*** ANNOUNCEMENT ***
From now on I am adopting a Copy-left policy. If you like a thread of mine and want to publish it, go right ahead.
1. No need for my permission.
2. Giving credit is welcome. It's fine otherwise too.
4. Any compensations will be donated. Please PM me.
India is almost self-sufficient in missile technology. Sophisticated state-of-the-art missiles are going from design-board to first-launch in less than 3 years, getting tested dozens of times in the next 3 & getting inducted. This success story must be studied and internalized.
L&T deserves way more orders that it currently has. Some of the best R&D, manufacturing units and management in India. I am thoroughly impressed. Is there a project where they have not been able to produce on time.
HAL is making up for some lost time. Recently SP34/LA2030 took to the air. SP27 took to the air in mid-Nov. That's 8 aircrafts in 4 months.
Pic credits: Incredible Deb Rana.
Okay. There is a lot about LCA Tejas production rate by HAL. Now that we know SP-27 to SP-35 have taken to the air within 4.5 months, does it mean that HAL is capable of producing Tejas at 24 aircrafts/year.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: please read on.
For those who don't know "that ISRO scientist": His name is Dr. P Veeramuthuvel. He was Chandrayaan-3 project director.
People of our country should know the names of all kinds of heroes.
Well done
@iamsrk
My generation of Indians did not grow up with this quality of build or photographs. We used to be jealous of the posters of aircrafts from other countries.
Three cheers to our designers, builders and photographers. Keep them coming.
Lap them up you teenagers and 20-somethings

GoI/IAF has done its job. Ball firmly in HAL's court now. 3 years to first delivery. The clock is ticking and there is no time to breathe. If HAL does its job, I am sure it will see more (export) orders.
Meanwhile, Mk1 pipeline has been unclogged. More good news by this weekend.
Wow! Everyone, please read this article.
A heli that was pressed into conflict even before any operationalization (even orders), outperformed every heli.

I keep hearing this again and again. AMCA is future. Jump from Tejas Mk1A to AMCA. Don’t waste your time on Tejas Mk2. IMHO this is divorced from ground reality.
This is a major capability. A non-emitting LCA at BVR firing ranges is incredibly difficult to find.
This is possible only when we develop our own missiles.

Astra BVR missile has been tested in networked mode. One LCA detected the target and fed the target info to other LCA which silently fired Astra. Phenomenal ⚡⚡

I have said this for years,"the true integration of Kashmir into India would be when there is no difference between living in Kashmir and elsewhere.
One must congratulate the Modi govt. NOBODY has done more for Kashmir infrastructurally like the Modi govt.

Many have expressed some surprise and confusion on the 6,500 crores allotted for building Tejas, testing and certifying Mk2 prototypes.
Some find it high! Actually, it is very cheap.
Nirbhay failure:
1. It is called a test for a reason.
2. Somebody wrote it best. Today's failure gave legitimacy to all the successes we saw this last month.

At 21, I was lost. But I thought I was a mature one. At 22, I spent an evening in jail because I was protesting against reservations in education. It was only by 28 or so, that I started figuring things out.
This is a very sophisticated prototype with serpentine air intake, fluidic thrust vector control, tailless design and full ATOL capability.

This is not a political post.
It is not about farm bills either. But this is the first time I have felt for Mr. Modi.
This must be tough! Wow!
I want to give him a hand today. A person to a person!
LCA Mk2’s nose cone is smaller in length (~10%) and diameter (~10%) than Mk1s even though it will house a more powerful radar and internal IRST. In this thread, I want to show you how this is ONLY possible by build, learn, repeat. Instead of read (papers/brochures), think, repeat
I am seriously bored with the quality of criticism on Tejas and the program. I often wonder how these criticizers even passed their class XI physics exam. May be I should criticize the Tejas program more. Inko koi naya material toh mile!
Many of you want to know more about this locomotive.
This loco is completely designed and built by Chittaranjan Locomotives Works (CLW). This engine is an incremental development of the WAG9 engines which has been a workhorse for Indian Railways for the past two decades.

Frankly, I don't care that this is a private rocket.
What I care for:
1. This is India's first semicryo rocket
2. This uses a completely 3d printed engine
This means that this can be incredibly low-cost.
Hearsay: "Tejas is such an immature product that it must stay in Sulur, close to HAL. Can't deploy near the borders".

The Space race has heated up a lot in the last two decades and India has been sleeping at the wheel. We were happy that we don't have to run to ARIANE to lift 4 Ton communication satellites or that we could send light satellites to Mars.
Others have been working at fundamentals.
The ISRO launch that I am most looking forward to is GSAT-20. It would be the first satellite with full Electric Propulsion.
This is a key capability enhancement.

1. Tejas Mk2 is happening
2. No major technical challenges
3. The rollout of Mk2 will predate AMCA/TEDBF
4. I wish the MRFA jamboree continues till Mk2 rollout because justifying it after Mk2 rollout and first flight will be very difficult.
I used to tell Tejas designers. Tejas looks like an engineer's aircraft. The artistry is missing. Those rough edges are slowly getting licked over iterations. The artistry is starting to appear.
Thank you

Urdu is not a language of Muslims. Just like Hindi is not a language of Hindus. Urdu was born and evolved in India. Don't disown it because Pakistan made it its official language.
Hindi and Urdu have enriched each other. Alive languages grow like that. Stagnant languages die.
One half of India is wondering: how to send people to space, landers to Moon/Mars, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers and helicopters/aircrafts that operate from them.
Another half is wondering: can we really design and build our own main battle tanks after doing so once?!
So, SP 24 became airborne yesterday. SP25 and 26 to join the party within a month.
I have waited for this day when nobody reports the first flight of a Tejas. I want it to become a frequent non-event.
1. The story starts 5 decades ago with Project Valiant and Devil. There was nothing to bank on. No existing designs or designers or data. No industry, no testing facilities. Only a handful of men and women who dreamt of self-dependence And a govt. which supported them.
Exemplary conduct by the officer to meet, and assuage the feelings of the crowd. And to publicly take full responsibility for the action under his command.
The remaining 20% is where the magic lies.
India did not become self-reliant through license production of any engine till date. It won't with the 404/414 either.
Only road through PTAE-7, Manik, HTFE-25, Kaveri, HTSE.
Mr CB Ananthakrishnan, CMD, HAL: "During the year, HAL & GE signed an MoU for ToT & manufacturing of GE-414 engines in India for LCA MK2. HAL would receive 80% tech transfer for this programme which will transform the Indian Aero Engine Manufacturing Ecosystem to be self-reliant"
I want to know the people who are writing the specs for MRFA aircraft. How can GripenE/F16 and Su35/F15 fit the same bill?!!! Literally spans ALL weight classes.
From the outside, the criterion seems to be: every non-Chinese and non-Indian aircrafts are welcome!
Boeing’s F-15EX Eagle-II may join the contest to supply the Indian Air Force 114 fighters for a multi-billion-dollar sum.
Eagle-II is the world’s fastest (Mach 2.5),most heavily-armed (13.6 t payload), longest strike range (2,222 km). 104 kills in air-to-air combat, no losses.
2. If CAG would write a report on Project Valiant and Devil, they would be termed abject failures. But not in my book and not by the measure of success that has followed. I say this again and again: "Technology is people. People are technology"!
The gun is fully operation. And I am in with those grills. That shows the leap in build quality. And most of this praise goes past HAL and to the next tier of suppliers of these parts.

More importantly, suits our needs.

RCI and DRDL are churning out missiles like hot cakes. 3 new missiles this year from 20 kg shoulder fired weapon to 2000 kg BMD!
They have all the lego blocks!
25. If you want atmanirbharta, it cannot be achieved through lip-service. It cannot be achieved by waiting for perfection on day 1. It cannot be done by drawing the developers over coal only to import in the last minute!
History has lessons. We must learn them.

: Thoughts are boiling over.
Many things have changed since 2005, when the first 5th generation fighter F-22 was operationalized. Today's 4.5 generation fighters are technically superior to F22 in every aspect but stealth and thrust to weight ratio.
Finally!!!
Some additions:
1. Astra Mk2 unguided ballistic launch has been successful. New tests against targets.
2. Astra Mk1 is akready flying with indigeneous seekers. New tests with AESA-based seekers.
This weekend I was away and a bunch of you have asked my thoughts on:
1.About first batch of Tejas accepted with “concessions”
2.The reduced MRFA numbers
3.License manufacture
My thoughts ...
The defense alliance between India and Israel and growing stronger! 🇮🇱🇮🇳
India manufactured and exported 20 cutting-edge Israeli Hermes-900 UAVs!
India's Adani Defence & Aerospace and Israel’s Elbit became the first entity to manufacture UAVs outside of Israel.

This fuel has been in development for over a decade. I first read about it in a paper that came out in 2014.
India's liquid ramjet story doesn't start with Brahmos. Russia did not pass us the know-why.
It started with adapting Akash's solid ramjet motor on a test stand.
Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur, has successfully developed liquid ramjet fuel that can power an advanced air breathing engine.
The fuel was tested at the Ramjet Test Bed at DRDL, Hyderabad, on 08 May 2024. M/s BPCL, Noida, and

@arunp2810
sir,
I am writing this after a lot of deliberation. It is a rant but here it is for what it is worth. Please know that I would not have replied unless I respected you immensely and cared for opinion greatly.
Indeed. It is not just about engines, but also radars, SAMs, SSMs, guns & other vital systems, built under licence, but claimed as “indigenous.” This self-delusion leads us to pay huge royalties to foreign Cos while creating complacency amongst politicians, scientists & public.

A few days back I had a discussion here with somebody on Dhruvastra and modifications being done on it. I was wrong. You were right. I tried to find you in my feed, but it's difficult. Dhruvastra now has a vane system for TVC. Excellent job. My apologies to you.

Beware, long thread.
NGLV and it's variants
ISRO's Next Generation Launch Vehicle aims to provide much better payload capacity to orbit with reduced costs through first stage reusability.
I have no problems with Adani assembling Hermes 900 in India. I actually welcome it*.
Just stop saying it is 70% indigenous! That's a blatant lie.
*Conditons apply: as long as it doesn't kill indigenous D&D. There's a very legitimate risk of a Marut redux here.
Too much outrage over Adani building the Hermes 900 in India. It’s better than buying directly from the supplier. And there are obvious benefits in terms of creating an ecosystem of skilled technicians and vendors in India.
Tejas, all variants will keep receiving software updates throughout their lifetimes.
This is the virtue of having truly indigenous design and autonomy.
Unlike Mirage or Rafale, even if they are license produced in the name of atmanirbharta!
