I made a video suggesting some alternative modes of transport to beating 45 minutes of car traffic in a city. I got hundreds of responses along the lines.. 'well of course people need to drive, what if it is raining, cold or they need to get to the supermarket.'
2012 vs 2020 What a transformation. Highlighting the inefficiency of the automobile as means of transporting people.
@Anne_Hidalgo
2014 vision of re-engineering the city's roads and Junctions to be less car centric has really paid off. Less pollution, congestion & more cycling
Words fail me. Here's HS2 being built at Chipping Campden.
Anyone bellyaching about why HS1 costs so much, look at this and then just shut up and go away.
Completed cycling 453km around the Netherlands with my 10 year old daughter in a week from the Hook of Holland. Lots of cycling in the dunes, along dykes & cycle paths. We'd see how far we get each day and at around 4-5pm find a local campsite.
The land in front of the fence & the land above the fenced tree line, sheep are reared. The land in the middle is part of a military base, left to grow wild. Interesting to see what the hills should look like.

Can't have young people going to Europe learning languages, participating in other societies & cultural life. Observing how people live, where many EU countries have better transport systems, better public spaces & welfare systems etc. No keep them here, keep them ignorant.
@StanCollymore
Some England fans make it hard for people to get behind England. I was on train last night and had to witness '10 German bombers' and England fans harassing passengers. It's no wonder no other country wants England to do well. Zero class & awful 'banter'
With fewer cars on the road, I am seeing way more families and leisure cyclists on the road. I recorded this within a few minutes. Never seen anything like this where I live. The people will cycle, if they believe and know the roads & infrastructure are safer.
NQ, this is good. Well done
@ManCityCouncil
. I always pictured NQ like this without the cars. I am enjoying the table service in pubs, am I in Berlin or somewhere.
I asked a driver to stop engine idling. His response 'why should I? What's the problem'?' Had to explain the issue of air pollution, how much he emits. Driver 'fair enough' and turned his engine off. Big problem is people don't even know it's wrong. Needs a national campaign.
"Sheffield Council has revealed plans for a pavement parking ban covering the the city centre.
The proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will make it illegal to stop at any time on a path or verge around most streets in the centre of the city."
The claim people are cycling around at 52mph on London doesn't stand up to the midlest of enquiries. You are better than this, you are supposed to be professional journalists. 1/2

McLaren 570 seen driving in excess of 100mph on the M6 close to Wigan. It's a shame he didn't spot the unmarked police car behind him! Vehicle stopped and driver reported.

This is possibly one reason Scotland has much better gravel tracks for cycling than England. When wind farm gets built, they require service roads which can create 100kms of gravel tracks for walking, running and cycling.
Your periodic reminder that England, a windswept nation with more potential for onshore wind power than almost anywhere else in the world (other than Scotland), banned new onshore wind farms in 2017.
Gov could stop speeding like this if they wanted with technology. Car manufacturers sell something they know is unnecessarily capable of speeding. Doubly they sell them on the basis of their performance. (watch most adverts) Car industry & gov both irresponsible.
Shared Users pavements that give way should be made illegal. Not fit for purpose, more dangerous, constantly having to give way at junctions. They also create resentment. This video was captioned "£1000s spent on cycle lanes and they don't use them"
Signs e-bikes are a game changer? seen my first late 70-80s women flying up the road out of Kettleshulme on an e-bike to the top of the Brickworks. Then I saw another older lady on an e-bike at the top of Cowlow Lane, which is here:
UK Council: There is no way we could give one lane of the dual carriageway to a bi directional cycle lane, it would cause traffic chaos and delay the buses.
Dual carriageways in urban areas up and down the UK:
Paid my Road Tax (vehicle excise duty) A generous contribution to the up keep and maintenance of the roads. The right to complain about cyclists has been granted, they don't pay road tax, therefore have have no right to be on the road or have the cheek to ask for their own lanes
To encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling, the speed limit on almost 4,000 Glasgow streets is set to be lowered to 20mph.
These proposed changes support national strategy to roll out this safer speed limit in built up areas across Scotland.

This walking & cycling bridge is a game changer for the communities that live either side the river. What was over an hour walk from Govan to Partick is about 20 mins now. More economic opportunities with reduced travel times north, south & into the city centre of Glasgow
Just imagine crawling through the centre of Manchester in a car on a warm day, being overtaken by pedestrians. People put themselves through this nightmare.
I wish the mostly single occupancy drivers would stop attempting to drive two seats a breast, slowing the cyclists, getting them frustrated. They should be made to drive single file. They're just stopped in the middle of the road not moving, it's awful. Council should sort it.
This is exactly what we want to see, streets safe enough kids can play out on them. Where motorists drive slowly, respectfully and cautiously. The only problem here is the driver.

Most of the Snowdonia, Lake District & The Pennies should be rain forests. They are instead lands ravaged by intensive sheep farming

You could help by persuading your paper not to take the editorial line of not presenting cycle lanes as 'controversial' & 'row' so much. They should be treated as standard infrastructure like roads and pavements, all main roads should have them like in the Netherlands etc

Nope, I suggested an alternative to beating 45 minutes because someone was complaining about being stuck in car traffic, they weren't happy with it. That's when I got all the...what if it's raining
Great turnout on the A6 through Levenshulme. Cross section of people, families to brand new people on bikes. Asking for safe protected cycle lanes on the A6, so they don't have share the same road space as HGVs and heavy traffic.
@StockportMBC
@ManCityCouncil
You can do this.
@liambillington
Active travel barely exists in Tameside. Their 'tantrums' are probably out of desperation for safety. If you built a network of quality protected cycle lanes, which should be basic infrastructure like pavements & roads. You would probably never hear from people who ride bikes.
Driver who told cyclist “I’m going to kill you” before ramming him with car jailed
Judge told Bradley Harris he had carried out an “appalling piece of deliberate dangerous driving” when he knocked Michael Edge off his bike

There is room for a bi-directional cycle path on Bramhall Lane South,
@WalkRideStocky
. Shouldn't have to cycle in the central hatching to avoid the traffic.
Erm Manchester what fresh car parking hell is this? £34.95 for SIX HOURS!! Feel sorry for anyone stung by this one heading to the city for a day out. It’s the NCP at Spinningfields
@andrewellson
3 people, even the trolley alone wasn't enough, hence the need for a back pack too. If it was 5 people, I'd be tempted to get a cart like the below.
Someone on a local FB posted dash cam footage of a car going through a red light. I can't see the people reacting this way if it were a person on a bike.

I own a car, but I want to end car dependency, fewer cars in cities and more alternative options for people to travel around. If that makes me anti-car then so be it.

Park Lane was Chaos 8 years ago. If you choose to travel by one of the slowest, most space inefficient forms of transport in a city, expect to encounter traffic. Removing the faster, space efficient alternative would be crazy, everyone shouldn't have to suffer
