I am proud to announce that I will be the new chief meteorologist at
@okcfoxweather
in Oklahoma City! While I'm very excited about this big career jump, it is bittersweet. I have loved calling
@WCIA3
home for the past 7 years. Thank you to the viewers and my fantastic coworkers!
The 3.8 magnitude earthquake from near Montezuma, IN would have been felt within this radius from the epicenter, or about 60-70 miles away.

Unfortunately, Monday is turning out to be one of THOSE days. Supercells will form along the dryline in the afternoon and potentially become a line of storms. Heavy rain, 80+ mph winds, up to SOFTBALL size hail, and 'multiple strong/potentially long-track tornadoes' -SPC.

Very thankful for
@WCIA3Adam
covering for me tonight! I haven't been able to celebrate Thanksgiving home in 7 years! Hope you had as nice of a gathering as I did!
Just wanted to let you know that if you're up early on the weekends and see me ANCHORING(!!) The Morning Show, your TV isn't messed up! I'll be filling in on a temporary basis and I'm excited to give the desk a try. Don't worry, I'm not leaving weather!
My little sister drove all the way from Minneapolis to surprise me and cheer me on for the
@ILMarathon
!!! Your cheering section will need a few layers, but it will be a sunny and beautiful day!! Run fast!!
The silver lining to no sports is that we won't be covering up anything important if we have to break in for severe weather Saturday. However, if I hear "Get him off, I'd rather watch the All-Natural Secret for Prostate Health" I'll quit my job 🤣🤣🤣

A big shout out to
@KevinLighty
and
@WCIA3Adam
for covering for me the weekend of a huge snowstorm. My grandma, Memaw, passed away earlier this week. It was a beautiful service for such a beautiful grandma!
I've been so busy lately with the move down to OKC, training with a new weather system, and just getting settled into a new area that I haven't posted much, but everything is good! Threw out the opening pitch (strike!) yesterday for the OKC Dodgers home game! GF & cats love OKC!
Saying goodbye to
@WCIA3Anthony
cuts like a knife, but like Bryan Adams would continue to sing, 'but it feels so right.' I'm sad to see you go, but man am I happy for you!! Richmond is lucky to have you, but I'm even better off because I have you as a friend ❤️
A big thank you to all the employees at
@NWSLincolnIL
,
@NWSChicago
, and
@NWSStLouis
for continuing to put out great forecasts during the partial government shutdown in this active weather pattern!
Woke up from my nap, but I'm OK! I dropped a little time, but I finished it and I'm not so sore! Thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who cheered, I know myself and all the runners needed it! Little windy, but I did alright on the weather!
@ILMarathon
There's no place like work for the holidays! It's actually not bad at all because I get to spend Christmas with these fine folks! ❤️ We will get back to work after enjoying a nice potluck. We'll see you at 10!
Karina and I broke in the new set this afternoon, we hope you like it, we have worked hard! I want to thank our camera operators, production staff, creative services, engineers, and the news team for all their hard work to bring it to life!

Taken from Taylorville by Robert Wolfe. Reports of people trapped in Taylorville, that possibly 100 buildings are destroyed.
@KevinLighty
is there and says it was hit HARD. Praying for all those involved.

The Mrs. knows what to do today. Don't forget to wear shoes and long pants when going to shelter. Act quickly when there is a warning, but go to your safe spot calmly. DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE PETS, our cat carriers are ready.

Image of what appears to be a funnel cloud/possible tornado (can't tell by image if it's on the ground) taken on Stone Bluff Rd east of Covington, IN. Sent to me by my former intern

All these storms recently have tired me out! I need a vacation! I'll be gone in Michigan for the next week. The weather was so active when Kevin was gone, maybe it was my fault this entire time 🤣
Continued comparison with Taylorville and Gifford tornadoes:
While 6 were injured in Gifford and 22 were in Taylorville, the best stat is that both had 0 fatalities.

Today marks the 24th anniversary of the 1999 Bridge Creek-Moore tornado. It's the last tornado to be rated an F5 on the original Fujita Scale. The radar signature of this tornado can be found in textbooks, icons for weather apps, and even the sides of U-Hauls.
We are now up to 12 confirmed tornadoes from Wednesday night. Damage surveys remain far from over, but we now have two preliminary EF-3s: Cole and south of Pink.

Today was
@AClaibonWx
's last day here at WCIA :( He is on his way to Washington state to continue giving the forecast! We'll miss you, you were truly a special coworker and you'll be a friend for life!!
I was today years old when I found out Cc stands for Carbon Copy and Bcc is Blind Carbon Copy and that the one who was Bcc'd can see the email and others don't know they received it.
Here are some pictures I took while out in Meadowbrook Park earlier this afternoon. Even though the ice has created many issues with travel and power, it also makes for a beautiful environment.

You may know me as a meteorologist, but you may not know I love to detail cars! I have an extensive article and video about how to safely clean and disinfect your car here:
We may be competitors on the weekends giving the forecast, but I just wanted to give a big congratulations to
@ThomasPatrickWx
on his next move to Spokane, WA. We go way back to Valparaiso University. Truly so proud of him and even more proud to call him my friend!!!!
Today is
#SafePlaceSelfie
Day! I'll stay at the chroma key until the absolute last second if a tornado was close to . However, my wife will have the challenge of getting our 3 cats wrangled up to head to the shelter! Know and practice your plan!

For some recent perspective, the Gifford tornado from Nov 17, 2013 was also an EF-3 as well as a 1/2 mile wide. Winds from the Taylorville tornado were 15 mph higher than Gifford, 155 mph vs. 140 mph, but the Gifford tornado was on the ground longer, 29.7 miles vs. 11.2 miles.
@CBSSports
Thank you Jim for being the voice behind so many memories. Your professionalism is the perfect soundtrack for any sporting event, and we've been lucky to have that all these years. The week from the NCAA Championship to The Masters is YOUR week. See you in Augusta!
#HelloFriends
The Taylorville tornado was rated an EF-3 with maximum winds of 155 mph. It was 1/2 mile wide and was on the ground for 11.2 miles. It started 3.8 miles east Morrisonville and ended 0.8 miles northwest of Taylorville.

You ever start cleaning, but then just keep going? I ended up deciding to mop the floor and had to rush and finish it before the Noon News! If you know me, you know I like to clean 🤣
Our engineers found a kitten in a drainage ditch in front of the station Monday afternoon. I took her to the vet this morning and besides being underweight, she's healthy! My Fiance and I are going to adopt this little girl and had some ideas for names!
The 1:00 AM update from the Storm Prediction Center keeps things about the same for Saturday, meaning the Moderate Risk is still there. We will continue to bring you updates on the severe weather threat throughout Saturday.
#cILwx
All modes of severe weather remain possible Monday afternoon and evening with 60-80 mph winds, hail of 2"+, and even an isolated tornado or two. Storms still expected to fire up west of I-35 and strengthen as they enter a more favorable environment east of I-35.
