It was great fun - and a great honour - to take part in this WorldWrite documentary on the solidarity English cotton workers gave to the Union cause in the American Civil War. Thanks Ceri @MsDingle

@AdamWagner1 If they are defeated by a party that has made it clear that they won’t re-open the issue, I don’t see how that can be true. In the polls, Labour only overtook the Conservatives when Starmer committed to staying out.

@andrewrobs @nicolelampert @TowerHamletsNow Those deaths are Hamas’s fault for starting and carrying on a war that the Palestinian people cannot hope to win. That’s the flag people carried when they invaded southern Israel on 7 October, and murdered 1200 Jews.

@meadwaj Brexit did happen. The ‘sixth mass extinction’ didn’t. That’s the difference between them.

@hawktalk_blog @DaveHill @ShamaTatler @faizashaheen If Shaheen was willing to accept the endorsement of the Labour Party in 2019, why does she refuse to accept the party’s endorsement of @ShamaTatler in 2024?

@ClarkeMicah If you vote Reform, you vote Reform; if you vote Conservative you vote Conservative; and if you vote Labour you vote Labour. How is it that a grown man doesn’t know the difference between one thing and another?

@thephilippics @meadwaj The biggest problem with the environment is not the environment, but the damage that people do to the economy thinking they are helping the environment. Years from now we will think of green policies the same way we think of the Crusades to take Jerusalem.

@askforcawmbyok @BarbaraRich_law @compactmag_ I suppose it is possible that you are insane, but it seems more likely that you are pretending to believe something palpably absurd for clout. Whichever it is, you are not worth talking to. Bye.

@atrupar Or you could just choose another candidate - one that wasn’t going to lose to Trump?

@VincentGeloso At the time people knew that the slave economy was a constraint on economic development. Anti-slavery publicists like Frederick Law Olmsted and Lewis Tappan explained as much at great length in their many articles and pamphlets (I wrote about it here: )

@dartsman2024 @schneiderhome @OurFightUk That’s what happens when you lose the war. Shame on Hamas for fighting on without any hope of success and without offering up any defence to Gaza’s civilians.

@JamesSurowiecki How did you not know that your candidate was incapable? Everyone else in the entire world knew, and kept on telling you.
