I don’t understand the folks on this website who are like “I sold two companies for $1 billion each follow me for thoughtpiece advice and learn how you can too!”
My brother, no offense, if I sold two billion dollar companies I’d never darken the door of this website again.
@jack
Probably turning off the account with 50M followers that promotes the idea that immigrants are an infestation to America would be a reasonable start.
Today my friends and I are beyond happy to introduce the new Gowalla. We believe the time is right once again for a social app to connect us with our REAL friends in the REAL world.
While you grab it, let me tell you why this means so much to me

📏 Turns out
@figmadesign
is a great tool for decks and slides. Since I do most of my presentations in Figma now, I made a series of 16:9 layout grids you can import into your own projects. Here ya go!
✨ ANNOUNCEMENT: Three-ish years ago I took a quiet step back from startup life, moved out of the city, and started a low-key design practice with a focus on early-stage companies.
Today I have a portfolio site:
Just got an email from
@duolingo
with the subject “You made Duolingo sad”
I love Duolingo, but isn’t there enough going on in 2023 for us to not have to worry about the emotional well being of inanimate software?
Maybe dial it down a dozen, green cartoon owl.

Yesterday we announced that
@rampur
was a proud partner in making the first fully accessible gas station in Iceland.
The ground was elevated so the pumps are within reach. All tabletops inside the station were lowered and the bathroom made accessible.
Woop!
I love software. Love designing software. Love seeing it come to life. If you work in this industry it’s kinda a gift. Don’t take that for granted. Even in a wonky market.
About six weeks before this man was killed the same guys swatted my home, and left my family shaken to the core. It happened to others I know too. I'm so angry and sad.
So many dunking on the Bay Area and it’s supposed soullessness, but please, tell me another place in the lower 48 with more natural beauty within a 3 hour drive.
This place is damn magic.
One week into Covid shelter-in-place, my family were the victims of a swatting incident. 40 officers in full body armor with automatic weapons and five dogs arrived at my house.
County police. City police. CHP and the SWAT team.
I will be introducing an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to discontinue the program that transfers military weaponry to local police departments.
🧡 I’ve thought about this more than once during shelter-in-place. Would love to rebuild it again, especially in light of today’s technology once we’re able to fully venture out again.
One of my personal goals with
@gowalla
has always been to work with the most talented and creative people:
So I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have
@jessicahische
revisit the Gowalla logo for us. New letters for a new decade!
Excited to finally share this: We’re rolling out a new
@gowalla
website today to prepare for an app launch early next year. We want to make it easy and fun to keep up with your friends in the real world.

@RepMattSchaefer
You’re mad. And I hope Texans will put every last thought, prayer, action, and vote toward removing every bloodthirsty politician like you who mistakes the ownership of a weapon of war as a God-given right.
You’re sick.

🧡❤️💜 Last month we announced the launch of our Street Team app and a new round of funding led by GV and Spark Capital. Today
@piemonte
and I are thrilled to introduce five new crew members who have joined to make
@gowalla
a reality 0/👇

Are you a 🤔 curious, 👀 attentive, and 🙌 motivated junior or mid-level designer interested in growing your career? I am looking for a full-time Design Associate interested in branding and product design for early-stage companies. 1/
Yesterday my daughter told me her class had determined they could skirt the school’s content filtering by loading URLs through Google Slides.
Just got a text from the school to let me know that Chrome books have been collected until further notice.
😂
It has been a privilege to run design sprints for over 30 startups the past few years. I’m excited to be working with
@rsg
to bring these processes to a new generation of early-stage companies.
Post COVID, many people will chose to co-work with friends nearby, rather than return to their office full-time.
I suspect we’ll see the emergence of a new type of third-place that is more than a Starbucks, but less than a WeWork.
In the near future, more companies will have "work clubs" instead of offices: notably downsized studios where people work together in collaboration once or twice a week. The best companies will subsidize work-remotely solutions.
Having done the WFH off/on for years, some things:
- make your bed
- get dressed
- walk / run / ride before work
- afternoon break / walk / siesta
- “re-center” before dinner / family
And if you work after dinner:
- don’t work where you sleep

don't worry Eric, we have €9.99 fares next time you're in Europe
#Election2020
Anonymous neighbor left us note implying we’ve left our Biden/Harris sign up too long.
Guess what? Congratulations, it was going to come down on the 21st, but you just gave it a time extension! 🎉🇺🇸
I hope Reels was worth it, because after years of following interesting and creative artists, typographers, and illustrators,
@instagram
is cramming a bunch of barely clothed dancing “influencer” reels into my feed.
Super gross.
been thinking a lot about LA and its growing influence on tech (
@andrewchen
taps this in his latest newsletter as well). while Miami, Austin, and others are getting the hype, LA may ultimately be the biggest winner in this latest balkanization of creative startups

: Universal Heathcare would do more to encourage entrepreneurship and boost small businesses in America than any other government policy or incentive.
been thinking a lot about Tony Hsieh lately…
profoundly sad how his story ended, yet he inspired so many founders a decade ago… he delivered happiness, and that's something we should all aspire to do again
when this office was first opened the Hacker Way sign was often referenced as a metaphor as to what would happen to Facebook if it stopped innovating…a visceral reminder that you are always waiting to be replaced
I wonder how many who work in the newer buildings have seen this
@mgoldst
Design is work. And some days work is just work. And that’s okay. It’s an immensely rewarding trade if you stay curious and keep your chin up.
