As Chris’s wife, this is a post I never wanted to make. I am devastated as Chris left us early yesterday morning. He fought cancer bravely, with humor, and with everything he had. He had an immense love for UVa and the Hoos. Your memory and light will shine forever, my love.
Look, Purdue fans, I knows this hurts a lot right now. But as long as you win the title next year, everything will be fine.
If you don’t win the title immediately after losing to a sixteen, who knows. That’s never happened.
Things that changed since the last time
#UVa
was
#1
:
•The USSR no longer exists
•Civilians can go to outer space
•We hold access to a world of information in the palm of our hands
Things that didn’t change:
•VaTech still hasn’t won a National Championship in anything.
Heading home from
#UVa
after what was intended to a be a 3-hour visit turned into a 3-week-long stay, complete with 4 blood transfusions, a rather uncomfortable feeding tube, and care from some of the best nurses and doctors in the world.
#StillKnocking
So picture this: You’re a Virginia fan and your team won the National Championship in basketball and your football team beat VPISU and won the Coastal. Crazy, right?
@GoHoos
If you don’t pick the Hoos to win it all while simultaneously irrationally worrying that we will become the first 1 seed to lose to a 16 then you’re not a true fan of UVa sports.
I want you guys to know I was offered free guac at Chipotle today and I turned it down and told them to improve their facilities instead. "I have enough guac," I said.
Strange feeling knowing no matter what, our season ends tonight. Jack Salt’s career will be over. This group of players will never take the court together again.
As a fan, I couldn’t be more thankful for the entertainment, the drama, and the lessons in humility they’ve taught.
Virginia is the first team to lose to a 16 seed and win the National Championship the next season. No one had done it before us. What a turnaround.

Good morning, Hoos. Start your day with an iconic, program-changing, very Virginia, play. The execution, the back-tap, the hustle, the pass, the poise. This is everything.

Me: If they cancel the NCAA tourney due to coronavirus fears I’m gonna be so pissed on missing out on my favorite sporting event.
Also me: If they cancel the NCAA tourney, Virginia will be the defending champs for another year.
Wow so two guys are following their NBA dreams, we get the top-rated uncommitted kid from North Carolina (beating out UNC), and are high on the list for a couple of highly-regarded transfers. When was the last time Virginia basketball had a Monday this good?
No one has ever won 17 regular season ACC games before. Until now.
Congrats to the Hoos on a remarkable, record-setting season.
And one more thing: It ain’t over.

Ty Jerome:
"I feel like instead of joking about it, respect UMBC for beating us because they're one of 3 teams to do it in the last year..”
A message that Hoos and
@UMBCAthletics
can both get behind.
On this day 9 years ago,
#UVa
hired Tony Bennett.
I was bummed because it wasn’t Tubby Smith or Jeff Capel. I was also hella dumb, apparently.
Happy Tony Bennett day, everyone!
"We have received inquiries about a visit to the White House. With several players either pursuing pro opportunities or moving on from UVA, it would be difficult, if not impossible to get everyone back together. We would have to respectfully decline an invitation.” - Tony Bennett
Received a care package today from the nice folks at
@UMBCAthletics
. Never could have imagined this a year ago, but now our two schools are bonded by the best redemption story in sports. Thanks to them for exuding such class in their great triumph.

Hey
@espn
, I’ll be listening to Duke-UNC on the radio driving back from the Hoos game tomorrow.
In case Zion doesn’t play, is there a separate station I can tune to with an announcer just describing what Zion is doing on the bench?
Aside from hitting the most memorable shot in Virginia history, what I will remember of Mamadi’s career is the sheer joy with which he played. He was so happy to be out there, which made me happy to have the privilege of watching him. Thank you,
@_mdiakite
Nostalgic. It’s over. So proud of all of the things I have accomplished coming from where I’m from. Leaving Charlottesville as a college grad and reigning champ. Thank you UVA for the athletic and academic success. Wahoowa🧡💙
So I’m going to tune in tonight, have some bourbon, make some jokes, and feel like I’m living and dying with every play. And no matter the outcome, I will be thankful for the journey. So thank you to them, and thank you to all of you who have joined me here for this ride.
#GoHoos
If you’re having trouble telling the difference between VT (VaTech) and VT (Vermont), remember that Vermont is the one that actually won an NCAA team championship in something.
Now that the sting of the UNC game has subsided a little, I feel like I can say this: I had a better Saturday night than most Hoos. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. It was a wonderful evening, and I am a very lucky guy.
Today is the 10th anniversary of this account. I, for one, am shocked that this account has lasted 10 years. I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me and the many incredible experiences along the way.
Form the bottom of my heart…thank you.
This is the survivor cape my soon-to-be 7 year old daughter wore at the
@RelayForLife
yesterday. She’s been cancer free for almost six years.
People sometimes ask why I don’t take basketball losses harder than I do. I suppose the answer is “perspective.”
While you’re out there tonight watching fireworks, maybe having a cookout or enjoying a cold beverage with friends, take a moment to remember that Virginia Tech has never won an NCAA team championship.
This is hilarious. Duke itself used to be intimidating, but now they have to fly the banner of another school to try to gain a mental edge.
ps Good luck with that.
You may have heard that this is Coach K’s final season (I think ESPN mentioned it).
Why am I bringing it up? Because I wanted to post this picture again. And I will continue to do so because it makes me happy.
That may have been my favorite game of the year. Despite abundant evidence to the contrary, I don’t believe Carolina is as bad as their record indicates. A win versus them, at their place, means something. Proud of these guys.
One year ago today the Hoos beat Auburn to head to the Championship game.
Got so excited watching the highlights of it this morning I dribbled my coffee on my shirt twice. But you know what? A double dribble didn’t change my enjoyment of it one bit.
If you’re complaining about ACC officiating by talking about how they handled the last play in regulation but not about the blatant missed 5 second call on the preceding inbounds, then you’re not really interested in complaining about the officials. You’re just mad your team lost
Dear
@GovernorVA
,
Please put up signs at state line locations recognizing the
@UVAMensHoops
National Championship.
In the interest of not hurting anyone’s feelings, you could also recognize Virginia Tech’s Group Soil Judging title, whatever that is.
Thanks.
Yer pal,
Phony
The hot takes are flying tonight.
UVa fans seem to forget that good teams lose games sometimes too. No, I didn’t like a lot of what I saw tonight. But it’s one game. Deep breath.
Everyone’s anxious to find out if he will enter the draft or not, but to me it’s pretty simple: There’s no way he improves his shooting percentage next year, so he should go pro now and get paid.
Best of luck to
@WhiteMamba_GK20
.
