Thanks be to God my sister in law is coming home! She went to confession for the first time in 20 years and met a merciful but good priest who told her the steps she would have to take to be received back into full Communion (including convalidating a marriage). She was giddy!

I still appreciate the definitional point that @michaeljknowles made: spiritual but not religious is literally describing the demonic. They are made of pure spirit (spiritual) and don't give to God what is his due (not religious).
