WWWWWWWWDWWLWWWWW
(That’s our 2024 form, not a village in Wales.)
A 103-point pace.
We’re just up against a petrostate-sponsored outlaw that flouted FFP/PSR to build a behemoth THAT WE HAVE MANAGED TO PULL EVEN WITH.
A title is in our future. Best is yet to come.
+62 GD for both clubs. 2 points - the difference between a win and a draw in one match.
That’s the daylight between City and Arsenal right now.
And we had the 3rd youngest team in the PL.
We’re at the BEGINNING of our window.
We add. We grow. We go again.
No international play this summer:
Ødegaard, White, Jesus, Tomiyasu, Timber, Partey, Smith Rowe, Vieira, Nelson, Nketiah
Not likely to log heavy minutes this summer:
Gabriel, Martinelli, Zinchenko, Kiwior
December 2019: Arsenal in 15th, Emery sacked, Arteta hired
Summer ’20: finish 8th, win FA Cup
Spring ’21: finish 8th
Spring ’22: finish 5th, 2 points off top 4, return to Europa
Spring ’23: finish 2nd, return to CL
Today: Made CL QF, 2 pts off PL top w/ 6 to play, best GD

Listening to Arsecast Extra this morning while driving. Pulled into McDonald’s drive-thru to pick up breakfast, girl working there hears
@arseblog
and
@gunnerblog
, hands me my Egg McMuffin, smiles, and says “Goodly morning!”
She was cute, too. Could’ve married her on the spot.
Arsenal spent £27M on an 18 y/o CB and waited for him for 3 years. Nothing lucky about that. They got him for less because they moved aggressively for him FIRST.
Saka and Foden are both academy products.
“Lucky” is having state sponsorship and bribing your way past FFP charges.
Let me re-frame this:
Arteta took over a club in free fall midway through 2019/20, and in his 4 full seasons as manager…
2020/21: 8th/61 pts/+16 GD
2021/22: 5th/69 pts/+13
2022/23: 2nd/84 pts/+45
2023/24: 2nd (alive for title into final Sunday)/likely 89 pts/currently +61
£21M + add-ons potentially getting to £27M for Trossard is fine if it gives us the depth we need to win the league. We now have 5 functioning forwards until Jesus is resurrected. 6 when Nelson returns.

My first instinct is to take any accusation seriously, but to reserve judgement until more facts are known, and hope justice is served.
There’s no virtue in thinking we know things we don’t.
Get Camavinga in here and win the league and we’ll need to put an Edu statue outside the Emirates. Preferably of him holding tongs standing in front of a BBQ grill.
@Mhumm101
@Faaabianskiii
We’re due a result against them, and right now we’re in a real good place in terms of the confluence of belief and defiance/having something to prove.
This is a match where the mentality of guys like Jesus, who have won the PL, really comes to the fore.
Cue the people who dismissed half a season as a relevant metric on the state of the project now saying that three matches into this season is absolutely definitive.
@gunnerpunner
Was it really that contrived? Dunford wrote & recorded the song, everyone loved it, the club noticed it, fans started singing it in the ground… isn’t that exactly how these things come about?
I have been moving the pieces around on Arsenal’s squad, trying to triangulate what’s next and make estimates on playing time at each position based on Arsenal playing 55 total matches (5000 minutes per position.)
A thread.
Summer work load will depend on whether they start and/or how far their countries advance:
Saliba, Trossard, Jorginho
Likely to start for their countries, play into July, not start the season for Arsenal:
Saka, Rice, Havertz
@oh_that_crab
I really don’t trust goalkeeping metrics, by and large.
And I know I rarely found myself thinking “Ramsdale should have done better with that.”
@PoznanInMyPants
@arseblog
United had no incomings and Greenwood is going to prison.
West Ham had no incomings.
Tottenham swapped out some of their backups for Juve backups.
Wolves lost Traore.
Not much to buy that will help a top 6 PL club in January.
Our outgoings were all guys not playing.
@adamvoge
I just read his comments and was like, people are making a thing out of this?
What I took from it is: the loan has been good and he’s game for a new contract if Arsenal see him as integral to the project.
Partey has to come off at halftime. He has looked labored off the ball and he is on a yellow card. Either put in Jorginho, or put in Jesus and move Havertz and Rice each back one.
Listening to
@ArsenalVPodcast
, and
@PoznanInMyPants
hasn’t said a word in a half hour.
90 second left and he jumps in with;
“I was happier when we were in 8th.”
He is undoubtedly the Ben White of the pod.
Arsenal’s 5 remaining PL fixtures before the World Cup are at Chelsea and against the teams currently at 14, 17, 18 and 19 in the table.
If that’s a loss at Stamford Bridge and 4 wins… that would put Arsenal +14 pts against the same fixtures last season. Pacing for 83.
Partey’s last 3 seasons at Atletico, he averaged 3256’ in all comps. Not a Rodri-level workhorse, but solid, consistent starters’ minutes.
You can’t say we should’ve known that he would average 2303 - almost 1000 fewer -in his first 3 years here (and almost nothing in year 4.)
@Matt5cott
@LeGrove
Don’t agree with this at all. Tomiyasu looks ticketed for right back, but has versatility - like Saliba and White.
Everyone continues to look for ways to write Saliba out of the plans, and it’s all pretty myopic.
@oh_that_crab
I have a feeling this might be a way for KSE to shift a little bit of cashflow from North London to help out the Rapids, like how Man City bought Mix Diskerud from NYCFC to get his contract off their books.
@ltarsenal
@ZRAFC
@iamrahmanosman
I think it’s more like: there is a certain level of indiscipline you can tolerate from a guy who is competing for the Golden Boot every year - and Auba was known for that. But once he stops scoring like that… you have no reason to put up with him any longer.
@Shamsdale
No kidding. There’s no argument that he thought he was going for the ball - Saka kicked it with his other foot, well away from where MacArthur kicked him. And MacArthur was looking right where he kicked.
This is why VAR needs to be a challenge system. MAKE them look at it.
@ltarsenal
Did he fumble Aouar or were Lyon simply not moving off an asking price we couldn’t afford?
Did he fumble Buendia or did we just not value him at the nearly £40M package Villa were willing to pay?
Sometimes you just get unlucky. Partey was a great player whose body gave out at exactly the wrong time for us: right as he was hitting his would-be mid-prime.
Declan Rice is compelling because he could play both the Partey and Xhaka position. And with CL football and likely 55-ish matches on tap next season, there should be 35 starts in all comps for all 3. Vieira remains the Ødegaard deputy, with Smith Rowe an option if needed.
@VipArsenal
@afcjxmes
It will also be driven by actually getting the 3 against Leicester. If you don’t… you have to go for it against Liverpool. Critical to win the next two against Watford & Leicester so rotation is an option.
@GoonerViews
Partey has now joined Tierney on one “once if a fluke, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern” standard; muscle injuries costing him time three straight seasons. Means you need to get not cover but a genuine alternative.
Did he not take care of himself? Or is he just a thickly built guy with a lot of muscle to pull from dragging all that mass around? Who can say.
But he was a brilliant talent who simply was never available enough to justify the investment of over £100M in transfer fee and wages.
@JECook96
@laurielaker
The away is the only one I have a real problem with. And if they just took those black and white inserts out, that would be a clean look.
@EduardoHagn
@ZRAFC
@MirrorFootball
Still feel like Arsenal RCB interest is going to make my head explode.
Because if it’s legit, it’s obvious Arteta has no short-term use for Saliba.
OK, had to just mute Jessica Black. That combination of arrogance and just being disgruntled 90% of the time… too much. And she keeps showing up on my timeline because others follow her. Enough.
@TheFalseNein
Yep. I’ve been on this one for a while. Most of us had written Eddie off, but some are having more trouble than other updating their priors on him.
@ltarsenal
I think people are making too much of this. He clearly has been told he won’t be offered a contract, a reporter asked about his next club… he’s free to answer honestly. I’m sure he he didn’t say anything he hasn’t said to his friends within the club, too.
@scottjwillis
His brother, Quinten, is, but not him.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen Jurrien get some minutes in his legs and build up form after missing the whole season.
@now_arsenaI
He’s 100% right. The foundation was crumbling going all the way back to Wenger. Stocks of younger talent were not replenished. World class players left/aged out and were not replaced. Left a job that was going to take multiple summers to fix. Been saying this for 1-2 years now.
And old friend has brain cancer and is in his final days.
One of my closest friend’s mother had a stroke this week.
I myself have had a succession of things go wrong and have some pretty harsh trials ahead.
Found myself thinking about a line in “North London Forever” today…
@YankeeGunner
@7amkickoff
By the same token; a good team like Arsenal being so in the red on both can’t be explained without some implicit bias, either.
@clivepafc
That’s an awfully specific lie - saying that Edu called him to tell him White doesn’t want to be picked.
If that’s not true, Edu would surely dispute it.
How many times does this have to happen at Old Trafford before the
@FA_PGMOL
acknowledges that result-altering mistakes in United’s favor are a feature, not a bug, of PL refereeing?
@YankeeGunner
But… the initial pressure doesn’t come from the DM. It comes from higher up the pitch.
We’ve scored 14 and conceded 2 since Partey came back into the lineup.
And the 2 were the Raya error and Rice kicking a guy in the nuts.
Arsenal have basically gotten to where they are without Smith Rowe and Elneny, and for half the time without Zinchenko.
Those three are going to be like new signings. Add another winger and the depth should be sufficient for a top 4/title chase.
@HenryBushnell
Except… she’s not.
Polling consistently shows that more WOMEN are anti-abortion than men. This isn’t men vs. women. More women are celebrating this ruling than men.
If men were the only ones who had a say in this, abortion rights would never be threatened.
