Happy 40th birthday to the Ford Sierra. As many know, I own what is thought to be the only remaining UK registered Base spec car left. Being honest, I did hope that a mag or publication would want us for the anniversary, but no. ☹️
Have a couple of pics anyway.
My twenty-four year old Toyota has one of the simplest but best features ever. Heated Mirrors!
Check this out. -2 this morning and solid ice on the glass. 😍
Having sold two cars over the last 6 months - this is, quite bizarrely, the best car I now own. 39 years old (like myself) and unbelievably handsome (which is where the comparisons end). Hurrah for rubbish cars who still proudly walk their beat.
Couldn't believe my eyes when, on my way to work this morning, this diesel Maestro whizzed in front of me like it was the most normal thing on earth.
What a glorious old Doris.
Couldn't believe my eyes when, on my way to work this morning, I saw the exact same diesel Maestro that caused me to not believe my eyes just yesterday.
Two days running!
What a babe. What. A. Babe.
Back in 2016, a nice fellow off of the internet suggested a meet up one Sunday afternoon. So - straight after my radio show - we went to Burger King in Milton Keynes and this happened.
#FordSierra
Christmas 1995 in Cambridge - looking down on the railway station car park (when it wasn’t £12.50 to stop). Which is your favourite? I reckon I’d take the Sapphire, although a new R8 would be wonderfully average.
You?
The bloke gets saved from an upturned Robin Reliant by a legend, and still puts Phil Oakey into a popularity contest with Jarvis Cocker. Unbelievable. 🤣
Five years ago TODAY:a few of us chipped in to buy this old heap. Then, quite bizarrely, I became rather fond of it.
Tonight it passed another MOT, ready for its 38th year of motoring. It’s weird seeing something once so “futuristic” look so old. But that’s mostly why I like it
It’s 1984 in a rather pleasant part of Ipswich, my home town. The fire brigade have an open day, and they’re doing a demonstration on an old banger.
One marathon chocolate bar to anyone who can identify the vehicle.
A sad moment as our faithful old partner left the family today. After 269,800 miles - countless smiles - sporting victories - crushing defeats - endless roadtrips - the odd disagreement - and bringing Albie home from hospital, the innings is declared.
Spent the night desperately trying to get this turd ready for an MOT. The exhaust has been welded so many times that - frankly - once more won’t hurt!
Checks complete - wish us luck!
Time to find this one a new home. Mot until the end of the year, five new tyres, stops and starts as well as any old Ford and looks eminently stylish whilst doing so. Let me know if you're interested.
This amazing MK3 Escort 1.1 in Prairie yellow has just appeared on Facebook market place. It's not for the faint of heart, but very saveable. DO A BUY!
Four years ago today I agreed to buy this. A 1984 Mini that hadn’t turned a wheel in 20 years. Why? Because it used to belong to my Nan and I wanted to give it a loving home. Today it went off to the paint man for some love. (Check out the BT Transit in the background) 🥰🥰
To celebrate my 2,165th follower this afternoon - here's an abandoned Peugeot 505 GTi with venerable 2165cc engine. I wonder if this will ever see the road again...
Ugh. Car in the air, exhaust off, prop off, stabiliser bar off, gearbox down, clutch out, they sent the wrong clutch kit. 72 hour wait for one to come.
You don't have THIS with a 'dull modern' - which is exactly why people drive them.
Taking the old lady out tomorrow, so gave her a quick clean. Only 80s products allowed so a quick t-cut and turtle wax and we’re looking a bit more presentable!
Saw this little charmer earlier today in Cambridge. Obviously used to just trundle about in when needed. Perfect condition for me with it being careworn outside, immaculate inside - complete with useful roof rack. 10/10
Now I've passed 1,986 followers, have a photo (of a photo) of my Mum's Volvo 360 GLT. Super rare in white and 3 door, with that 1986cc B19E - B200 E engine. Very underrated old things.
Just watched (belatedly)
@Carpervert
reviving a MK2 Granada Chasseur and - for the first time - desperately missing the MK3 Escort I sold last year. There’s just something about early 80s estate cars eh?
Five years ago today - My Ford Sierra Base. This is a poignant and stark reminder of the abject horrors of old car ownership. If you’re thinking of it, don’t. 😬
Another landmark for my ageing but brilliant Toyota Avensis. After a weekend dancing through snow in the Peak District we’ve just ticked over 269,000 miles - nearly 433,000KM. It still looks good for it too!
Crying out loud. A SUPER rare MK1 Sierra Base. Exactly what I need for parts. Already at £700, which is what mine cost (in working order) in 2016.
This would sustain my old girl indefinitely, but £HFM? 😔
Had a little Twitter rebrand to align with Facebook and prepare for a few things next year - including a bit of Youtube, the odd Road Trip and maybe the odd sale or two!
Don't worry though: it's still me - and this old heap.
Ooh! I’ve tipped over 3,000 followers. So here my old 3.0 litre Mercedes w124, next to my much loved (and constantly annoying) w201.
Both now sadly scrapped, which is why I now never sell anything ever 😒😂
Ever had a Metro? This abandoned one in St Neots reminded me of the red one I owned. I nicked some headrests out of a Maestro to make it more plush, and would do 30 in first gear!
Can’t stop thinking about this low spec Sierra on Marketplace with its miserable Indenor donkey and singular dangly mirror. In some ways, more miserable than my own…
To celebrate England’s amazing success tonight, let’s spend a moment to remember the greatest limited edition car ever made. The Fiat Panda ITALIA 90 ⚽️ 🇮🇹.
I would give both testes and a lung to own one of these for just a month. Anyone else?
#ENGGER
Here’s how to buy one.
1-Locate car and disregard price because drunk.
2-Buy it Now.
3-Wake up next day in cold sweat.
4-Empty thousands of pounds into gleeful vendor’s bank account.
5-Drive home remembering when these were everyday cars for everyday blokes.
6-Regret🥲
Slightly outside my usual remit, but these are a rare beast in the wild. Bonus points if you can name the owner's other car (parked just beyond). What a masochist!
I’m getting ready to spend some money on my Mini. With that on mind, the Escort is for sale. Please RT and share with anyone you think might be interested. Ta. x
Two weeks to go until

. Quick flashback to 2019 when my friend Mike won it with his glorious Morris Marina Deluxe (Someone's doing well) and I didn't with my Late Nan's Mini. 😂
Five years ago I bought this glorious six cylinder w124 for close to loose change. I loved it, should never have sold it, and have to accept it’s now likely in bits… in Africa.
Julian Barker over on FB took a load of street scene pictures of Cambridge back in 1995 “to use up a film”.
All these years later, they’re utterly fascinating. Mill Road is now very bohemian, but look at the street furniture! 🥰
Bloody heck,

. 😭
The first interview I ever did when I joined Heart. He was utterly lovely, gentle, intelligent, talented, handsome and supremely tall (!) A real gentle giant.
Sleep easy dude x
One from the archives: the time
@realGrandThrift
@gholdsworth2000
and I saved a MK3 Escort estate Base from undesirables on the internet.
It was far better than the Sierra in pretty much every single way. I was very fond of it.
Who cares that it’s over £30k? It’s the same size as a Southend bedsit, a 1/6 of the price AND IT’S BROWN. The temptation to go mortgage free with just my Wille Nelson tape and a change of pants is off the scale.
Good news: New clutch is now fitted, Gearbox back in, prop connected and we have BROOM BROOM!
Bad news: I *may* very soon seek to find a new home for this charming old heap. It'll need to be a special home, and I reserve the right to change my mind!
@mattjohnson333
Life long Ipswich fan - born and inbred. Wishing you and yours a lovely Christmas, and if there’s any Norwich merch then I hope to see a photo later of them proudly showing it off.
Keep plodding. 👊🏻
The silhouette of the Ford Capri is pure, unabated brilliance.
And fair play to my neighbour for motoring his way through January without a care in the world. 👊🏻
The terrible, terrible Escort is in for some new tyres tomorrow. Despite the previous owner’s claims of the tyres being good - 1 is the wrong size and the newest is 20 years old.
Bonus old pumps and Ford content...
