those players out. Including the captain, sold to Ipswich with Bobby Bell valued at £25k coming the other way. Two weeks later he sold Bell to Palace for double that.
@tickerscricket
If your wicket keeper isn’t thinking about ways to get people out you maybe need a different keeper. (*I know he isn’t keeping in the WC, mansplainers)
Trying to reclaim my old Twitter account -without any help from X- keep Gerri g so far then it asks me to generate an authentification code. This looks like something you have to pay for through another app. Anyone any knowledge/experience of this?
Forty-four years ago we were pictured on a photo for the first time at Hilton Park services. Slightly awkwardly, another girl positioned closer to me on the way to a. Nearly-promotion part at Oxford. We got in a bit closer today on our way to celebrate our 21st wedding annivrsy
I said yesterday if Stokes got 150 we’d win and I firmly believed that. This game makes wise men & fools of us all. On a cold January day I can’t wait for Spring warmth and to sit on Cherry Tree or Oswaldtwistle Immanuel again. Every cricket day is life-affirming
Not been much of a new manager bounce with Eustace but certainly a surge in daft explanations of why the absolutely dire, almost unwatchable football we’re playing is ok because garnering an odd draw here and there mostly against fellow relegation candidates.
Never carried away with JDT. And certainly not by this fella. Predicted early on when we were scabbing an odd home win and riding high that we’d end up in a struggle. We’ll stay up by a point or on GD but let’s not be bringing flags and doing a lap of honour after this shit show
I think
@petepaphides
with his wonderful book Broken Greek paved the way for unabashed re-appraisal of unadulterated pop music. I’ve long swore I’d die on a hill that says ‘I Think I Love You’ by the Partridge Family is as good a record as anything by Thin Lizzy, The Clash or XTC

I wonder how we managed in decades past when on completion of a cup draw there was no possible way of immediately dissing the club’s fans you pulled out of the hat or demanding what price the tickets be set at?
Which games were we ‘written off’ before? Leeds away I’ll give you. But Southampton & Ipswich at home weren’t games that I thought we couldn’t get something from. Rest perfectly winnable for a moderate team. This guy just re-calibrates the task he’s had to spin it as an ‘escape’

will be harnessing the mentality that saw them win at Elland Road this weekend.
John Eustace says they're used to be written off but he's confident they can cause problems for the newly-crowned Champions.

Superb display but job far from done yet. Plymouth and Huddersfield in particular have games they might regard as winnable next. A point off Saints would do.
