My book about the London 2012

Park tells the story of the bid, the regeneration and what has happened since. Paris was favourite to be Host City in that year. How did
#London
do it? The politics, planning and the personalities are all here: ….
The Elizabeth line really *is not* "utterly pointless" and practically all the money to pay for it was raised in London. Without London's economy there would be no money to invest in the north. "North-south divide" populism is no solution to regional inequalities.
#devolution
The only service between Manchester and Leeds. It's a 30 mile journey. It takes 1 hour 12 mins. It costs £26. I'm currently stood half in the toilet.
This Government's continued insistence on investing in London, like the utterly pointless Elizabeth Line, whilst leaving the

In the coming hours I will be asking every Conservative member of the London Assembly for their opinion of remarks made on
#GBNews
by Conservative MP
#LeeAnderson
about Sadiq Khan. Watch this space.
Steven Edgington is the video comment editor of the Telegraph. He personifies the normalisation of extreme right-wing opinion at that news organisation. When Conservatives import such attitudes into their party in order to cling on to power, that is the result.
Believe it or not, London has a working-class, the highest poverty rates in the country & many low-income people whose values might be called "traditional". London as a whole is also a solidly
#Labour
-voting city. There might be some sort of lesson there.
@lisanandy
@jessphillips
‘Labour has too few working class members and needs to rediscover its 'northern soul' .
90’s Labour focused on Southern Discomfort (the Fabian pamphlet written by then Labour MP Giles Radice). Now we most focus on rediscovering our Northern Soul.
This is outright lying. It was a Tory government requirement, written into the 1st TfL financial rescue deal, that
#LTNs
would be introduced without prior consultation by *boroughs*, whose streets Mayors are not in charge of. Shameless.
#ShaunBailey
#LondonMayor2021
.
He has no grounds for complaint. The Bill was a stunt in the first place and he clung on to

Today Labour ran the clock on my Conservative MP colleagues & I on our fight against ULEZ.
Since I was elected to be the MP of Uxbridge & South Ruislip, fighting against ULEZ has always been a strong priority of mine.

has claimed he will do things Mayors have no powers to do & that his Labour opponent will do things that will probably never happen. He has spread false "facts" about Council Tax & TfL. Now,
@BBCLondonNews
gives him a puff piece: .
Maybe cycling activists could take a lead in encouraging cyclists to abide by the highway code and generally behaving more considerately on the streets instead of routinely changing the subject to bad behaviour by drivers. Accepting responsibility might win them more friends.

The
#Labour
candidate for
#Chingford
& Woodford Green is a valiant, committed, skilled and experienced London politician and the only challenger to Conservative IDS capable of beating him. Why even consider voting for anyone else?
Now we're up to *three* Haringey Labour councillors suspended today and the Labour Group AGM, scheduled for Monday - at which a leadership challenge was expected - has been suspended too. The "Corbyn council" has been a poisonous shambles from day one.
@UKLabour
@LondonLabour
.
People call each other liars too readily these days, but having just watched
#BorisJohnson
at
#PMQs
claiming that
#tfL
financial problems are "entirely" the fault of the current Mayor I am afraid the PM has confirmed beyond all doubt that he is indeed a liar.
The Telegraph asks: "Is it time to scrap the Mayor of London?" The answer is: "It is time to greatly enhance the powers of the Mayor of London and those of his equivalents in other UK cities in order to strengthen and 'level up' the nation": Next please.
Terrible result for the Conservatives in Richmond-upon-Thames, reduced by the Lib Dems to a single seat with the Greens finishing second: Not long ago, Richmond was Tory-run.
You will have heard and read a lot about her rivals for the Tory-held
#London
marginal of Chingford & Woodford Green. You've been told next to nothing about the
#Labour
candidate herself. There's more to her than you might think: .
Are you planning to explain to viewers how Jeremy Corbyn's highly privileged, public school-educated right hand man helped the Guardian's editor get her job? If not, there are others who could.
@BBCNewsnight

I'm on

TfL chief Andy Byford confirms he still hasn't been allowed to see the government-commissioned KPMG review of TfL finances, despite repeated requests.

Give yourself a little time to read this man's letter of resignation from the
#LabourParty
. It is shocking, moving and angering. Corbynism has been indulged for far too long.
Richard Horton canvassed with Corbyn in Islington North. He writes to the party leader: 'Antisemitism has been normalised in Labour and in my opinion your behaviour over a number of years has legitimised it'
Sadiq Khan's winning margin was 55.2%-44.8%=10.4.
Not as big as his win in 2016. Bigger than both of Boris Johnson's wins. Smaller than both of Ken Livingstone's wins (just). It was decisive.
#SadiqKhan
#MayorOfLondon2021
Am amazed by the amount of coverage, some of it favourable,
@standardnews
has given crank candidate Laurence Fox. He clearly despises London and most Londoners and the foul stench of his general attitude to humankind is overpowering.
Claiming there are "mass knifings on London's streets" when the capital has the lowest rate of violent crime of any region in England is both irresponsible and sign of political desperation.
From where I'm sitting (in my home in Diane Abbott's constituency, since you ask) absolutely nothing at all has been obvious about this saga. Why does
@SkyNews
think this silly self-publicist's opinion is worth anything?
Been catching up on the remarkably, ah, inventive campaign of Corbynite idol
#FaizaShaheen
in
#Chingford
& Woodford Green, which is trying to help IDS cling on. No fringe independent, even if sometimes on telly, is going to win this seat. But
@ShamaTatler
of
#Labour
really can.
Returning from corner shop visit on foot 10 minutes ago, I have to leap aside as a cyclist - young, full Wiggo kit - bumps up on to pavement in order to by-pass red light and avoid stopping. Such behaviour is commonplace & is what makes cyclists unpopular with many.
@willnorman
Which human being would you sooner have in charge of your country? "Boris", Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Robert Jenrick, Suella Braverman, Kemi Badenoch...or this guy?
I was very moved by this. Keir Starmer talking about his relationship with his father and how it impacted him

Listening back to
#Marr
interview with Sadiq Khan I am becoming increasingly irritated. Asking a London Mayor if he takes responsibility for capital's relatively low vaccine rate is asinine. For one thing, Mayors don't run the NHS in London. Get some better researchers.
The number of homicides in London has been on a generally downward trend since 2017. London Mayors, whoever they are, have very limited powers to affect crime rates, which vary for a range of reasons they do not control. But don't let reality stop you misleading your viewers.
God bless Thomas O'Halloran, the 87-year-old stabbed to death on a mobility scooter in broad daylight in Sadiq Khan's Lawless London.
This is the sixth murder investigation launched by Scotland Yard in four days.
Tolerance for violent crime in London must end.
We demand change.

Not sure I buy this
@ChrisMasonBBC
. Farage can only be said to have "returned to the fray" because journalists decided this non-candidate's activities are "a story". He is an "influential politician" mainly because journalists and broadcasters have chosen to make him famous.
There is no argument. Government money was distributed by TfL to borough councils that wanted it for
#LTNs
and those boroughs are responsible for their creation or removal - *not* the Mayor. Bailey surely knows this.
#BBCLondonVote2021
Perhaps because he intends to absolutely hammer the Conservative Party candidate on 6 May and thereby send a message to Downing Street that the capital city of Brexit Britain is not much impressed by the Tory national government. It's just a hunch.
#LondonMayor2021
Foreground shows quite typical realisation of Waltham Forest "Mini-Holland" scheme,
@NewStatesman
. A mess - bus stops and cycle lanes stuck in middle of pavements, pedestrians penalised to facilitate lifestyle choice of a small, affluent minority. Is that progress?
Just to confirm,
@GMB
team,
#BorisJohnson
*did* introduce a concessionary free travel scheme for 60-65 year-olds when he was London Mayor but it was *not* the Freedom Pass, which has existed for decades (cont)

I thought Rob an impressive candidate for
@LondonLibDems
. Just missing out on an Assembly seat was a poor reward for getting his party into 3rd place for Mayor. He would have brought valuable skills to the job of scrutinising Sadiq Khan's third term. But maybe he'll be back.
Thanks very much to everybody who voted for me on Thursday.
I'm delighted that we got the best London Lib Dem Mayor result in 16 years.
Congratulations to Hina Bokhari and Gareth Roberts, our newly elected London Assembly members.
If people would stop getting off on denouncing the feckin skypool and devote just a fraction of the same amount of time and energy on improving government housing policy we might begin to get somewhere. By "people" I especially mean housing activists and journalists.
Today, like every day, I stand in solidarity with gay, lesbian, trans and bisexual Londoners. I see you, I hear you and I thank you for what you bring to this great city. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
#IDAHOBIT2021
Surreal and bleakly hilarious that
@AndrewBoff
, the most thoughtful member of the London Assembly Tory group - who would have made a far better candidate for mayor than Susan Hall - has been thrown out of the Tory conference for disrespectful muttering during Braverman's speech.
Significant that Sadiq Khan has picked up the issue of cyclist behaviour at floating bus stops - ignoring zebra crossings, travelling much too fast. A more civil and considerate
#cycling
culture, such as found in Copenhagen, would definitely help the cycling cause in
#London
.
I urged the government to fix Hammersmith Bridge because
@SadiqKhan
wasn’t going to.
So I’m thrilled to announce that
@GrantShapps
is stepping in where the Mayor failed.
Ministers are now taking control of the bridge and fixing it once and for all.
A clear win for residents!
Consultation of residents found most were opposed to it. And "ripped out" is the now standard emotive language for removal. Activists should seek to persuade, not browbeat and impute "shame". It's so counter-productive.
Our LTN was ripped out today and I watched the lorry driving up and down the road with all the planters it had ripped out before ours and onto the next. A sad, shameful and embarrassing day due to
@EalingCouncil

No Mayor of London has operational control of the Metropolitan Police. Marches in London can only be banned if a Home Secretary agrees to a request from the Met for that to happen.
Germany has let fans back into stadiums. France has let fans back into stadiums.
@SadiqKhan
has let London fall behind.
As
@TheSun
says, the sports industry is worth billions to the UK. So let’s get fans safely into stadiums and help our economy recover.
This claim by
#BorisJohnson
is completely untrue. The concessionary Freedom Pass has existed since 1973, created by the Greater London Council and now run by
@londoncouncils
who mostly fund it...
Spent six hours today travelling on

TfL intends to buy more Elizabeth line trains before the production plant in Derbyshire shuts down. They are needed to make up for the latest

delays meaning passengers won't get direct to central London until around 2040: .
@Mark_J_Harper
Generally speaking, Mark "the poorest" in London don't own motor vehicles at all. Also, I was reliably informed that during the Covid crisis your department was astonished to discover from TfL how low car ownership in London is overall.
The flying of the Union flag should be compulsory for all schools. If any pupils and teachers have concerns about this then surely they can be “educated” about what the flag actually represents. 🇬🇧 belongs to every single British person.
In other words, the public transport concession Johnson *did* introduce for older people when he was mayor has now been eroded by his own national government. Definitely worth pursuing and clarifying this for your viewers,
@GMB
. 😎
London contains the highest poverty rates in the country. Talk of a "north-south divide" obscures the more complex realities of inequality in Britain and fuels a crude regional populism than does nothing to address them.
