What is it with certifications no longer mattering in HISD? NES campuses are being staffed with some who are not certified for their administrator positions.
Teacher Specialists and APs/Deans are bullied too! HISD has made it a habit to overwork their campus Tier II leaders. APs and Deans don’t get OT, and do not even qualify for stipends yet they are expected to do the extra work under “other duties as assigned”.

HISD will lose quality teachers 2 other districts. A new teacher in neighboring districts makes the same as a teacher in HISD with 10-14 years experience. Time 4 teachers who know their worth 2 leave and support their families w/o having 2 work an xtra job.
One for administrators: Don’t speak negatively about teachers behind their backs and not have the courage or work ethic to coach and help grow them. If you don’t have the capability to coach (and some of you don’t), then get someone who does.
We haven’t read anything about Miles addressing the needs of our district’s large Emergent Bilingual population. There are no positions for Bilingual teachers or ESL teachers in his plan for hiring or did we miss it?
Please keep the lunch boxes and tote bags that we are given EVERY year. I concur with

We want more! This is a systemic issue. We have SSOs and Principals that have “scratched each other’s backs” while ignoring the voices of those on campus who have reported the toxic and hostile environments that some of those “back scratchers” have created for those in the WORK!
This the reason so many teachers R out sick on Fridays?! Or is it that we R tired of being bullied and treated like less than human? Or could it B that we are simply tired of being tired? What do U think
@HISDSupe
? We can’t strike but we all get sick!
The grievance policy doesn’t work & just gets those that file singled out & “blacklisted” in the district. Few SSOs are willing to do the right thing 4 fear of also being considered “snitch advocates”. Rather than discipline the Principal, they move the 1 who files the grievance.

We are seeing unethical things being done w/ ESSER $$. How do you not tutor kids & still get paid the $50/hr? Got DMs aplenty naming people & schools who are illegally benefiting from ESSER $$. Who is auditing campus use of funds? Hopefully an outside party. HISD covers 4 HISD.
Is
@SantosForTexas
the only one who knows that it is teachers and tutors that will truly make an impact on closing the gaps? Again, HB4545 requires a 3:1 student teacher ratio! Also, HISD’s CFO frequently uses the “I don’t have that information with me” response.
The HISD Board had all summer to solve its teacher shortage. Instead, at the last minute, they pulled 250 employees from the central office to help fill the gap. Is that anyway to put kids first?
If the campus leader isn’t making a functioning library a priority, then it’s a leadership issue. Many of these same leaders have kids who have access 2 books, yet they don’t provide access 2 books through effective use of the campus libraries 4 the students they R paid 2 serve.
This is horrific.
Are surrounding schools districts also experiencing a drought of school libraries?
Are students of color unworthy of a fully functioning library?
Some of my students haven’t seen a school library in over a decade.
Please keep raising your voice

Student achievement is just one factor of accountability & although we fell short in some EOCs we showed significant gains in ELA which has historically been our Achilles heel. Who knows TEA’s algorithm for ratings because at this point I’m convinced they don’t even know 🤷🏽♀️
How about stop calling them simply to steal ideas to post on Twitter as your own! We are tired of the race for principals to post on social media. Most of what has been posted from our campuses are photo ops that have false narratives.
710 teacher vacancies. I knew people were waiting to drop their resignations right before their 45 days!! Now we have a teacher shortage, and we will be putting warm bodies in classrooms just to say we have a teacher.

, we have a problem. These are just 3 of many DMs received.

@TeamHISD
is watching: Surrounding districts are announcing pay raises that will continue to keep them ahead of
@HoustonISD
's pay scale. The funding is there to pay our teachers and support staff better. It's a question of priorities. Let's get to work!
Will our teachers get the raises they deserve? Many district leaders and SSOs spend very little time in classrooms with our students, yet their pay is greater than that of those individuals who are with our students. Your thoughts on this?
They need to look at the misappropriated funds and OT that is being approved for the “friends” of the principals that work on campuses. Nine times out of ten those “friends” are NOT teachers! A quick financial audit of OT will quickly show you whose pockets are being lined.
Dear teachers,
How do you think your job differs from other jobs?
I’ll go first - Toxic positivity reigns KING in the teaching world. (Ex. Do it for the kids, if you stand up for yourself (“complain”) you aren’t a great teacher)
Can
@HISDSupe
stop all the ridiculous OT that is not directly involved with the tutoring of students? Some principals are wasting taxpayers money on OT for personnel who are not directly involved in teaching and learning.
Supt. House just announced a central office hiring freeze and a freeze of campus funds.
“This is necessary and it makes sense to focus on it now,” he says, adding the district can’t wait for federal covid relief $ to run out to start making tough decisions.
Not sure why people feel it’s okay and that others have to deal with it. If you are the principal and you allow it to happen then you are part of the problem.
It’s either that or they place students on Imagine. Students just click through because it’s a requirement. I have yet to see students take it seriously. Teachers use the program to “babysit” the students. Guess how much Imagine’s contract is worth?! 🤔🤔🧐🧐
After the school bells ring, some faculty & staff experience verbal abuse, intimidation tactics & harassment @ work. Environments that foster fear, intimidation & mistreatment exist & place our mental health @ risk. HISD does nothing to stop it. This is why many of us R leaving.

@HISD_Outreach
What is our district doing to close this gap? The Black and Hispanic students of Houston deserve to be served with a curriculum that is not culturally biased. More importantly, our students deserve access to equitable resources regardless of zip code!
The culture of many campuses is unwelcoming and toxic. District and campus level administrators have made many of us not want to continue in the district thereby exacerbating the shortage for next school year. Is it that difficult to treat people with equal consideration?
I understand there is a sub shortage, but teachers should NOT be responsible for covering the classes of teachers who are out for any reason. And if a teacher CHOOSES to do that, then compensation should be available. I said what I said. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
@houstonisdwatch
Let’s face it - this is expected to get worse before it gets better. The struggle to cover classes is going to continue for some time. I promise you as students were eating in cafeterias, the virus was spreading somewhere.
How many of our campuses have an art teacher but there is no student art displayed? A theatre teacher but no student plays? A music teacher but no musical performances? Our students deserve better. If you’re that teacher who has done nothing, taxpayers want their 💵 back!
We continue to have some of the least experienced principals in the schools with the greatest need. Principals are misappropriating funds to benefit the pockets of their “selected few friends” rather than do what’s in the best interest of students.

Did your campus celebrate those that keep the building clean and safe? Everyone, regardless of title, deserves to feel appreciated for the work they do.

I get “beggars can’t be choosers/something is better than nothing” but a librarian and a “media specialist” are not the same thing.
Energized is about helping line the pockets of Lois & her cronies. Students are not properly educated at that charter, & their records are totally out of compliance when the students move to a traditional HISD campus. Moreover, they often lag way behind their peers academically.

Another lesson for Administrators: What you think you can keep hidden in the dark will come out in the light. Stop bullying your staff. Stop talking about them to their colleagues. Stop talking about your SSO and area Supe in a negative manner because it WILL come to their attn.

So school leaders are prepping the schools for Mr. House’s visits next week. If they spent as much time and energy on instruction, they wouldn’t be worried about “looking good” they’d actually BE GOOD.
What incident is it going to have occur before the hostile work conditions, bullying and harassment that occur in many schools are catapulted to the forefront and taken seriously by SSOs, Area Supes, the District Supe, and the Board?
Let’s look @ the root cause. Campuses are festering w/ ethical violations by principals that go ignored. The teachers barely want to put up w/ the campus culture that allows for administrators to mistreat other administrators, teachers & even students and parents. Why not leave?
They should look into the overtime at some of our campuses. There is an abundance of unethical practices occurring by some campus principals. Spending tax payers money on people who sit around doing nothing after school or falsify time sheets to get pay not earned.
You can only be compensated as long as you are employed. Read your contracts thoroughly before signing. You are signing away rights that you had under your previous contract. All contracts are not created equal.
