Q: “Dad, what side of history were you on?”
A: “The side that put on balaclavas and attacked women of my mother’s age in front of a statue of the leader of the suffragettes and taught them a lesson in what feminism was all about. Women need to be put in their place, son.”
I’ve always felt uncomfortable with the whole preferred pronoun thing because I want to be kind but the reality is, that as soon as you call a man a ‘she’ you’re on the slippery slope to where we are now. A man can’t be a woman.
So, I recall asking SNP HQ if man charged with threats against
@joannaccherry
was a member & told no. I asked subtle supplementary - was he at time of threats. Got angry diatribe, about how dare I question press officer’s integrity & veracity blah, blah…
Reader, he was a member.

Seriously, can we all calm down about Christmas? It’s one day. A vaccine is in clear sight and I for one can wait a bit longer to spend time with my family when it’s safe and we can then celebrate having many more Christmases together Covid free.
Sorry, but in what sense is Scotland the best place for a child to grow up in when a rapist gets 270 hours of community service for raping a 13-year-old girl because of new sentencing guidelines which take into account the brain development of a predator under the age of 25?
I have always respected & liked Catherine Calderwood but seriously, on her advice, I haven’t visited my elderly mother who is housebound, on her own & lives an hour and a half from Edinburgh, but then she’s a person, not a second home.

There is no doubt that not understanding the impact of the gender recognition reforms, has now brought down two SNP first ministers, it's entirely reasonable for the candidates this time around to spell out exactly where they stand on Cass & other areas of concern.
Birthing bodies have the right to freedom.
Deciding if or when to become a parent is one of the most personal, life-changing decisions. Access to abortion & reproductive care is a decision we must trust each person to make based on what’s best for their health & their future.
Obviously my sympathy is with Prince Charles for testing + to the virus, but he ignored travel advice, came to Scotland, & been able to get a test. My friend, a nurse, has the symptoms & is waiting for test to confirm one way or another so she can get back on wards to do her job.
A rape crisis centre that doesn't believe in sex, a party [that was in government] that expels members for saying sex exists, children told they can change sex & given untested drugs to stop puberty, what does it take for people to wake up to what's happening here?
I won’t forget easily how a particular Scottish MP told me that the use of puberty blockers were completely safe and reversible and that that is where our apparently good relationship just ended simply because I questioned that premise!
Still puzzled as to what the FM was referring to when he said he wasn't "prepared to trade his values & principles simply to retain power" when what Ash Regan was asking for was "protecting the dignity, safety & rights of women & children, & providing a competent government".
To politicians who told me ‘I’m not going there’ or were glad to be leaving politics before it became an issue, & who didn’t stand with worried women, this has arguably helped take down 2 first ministers, tarnished a 3rd & now threatens the next PM. Women are not a fringe issue!

Scotland Committee – the UK’s statutory regulator of Equality Act 2010. It's never been more important to ensure equality & human rights match in practice, the legal intent, so everyone can live life fully, & without fear of discrimination.
And maybe at some point there’ll berecognition from Scottish Government that it was complicit in creating a hostile environment where women, raising questions about whether there could be consequences for women of rights/laws competing with each other, were labelled transphobic.
Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: “I have decided to make an order under section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998, preventing the Scottish Parliament’s Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill from proceeding to Royal Assent."
Quite ‘sinister’ how certain men are so keen to dismiss the important legal win by a black, lesbian, working class, feminist, about discrimination by her employer for holding beliefs about the reality of biological sex. I wonder why that is?
When
@NicolaSturgeon
, said "we want Scotland to be an open welcoming country for all" I understand that one of the new Tory MSPs, Tess White, shouted "except if you're English". That's what got the FM so angry and she will take up with the PO.

Alex Salmond in reply to
@jackiebmsp
about whether having been a first minister himself, would it be a breach of the ministerial code to continue with a legal case when you know the legal advise is that you are going to lose, "yes".
There’s a real danger of the SNP showing it’s really nasty side about colleagues that the party was urging the electorate to vote for not so many months ago. Might be advised to reel it back a bit.
@KennyFarq
@thetimes
Such a bad take IMO, Kenny, I’d love to know what is progressive about the two former first ministers you’re celebrating advocating the idea that a man could become a woman by declaring it to be so. Neither do I believe that water can be turned into wine btw.
“The first minister said she would argue “until my dying breath” that there was no conflict between women’s rights and trans rights.” Problem being, that so far, the FM hasn’t actually argued that case other than dismiss women’s concerns as ‘not valid’.
It hasn't been a day since the US Supreme Court had moved to remove a basic human right for 40% of American women, and gender critics are instead using it to criticise trans rights.
What the hell is actually wrong with these people?
Today is not about what Alex Salmond did or didn’t do, it is about what he claims the Scottish Government, Nicola Sturgeon, and her advisors, did or didn’t do. That is what the remit of the committee is.
#SalmondInquiry
What does
@ScotParl
think it says about women when it excludes women from wearing a scarf in suffragette colours? How do you think women ever got to vote in the first place? Bonkers.
BREAKING: First Minister Humza Yousaf has said it's a "dark day for devolution" after a court ruled the UK Government had acted lawfully to block gender reform.
Re: Nicola Sturgeon's claim that during a private conversation at COP26, Liz Truss pressed her on how to get a glossy spread in Vogue (FM's done 2) is perhaps a warning for women leaders not to have private conversations with Nicola Sturgeon, she has form!
Today's court decision does not roll back on any rights that trans gender people currently have but it does recognise that the notion of legal self ID would impact women's rights. That's important.
I am constantly asked by MSPs/MPs of other parties why a woman like
@joannaccherry
appears to get so little support from her own party. I can’t answer, I wish I could.
Sorry to see
@joannaccherry
lose her seat, she has been a voice of sense, intellect and reason in a party that didn’t want to listen to what she had to say.

Fergus Ewing was suspended from the SNP just for voting in support of a 'no confidence' motion in the Green minister and now the FM has sacked the Green minister...
As gender ideology comes up against the law, health provision and sport, legitimate questions continue to be raised and yet in Scotland, "no valid concerns".
Imagine being the kind of man that is ill, that straps your young kid into the car with you, drives four and a half hours, breathing out your germs all the way, and then goes to see parents that are over 70. What kind of man is that?
Anyone that sees
@JohannLamont
as being full of hate for speaking with passion for why it is wrong to not include women in the hate crime bill, needs to question their definition of 'hate'.
Women's rights over their own bodies are literally being snatched from them in the US and you don't see the connection with men in balaclavas screaming at feminists in the UK to go home and look after their children?

The insistence on 'trans women are women' mantra was a genius campaigning tactic which relied on kindness, a lack of intellectual curiosity & fear of being called a bigot. Politicians helped oil the wheels of that very successful lobbying campaign which has done untold damage.
You couldn’t make it up, the leaker of the meeting is threatened with the polis but full support for the MP found guilty by the parliamentary authorities over sexual misconduct complaint. Remind me of the definition of zero tolerance?
“The Scottish Government could find itself on the wrong side of history as the gender ideology that has so perfectly entranced politicians and celebrities alike comes up wanting when tested against the law, health provision and fact.”
As committee breaks for lunch, fair to say that if we are comparing Sturgeon's appearance with Salmond's, both reminded us of their considerable political abilities & what is lost by that partnership but his grasp of recall & detail seemed better than hers has been so far today.
Alex Salmond describes the messages that he has seen but have not been released are "extraordinary" and "the most shocking thing I have ever seen in my life"

Not sure about Scot Gov ministers tweeting pics everytime they bump into a current or former politician from another country. Does it make them look like fan boys and girls? Should we be so in awe? Does it make us look small? Should it make the front page of a national newspaper?
The issue isn't about individual party membership numbers & whether one party has more members than another or publishes those numbers or not, the issue was about lying about numbers and very clearly & publicly ridiculing a journalist that reported a drop in numbers correctly.
I don’t have a view on his views, but what are the odds of being picked numerous times to be in
@bbcquestiontime
audience & then to be picked to ask an actual question & then to picked to be tweeted by the actual show itself?

needs is men with these stupid red targets in their twitter handles attacking a woman in their own party who did more for equality by standing up as the first female politician to present a budget in the UK, than they have ever done. Party needs to get a grip.
One of the really wonderful things about this whole horrible ‘sex and gender’ debate is how it’s brought women back together who thought the battles had been won. And we love being reunited. We’re also quite powerful.
