WHO-13 broke in overnight... we had 3 meteorologists at the station covering the storms. We did live updates at 1:30 AM, 2 AM, and 2:30 AM. Sorry you missed it.
Was interesting at 2:00am-2:30am when severe thunderstorms impacted DSM metro and not one local WX professional up and in their stations discussing storms. Lot of ozone due to LTG, winds and the like. Sure can remember nights I did SVR WX duty in my AF WX days!
A Winter Storm will hit the state hard by Thursday. Please watch the weather if you have travel plans. I would travel Wednesday morning or Saturday in Iowa.
An intense derecho moved from far southeast South Dakota into Ohio yesterday (8/10/20). This derecho traveled approximately 770 miles in 14 hours and produced widespread damaging wind gusts, including numerous wind gusts over 74 mph (65 kt) & several over 90 mph in central Iowa.
This is the latest GFS weather computer model showing 4-8" snow totals across Iowa by Friday morning with the heaviest amounts falling overnight in Southern Iowa. Posted on 1/10/24
I'm so excited for this. I get to be a part of the 2021 Rokerthon. I will be talking about Iowa's weather from the new Lauridsen Skatepark on Monday morning.
Des Moines is currently at 39.1" of snow since January 11. We could break our 40-day snowfall record (43.5" 1912) with the snowfall expected Tuesday night-Wednesday!

Thanks for the nice message. I will miss waking up with you too. I am excited to get more sleep and try a new challenge. I will be doing the same thing, just at a different time.
@JeriannWX
Jeriann, I just read that you are moving to the noon/4:00 pm broadcasts. Will miss your early morning forecasts & your weather rating for the day!!!
Today is a big day. I get to meet the generously lady who has been sending me all these beautiful outfits. I’m looking forward to thanking her in person.
I made it! 3 AM update on Wednesday morning... it is still snowing and roads are rough. It took me 40 minutes to drive from Van Meter to downtown Des Moines with no cars on the roads. Plows are out and working it. I did see 4 cars in the ditch.
The heaviest snow will move across Iowa after 8 PM. Travel will be impacted overnight and throughout the day on Friday. The winds will be gusting close to 40 MPH. Please stay home if you can on Friday.
