I have launched my crowdfunder for my campaign to be re-elected as the local MSP for Dumbarton. I am proud to stand up for local people, fighting for issues that matter to our community over the last 22 years. Any donation however small is much appreciated
The First Minister is not telling the truth. I sat on the parliamentary committee considering the national energy company and the SNP abandoned their pledge in 2018, long before anyone knew about covid.
Nicola Sturgeon caught lying about why she broke her promise to set up a publicly owned energy company. Scotland deserves better than the lies, conceit and deceit of
#SleekitSturgeon
A huge thank you to everyone who voted for me in Dumbarton Constituency - all 17,825 of you. The highest number of voters and biggest vote share for Labour in the seat ever. I am proud to serve the community in which I live and I won’t let you down
#SP21
@ScottishLabour
But you should have known. You were health secretary when c.diff rampaged through hospitals and care homes as a result of people being discharged without being tested. It was a mistake you could have avoided if you had learnt lessons from over 10 years ago.
What I said is that with the benefit of knowledge we have now (but did not have then), it was a mistake. But too many people in care homes died and we must be candid about that. I hope the other UK govts will join me in committing to a full public inquiry starting later this year
I have written to the Crown Office today to ask them to investigate whether Peter Murrell made a false statement under oath to the Committee under section 44 (1) of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995
What kind of country have we become under the SNP government that we are refusing to treat people who have cancer for a second time instead sending them to England for treatment.
#BBCLeadersDebate
Extraordinary and appalling behaviour to target the victim. Ian Blackford really does need to go. And why did Nicola Sturgeon do nothing when she knew about these allegations for years?
As No10 went into meltdown today, SNP has been busy behind the scenes... threatening the victim (a party staffer) of sex pest MP Patrick Grady with misconduct action & having his work email account locked after he sent an email to MPs/staff criticising SNP response to the scandal
Money meant to help struggling businesses during covid has been diverted by the SNP to fund pre-election giveaways. And because it’s one off funding, it’s not in the budget for the future, so all those giveaways may have to be cut. Scotland deserves better than this.
I don’t usually make predictions but….
I don’t think Humza Yousaf will make it to the vote of no confidence on Wednesday.
He will resign before that as he cannot accept support from Alba and the Greens have made clear they won’t back him.
It’s over.
Peter Murrell, SNP Chief Executive and husband of the First Minister, in response to my question at Committee denied there were other text or what’s app messages. But there are.
#Marr
@BBCScotlandNews
@BBCNews
The SNP and the Greens have jettisoned their principles.
We have not.
We need real action to get this pandemic back under control, not rushed and half-baked plans.
First time in the history of the Scottish parliament that a section 23 order has been used to demand text messages and what’s app evidence from the Crown. Time to end the secrecy.
Which presumably means he won’t be the
@theSNP
candidate at the general election as they are selecting very soon. But the key question for me is that
@NicolaSturgeon
has known about this for more than 4 years, why has no action been taken before.
Scotland’s deficit has grown to over £15bn last year. That’s three and a half times bigger than the U.K. and this is before covid is accounted for. It is clear that separation will lead to breathtaking levels of austerity in Scotland.
#GERS
No key note speech from the Cab Sec for Health at SNP conference. Has
@HumzaYousaf
been put under special measures? What about the 1 in 7 Scots on waiting lists, the excess deaths and long waits at A&E? Instead we get Indy as a distraction from the real issues.
#shameful
So Nicola Sturgeon said zero tolerance for inappropriate sexual behaviour but Ian Blackford cheers him on. Such hypocrisy from the SNP. Ian Blackford needs to stand aside and Patrick Grady needs to resign his seat.
So the SNP promised a state energy company in 2017. 5 years later - nothing has happened because it is apparently too difficult as they don’t have the power. Yet Wales have managed it. Another SNP failure.
Fourth meeting of the Harassment Committee this week to consider our report. It is exhausting but we are determined to complete and publish before parliament rises.
So the SNP and Greens have sold out social care workers in the budget. A derisory 48p increase for those who care for our loved ones. The Greens promised £15 per hour for social care workers in their manifesto - clearly ministerial office matters more than principles.
Disappointing that John Swinney could not answer the key questions I put to him - When will the inquiry start? When will families be seen in person? When it will report and how much it’s going to cost now? The lack of transparency with the SNP continues.
The findings of the Cass Review must be implemented in Scotland.
This is important for staff, the young people with gender dysphoria & their families.
The SNP Gov’t must be transparent & give a statement about implementation of the Cass review & the use of puberty blockers.
Two children died in the Queen Elizabeth University hospital from contaminated water, that the SNP were warned about, but went ahead and opened the hospital anyway. Surely 4 years on their parents deserve answers
#STVDebate
The number of people waiting at A&E for over 8 hours is the highest on record, despite fewer people attending. The staff are on their knees and we haven’t even got to winter yet. In the meantime where is
@HumzaYousaf
?
Fantasy economics from the SNP. Pensions will be Scotland’s responsibility if we are an independent country and SNP have no idea how they will pay for it.
Sad news about Prince Philip and deepest condolences to HRH Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family. All Labour Party campaigning suspended out of respect.
I have never been so angry. This leaflet is being put through letter boxes in Dumbarton. It is blatantly racist. Make no mistake this is a deliberate attack on Gurpreet Singh Johal, someone I am proud to call my friend, and the Labour candidate in the council elections 1/3
Today
@AnasSarwar
asked the First Minster about a health scandal at Scotland’s biggest hospital.
Humza Yousaf’s response was to say I know children died, and in the next breath he said that the SNP won the election.
Disgraceful doesn’t begin to cover it.
Busy afternoon ahead at Committee. Considering the botched handling of harassment complaints by the Scottish Government. Evidence from Alex Salmond today and Nicola Sturgeon on Wednesday. You can watch on the parliament website.
This leaflet from my SNP opponent appeared yesterday but the Helensburgh & Lomond version is different. Does he not want people in Helensburgh & Lomond to know how close the election is in case they vote for me to stop the SNP and independence? 🤷♀️
Listening to Blair Jenkins on
@BBCScotNine
reminded me of a Glasgow Uni debate during the referendum where members of his staff hurled abuse at me and tried to shout me down. He was there and did nothing to stop it. 2014 was not a civic and joyous event. A lapse in memory Blair?
A conversation between senior Scottish Government officials is shown to
@covidinquiryuk
in which Prof Jason Leitch says: ‘WhatsApps deletion is a pre-bed ritual’
Staff are stretched to the limit. This is dangerous and a huge risk to patient safety.
@HumzaYousaf
has been warned time and time again but fails to act. He clearly is incapable of managing this crisis.
Confusion on SNP currency plan - Nicola Sturgeon says just use the pound which leaves control with the Bank of England and the UK government or we could do what Emma Harper suggests and just use our credit cards because it doesn’t matter 😂
Can’t believe John Swinney’s performance on
#bbcqt
- he has been at the heart of the SNP govt for 16 years; he is the architect of austerity in Scotland; he is responsible for much of the division in Scottish politics. And he created a culture of secrecy in govt.
#VoteScotLab24
Peter Murrell’s resignation is long overdue. But if this is the state of the party with senior members fighting like ferrets in a sack, just imagine what’s going on in government.
The people of Scotland need transparency and accountability. They deserve better than this.
Sending deepest condolences to Walter’s wife, family and friends. As well as managing Rangers & Scotland, he also played for our local team Dumbarton FC. Walter was a giant in the football world & his legacy will live on, inspiring generations of football fans for years to come
Alex Salmond crowdfunding his court challenge of the SNP Government is a disgrace. Saying it’s about independence is rubbish. This is simply about distracting attention from the allegations of sexual harassment. It is an abuse of power and our politics should be better than this.
Useless
@HumzaYousaf
failed at health, failed at justice, failed at transport. He cannot be allowed to continue to fail upwards. Scotland deserves better than this out of touch minister who is so badly out of his depth
A vote for me on Thursday 6th May is a vote for a local candidate who will always put the needs of our community first.
Polls open 7am-10pm, find your polling station at
Scotland is living through a national emergency when it comes to cancer treatment. The 62 day treatment target has been missed consistently since the end of 2012. This is indefensible and urgent action must be taken by
@scotgov
to tackle this crisis.
The latest record-breaking achievements of the SNP Health Secretary:
🚨Worst A&E stats on record.
⬆️Highest ever delayed discharge.
⬆️Soaring waiting lists.
BREAKING: Our NHS.
NEW SNP leadership candidate Humza Yousaf just jokingly asked a group of Ukrainian women in Edinburgh “where are all the men?” There was polite and awkward laughter before they explained that many of their partners had stayed in Ukraine to fight in the war.
Surprised you are not aware of the power of the Scottish Parliament to create new benefits. We can create a fund to pay for tv licences for the over 75s or that can be used tor digital connections to keep in touch with loved ones. All about using the powers of the parliament.
This letter was sent to me by a vulnerable older person in Dumbarton who is absolutely livid at the deception.
Scottish Labour cannot restore free TV licences to over 75s. Reprehensible.
#ChangeforDumbarton
This letter from the UK Statistics Authority reveals they have had to write to the Scottish Government over misleading data on NHS waiting times.
Once again
@HumzaYousaf
and the SNP are relying on misinformation and spin to mask their failures.
Not content with just diverting covid money away from business we now see SNP branches claiming covid grants. Those businesses who are struggling or got no help at all will find this hard to believe.
Lady Poole resigned from the
#Covid
Inquiry this week but the Deputy First Minister failed to mention that other senior counsel have also resigned. I have called for an urgent statement in
@ScotParl
this week to establish what has gone wrong
Back in my office having been sworn in as the MSP for Dumbarton. Proud to serve the constituency in which I live. And fantastic to see so many new colleagues.
#SP2021
@ScottishLabour
The First Minister is the leader of the Scottish Government and the leader of the SNP - she can tell them to hand over material to the Committee. If she won’t do it, then it is clear that her government and her party have something to hide.
#FMQs
This year's GERS figures tell a story about the state of Scotland's economy—flagging before the pandemic and made worse by it.
Fundamentally, however, the report exposes the dangers of independence whilst demonstrating how, by £1800 per person, Scots are better off in the UK.
Excellent thread on confusion at the heart of the SNP over pensions. They used to say that pensions were entirely Scotland’s responsibility after independence, now it seems they don’t know. Anxious and uncertain times ahead for pensioners as SNP can’t answer basic questions.
Our NHS is on its knees.
@HumzaYousaf
has presided over the worst waiting times on record and health experts warn of a real crisis this winter. He needs to listen and act. If he is unable to take decisive action and prevent needless deaths, then he must resign
The plot continues to thicken. That the SNP did not come clean about this for months stinks to high heavens. It is deeply worrying if they have been unable to replace the auditors in all this time. It is time for the secrecy to end.
NEW: Humza Yousaf says the SNP's auditors resigned "around about October" last year, with no replacement yet brought in.
He tells journalists: "It's certainly problematic, I won't deny that at all."
Time to separate the role of the Lord Advocate. Our most senior law officer must be independent and should no longer be a minister in the Scottish Government, bound by the ministerial code. It’s time for change.
Worst ever A&E stats on record and we are not yet at winter. Lives are being lost as a result. Staff are working really hard but
@HumzaYousaf
has let them down. He has been warned time and again but has not taken effective action.
Faced with an NHS in crisis and the greatest threat to public health in recent history, the First Minister and the SNP simply put their fingers in their ears and deny all responsibility.
“The people of Scotland deserve so much better.
#Marr
It’s clear even Nicola Sturgeon is fed up of listening to incompetent
@HumzaYousaf
trying to defend his indefensible record on health. He is not fit to run the NHS and certainly not fit to run Scotland
4 weeks and still waiting for a reply from the First Minister
@NicolaSturgeon
about vaccine wastage. We know they count the wastage so why is it so hard to get an answer?
No meaningful attempt has been made by
@HumzaYousaf
to sort out the perpetual crisis in our A&E despite repeated warnings.
@theSNP
are distracted by the constitution while our dedicated health staff and NHS are on their knees.
Both John Swinney and Nicola Sturgeon have deserted the sinking ship. None of the SNP leadership contenders are up to the job and continuity certainly doesn’t cut it. Time for a change of government. Scotland deserves better
Delighted to speak with
@wesstreeting
today about the challenges facing the NHS in Scotland. I look forward to working closely with him to the benefit of patients and staff.
Following this morning’s Cabinet meeting, I held calls with Health Ministers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and
@jackiebmsp
.
A Labour government in Westminster will be a rising tide that lifts all ships and we’ll work constructively with devolved administrations.
Humza Yousaf promised his government would retain and hand over any correspondence the Covid inquiries requested.
This wasn’t true.
My letter to the First Minister 👇
Totally unacceptable that women are having to wait up to 7 months for vital cancer tests - a dire consequence of the SNP's negligent handling of our NHS.
Scotland deserves better.
Read:
The SNP knew about the increased risk to Glasgow from the delta variant for 7 days before telling the public.
Instead of decisive action to ramp up testing and vaccinations, they sat on their hands - prolonging Glasgow’s lockdown through inaction.
It’s official! Delighted to be on the ballot and running for election in my local community. Surprised to be the only woman on the ballot paper but hope that you will re-elect me so that I can be Dumbarton’s woman in the parliament
#SP21
The SNP time and again choose secrecy and cover-up over transparency and scrutiny.
Even Westminster parliamentary committees have more powers than Holyrood to hold government to account.
We need change, without delay:
Ambulance services are in crisis due to the SNP's failure to support frontline workers and paramedics.
Humza Yousaf should focus on fixing the problem rather than shaming Scots who are fearing for their health.
Following my exchange with the FM today, I have written seeking clarity on a number of issues. Vaccinators cannot be left in the dark when it comes to the rollout of the vaccine. Huge thanks for the vital work that they are doing to protect us and save lives. Read my letter below
Very disappointing that none of the Scottish Government’s 27 Ministers were available this morning. It is important that their decisions are explained.
No one has any issue with a vigorous debate. It’s important.
But for Humza Yousaf to repeatedly refer to his opponents as ‘traitors’ at a time when our politics is so toxic and divided is unacceptable.
He demeans the office of First Minister.
According to industry experts Labour's plans risk 100,000 jobs.
The SNP supports a windfall tax, but Labour's raid on the North East would cost jobs in order to pay for more nuclear power plants in England.
Sarwar stands up for Starmer, while
@theSNP
will stand up for Scotland.
Instead of supporting the victim, who was subject to Patrick Grady’s inappropriate sexual behaviour, the SNP whip threatens their MPs. They never learn.
This is beyond depressing. Where is the outward looking welcoming country? This is not joyous or civic nationalism. This is xenophobia. Scotland we can do better than this.
The numbers waiting for treatment are up, A&E waits are the worst on record and yet
@scotgov
are trying to reheat a £50m announcement from June as if it is new money.
@HumzaYousaf
is posted missing while the
#NHS
is on its knees. Staff deserve support not SNP neglect.
Spot on. The FM said that all 40-49 year olds would be fully vaccinated by today. At 76% they have missed their target. Many of those missed have had their 1st dose and but not their 2nd. Some have waited more than 8 weeks. So there was a target and it was missed. That’s a fact.
June 22, Nicola Sturgeon, Scottish Parliament: “By 26 July, we expect to have given second doses to all 40 to 49-year-olds"
Note, FM said "given" not "offered"
Source:
July 26 (today), Public Health Scotland: 76.6% of 40-49s have been *given* 2 doses
The transfer of thousands of untested patients into care homes in England has been deemed unlawful. Ministers in Scotland must be held to account and lessons learned from the decisions made here.
It’s right that Michael Matheson has coughed up to cover his huge data bill of almost £11,000 rather than placing the burden on taxpayers, but it shouldn’t have been such a saga.
This is an arrogant and failing government that is out of touch with Scots.
It’s time for change.
