Yesterday was *the* Ramsdale game, summed up his entire time at the club in 90 minutes. Incredible reaction saves and moments of long-ball brilliance, undercut with a needless mistake and a core mismatch of possessional style. All of his own making. Box office keeper.

True or not, don't think doing wage chatter for a 16 y/o is at all good or fair. His reasons could, very fairly, be regarding pathways and development, but this is a cheap way to reframe *a child* as a money grabber, and likely change the way certain fans interact with him

NEW SEASON, NEW RULES🧵 PGMOL announced they're binning off blocking, saving the PL from the set-piece scuffles that nearly defined last season. But who stands to benefit most from this, who gets nerfed? Using my preview series, here's a healthy thread for exactly that (1/?)

Adapting successfully tends to make people forget the qualities players bring us. Don’t think losing our reliable line-breaker with Timber post-ACL + a 33 y/o J20 is a wise move. Our tactic works well now, but Arteta wants us always adapting, so why remove the safety system

Kiwior is once again an utter liability against a confident dribbler, no flexibility. A clear counter argument to the 4 CB solution

Be careful which niche you pick guys. All these OOP/IP nerds are loving this game meanwhile I'm getting genuinely irritated there's not been a corner yet

UH-OH: AFC, EFC - AFC could be *seriously* cooked. Even in the friendly vs Lyon they scored 1 with a questionable GK push. There's ways around it (using the defender to block the GK rather than you, see Goal 1 vs Lyon, longer runs), but this was a core play for Jover. (2/)

Every Brentford game I've watched they do something astonishingly stupid. How are you getting countered like *that* in the 34th, after all the pressure you've had, off *your* FK?

Feel it’d be fun to start putting my neck on the line more + using my set-piece watches a bit more regularly, so each week I’ll be doing a bit of a preview for the game – looking at what we did last time, what we’re doing recently, and what to expect – starting with Burnley A 🧵

I see James' point here but judging set-piece scoring levels from the COVID year (which I assume is happening? 237 from 186) isn't ideal. % of goals scored from set-pieces was actually down last year comp. to usual on my calcs from whoscored. Rule feels a bit too 'scared' for me

The PGMOL have a point when it comes to keeping an eye on holding, blocking. This is just an individual referee error. There's been a 25% increase in goals from non-penalty set pieces in 4 years and I don't think the sport is improved if dead balls grow in prominence.

Sitting on a 2 goal lead with a mostly backup XI instead of chasing goal difference against a team that relishes the transition as much as Luton is a freedom you earn yourself by smacking teams for 4+ every week for 2 months. Absolutely no problems with it, sign of maturity.

The levels between this Fabio return from injury and this Partey one have been stark. Lost all control and threat since Rice and J20 came off, jarring honestly

Lovely thread, and the volume of the set-piece qs has me returning to something I've been thinking about recently, about how SPs are becoming increasingly purchasable tactical space for elite sides, and what the means for the PL more generally (1/?)

I've had the chance to have a sit down and think about next season before I take a couple of weeks off and I think that the Prem. League is really nicely poised to be very fun next seasons. Here are some of the Qs I think will be fun to keep in mind as the season unfolds [thread]

12/ Overall: Mazraoui 'to blame', but this is basically the result of a new squad and a new system. There are hints of quality in this department during the game, and imo this isn't a repeatable issue - unless Georgson isn't allowed to coach again, but that's a different issue
