Conor Shaugnessy is the only lg1 centre-back I can *categorically* say is a better ball-carrier/PnP/space invader/progressive runner than Connor Taylor. Taylor has a higher-ceiling, no doubt - but Shaugnessy is a huge asset for Portsmouth. will watch more of him when i can.

Taylor’s profiling of players is already noticeably better than Barton’s. Evans more advanced, occupying RHS - not disturbing Thomas’ zone of influence. Collins operating centrally in the LHS - allows Vale to hold width on left-wing. Subtle tweaks, extremely effective.

Chesterfield will pick up a real gem. I won’t get over the fact he was played at a makeshift LWB, terrible profiling. Stick him at LB and let him invert to a third CB or 6 in a double pivot. You then have a player that does not give the ball away and is a top circularly option.

MT decision to move Vale upfield to support Martin w/ 30 mins to play was a very good one.. it meant LT could return to his more natural wide-slot and Evans could fill that vacated space. Equally, allowed us to go man to man vs Ox when they moved to a 4-2-3-1 — aggregate press.

elkan baggott; his height makes his ceiling relatively low, respective to connor taylor, etc. but because of a slim upper-body, it makes his turning radius small, leading to better outcomes in 1v1 scenarios. also makes him mobile - quick across distances. akin to john stones.

no. seen enough in northampton, reading and carlisle games to categorically say the performances are not sustainable to get us where we want to. to be honest, i want Robinson in now. him or Taylor.

Surely got to give the job to Andy Mangan at least until the Summer. Ground out some results, kept the lid on any disappointment of Barton leaving and has the players on side. Bubbly likeable character and I'm not particularly arsed about having Robinson or Monk in charge!

Two ways of interpreting this comment re. Ruel Sotiriou, and that’s; a) he doesn’t score as many as he should - “he’s not prolific enough.” b) he gets himself into the goalscoring positions in the first place. 🔑 think about Kai Havertz, gasheads, he got the same discourse…

no idea if we get him… but why i want Hartridge? left-sided/footed cb in a 3; - take ball on back foot away from pressure & tilt a opposition structure laterally. - create passing angles where receiver takes it in stride. - pass stays in play b‘cos of curvature of ball.
