#Bashlibel
, my birthplace, was bruttally occupied in 1993, when I was a little kid. Dozens of people, including my relatives, were subject to torture just because they refused to leave their village. The tragedy we lived haunted us for years, every single day since that time.
28 years since
#Bashlibeltragedy
. Dozens of civilians incl women,children,elderly couldnt escape massacre by armenian forces in occupation of Kalbajar in 1993.Those who can't leave sought refuge in mountain caves for days.
The satellite imagery of the place where I was born in Kalbajar. Once a vibrant place with lots of people became a "ghost town" in the wake of occupation by Armenians who have destroyed every single house. They're now campaigning
#PeaceForArmenia
. Do they know what peace means?
Great to see that the Chanchellor made a clear statement on
#Kharabakh
issue. The 🇦🇲-🇦🇿 conflict wasn't different from those other territorial conflicts in the neighbourhood, although the West refused to treat them in the same way to the detriment of regional peace and stability.
Me and my family were one of these forcefully expelled from their home at that time. We had to flee Kalbajar through the freezing mountains of Murovdag in April 1993.
#Armenia
and many in the world constantly ignored our plight. We demand justice!

My grandpa, 90, with a great pride and honor, returned to Kalbajar, where he spent 60 years of his life until the occupation by
#Armenia
. These mountains are our homeland, no one can take them from us, he says.
For a year before finally being expelled from Kalbajar by
#Armenia
in April 1993, we had to live there without electricity which was used for heating & everything else (we had no gas supplies). Wondering why? Because 🇦🇲 had cut electricity links to Kalbajar passing through NKAO.
Show me a single country in the world that would accept the presence of illegal armed groups within its internationally recognized borders! The full implementation of the 4th article is a must!
We, the victims of the Armenian occupation, never saw the West talking to Armenia tough. Nor did we see the Western experts and journalists like Tom calling their governments to talk to Armenia tough. Strange times we live, indeed.
Azerbaijan’s decision to use violence when the EU was actively trying to mediate in
#Karabakh
makes for a decisive break in EU-Baku relations. And that’s not all—also a pivot to Russia and a domestic crackdown. My piece today for
@Carnegie_Europe
It's surreal to see Armenian experts comparing the Karabakh issue with the 🇺🇦war, complaining that the West didn't support them the way they support 🇺🇦 & ignoring that the whole 🇦🇲-🇦🇿conflict started with 🇦🇲invading part of int-ly recgnzed territory of 🇦🇿.
Despite its commitments, Armenia has yet to disclose the fate of around 4000 missing Azerbaijanis from the 1st Karabakh War. We do not see any international organizations, including the ICRC, applying pressure on Armenia regarding this matter.
I am looking forward to hearing the name of my beloved town,
#Aghdam
among those liberated from Armenian occupation. Int. Community must firmly demand from
#Armenia
to withdraw immediately its forces from internationally recognized territories of
#Azerbaijan
to restore the peace!
@Tom_deWaal
Had the EU called for the demilitarization of the separatist regime and talked to them tough, as you propose in our case, we would have been more successful in the peaceful means. No EU member would tolerate a violent separatist regime on its soil, why do you expect AZE to do so?
Anti-Azerbaijan bias of this dude is so strong that doesn't allow him to call spade a spade. They were not hidden,
@joshuakucera
, they were razed to the ground or vandalised at best.
Asli, please stop talking about something you have no clue about. We were expelled from our homes under the guns of Armenian forces. Innocent civilians were killed violently because they either failed or couldn't flee in time. No one is doing a "Khojaly Massacre" to Armenians.
This is a tragedy no matter whose side you are on.
(Yes, Azeris have also suffered in the 1990s. And the world was not paying enough attention. But this is happening before our eyes).

Before the occupation of Kalbajar, we, the local Azerbaijanis, lived without electricity for three years as Armenians cut our electricity supply in Nov 1990 which was provided from Agdam via the former NKAO. Happy to see Az. citizens of Armenian origin don't have such hardships.
Noone is forcing them to leave. Quite the contrary, Azerbaijan offers them all the necessary conditions and rights to live together with Azerbaijanis. Quick restoration of the electricity supply from the Azerbaijani Energy grids was a manifestation of this policy.
The sad exodus from Karabakh is underway. Huge credit to
@marutvanian
@SiranushSargsy1
and others for continuing to tell us the human story from inside Karabakh under impossible circumstances.
In one of my articles I called for a mutually agreed mechanism to investigate war crimes and stated that peace and reconciliation between 🇦🇲&🇦🇿necessitates empathy and understanding to the tragedies each side was subject to due to this conflict.
It is ok when you bombard the social network and personal emails of leading political figures, but shameful when we raise our voice against your propaganda
The

News from

Good. Then accept the supplies Azerbaijan is ready to provide to its citizens in Karabakh and stop crying foul everywhere about the alleged blockade.
We all, who were forcibly expelled from our homeland by 🇦🇲, yearned for our return for long years. Now that we've finally got this chance, it is heartbreaking seeing our settlements destroyed. Some even suffer deadly heart attacks, as was the case with my relative, Z.Huseynzade.

The former "Lachin corridor" was abused as a door for separatism and occupation. No one should expect Azerbaijan to give Armenia this card again. Those who want to deliver humanitarian cargo to the region, Agdam-Khankandi Road is open.
It is so sad seeing people protesting en masse the peace treaty proposal which would include mutual recognition of each other's borders and a chance to end all these hostilities.
Large gatherings of people at two locations in Yerevan, outside the National Assembly and on Republic Square, calling for Pashinyan’s resignation. Crowds call him a traitor. Meanwhile, Nikol now walking back earlier words in parliament, insisting they were taken out of context.

Desperately trying to draw in Russia in the fighting, you share lies and fake news. Azerbaijan has no eye on the intl-recognized territories of anyone, we will liberate our territories!
"We're honored that H.Sassounian, our national hero, has joined the ABMDR family", Dr S.Avagyan, E.Director of Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR).

On April 18, 1993, Bashlibel village of Kalbajar was occupied by Armed Forces of

This inscription on a wall in Shusha reads "Checked! No mines." Yet, declaring all liberated areas as demined will take at least 30 years and min. 25 billion USD. The territories liberated, but unfortunately the impact of the Armenian aggression will be felt for long years ahead.
Armenian propagandists reject the accusations about Khachataryan as if no Armenians ever harmed Azerbaijani civilians in 1990s. The prosecution of the perpetrators of Khojaly genocide, Bashlibel massacre & numerous other war crimes is a must for historic justice & future peace!
NEW: The EU's civilian monitoring mission in Armenia has categorically rejected claims from the Armenian Ministry of Defense that one of its patrols was targeted by Azerbaijani gunfire earlier today, insisting no such incident took place.

After having rejected the so-called

@NikolPashinyan
made another move to minimize the Western role in the peace process. Demanding Macron's participation he surely knew that Baku wouldn't agree with this.

"Urges the Government of the Republic of Armenia to continue to exert its influence to achieve compliance by the Armenians of the Nagorny-Karabakh region of the Azerbaijani Republic with its resolution 822 (1993)"
This mindset turned out to be their tragedy. Tatul is now blaming the Armenian leaders on the present situation, as if people like himself were supportive of negotiated resolution of the conflict.
In this short video from nearly 10 years ago, recorded during Thomas De Waal's book presentation, Tatul doesn't appear to be any different from the majority who believed in Armenia's victory and saw the status quo as unchangeable.

Armenia remains a major spot for Russia to circumvent sanctions. Imagine how all the Armenian propagandists and their likes in the West on the Armenian payroll would scream out calling for sanctions against Azerbaijan, if if were Baku helping Russia in this game.
Armenia exported $800,000 worth of cars to Russia in January 2022, before the start of Russia’s full-blown invasion of Ukraine. In Jan 2023, it sent over $180mn.
@xtophercook
spotted a trend… and I ended up in a used cars lot in the Caucasus.
Since the end of the 2020 Karabakh War, 🇦🇿has been calling for a peace treaty recognizing each other's international state borders while 🇦🇲persistently refused to take any real move towards it. There will be no peace and security in the region unless the sides agree on this.

There is big international sympathy for Azerbaijan and the ethnic cleansing of its people in the 1990s. I strongly support serious negotiations to reverse that. Sympathy ends when Az. army starts ethnic cleansing of Karabakh Armenians, as Milosevic did in Kosovo. Stop now
For clarification: This doesn't mean that Azerbaijan is now retaliating or it has the right to retaliate. This tweet is meant to raise awareness about the troubles we were forced to experience in the early 1990s. Those who forced us into this owe an apology.
Some asked me for details of electricity cut in Kalbajar at that time. Acc. to info I received recently from the people who worked in the region's electricity company at that time, electricity cables were for the first time destroyed by Armenians in Agdara region in Nov 1990. 1/2
Yeah it was totally lawful and reasonable to accept Armenia into the CoE while it was keeping part of the neighbour's territories under occupation. You better stop this nonsensical propaganda and support the emerging peace opportunities between the two countries.
These people still believe that "Artsakh" is part of
#Armenia
& they shouldn't "give it away", completely ignoring that the territory they're referring to is internationally recognised as part of
#Azerbaijan
& shamelessly accusing it of irredentism and agression.
The concept of Pashinyan “let’s give away Artsakh and live in peace” was a disastrous failure. Not only it was immoral & treacherous. Simply because if you are ready to give something they will always demand more & more & more.
@Tom_deWaal
I think you confuse the EU and USA with UNSC, the former do not have a veto power on the actions of independent states who can themselves decide what they should do to survive.
Yes, even the Armenian people of Karabakh are lying to the Armenian media. The UNHCR Yerevan office is also lying. So is the Red Cross. Only Edmon Marukyan is telling the truth.
Of course they are lying, of course Azerbaijani propaganda is lying. The people of Nagorno Karabakh have been forced to leave their ancestral lands, their homes, their villages and communities. They were ethnically cleansed as a result of military aggression by Azerbaijan.
Who said it was ONLY established in 1993? Azerbaijan declared its independence within the borders that included former NKAO & admitted to the UN on this basis. UNSC resolutions reaffirmed Azerbaijan's territorial integrity & named "Nagorny Karabakh" a "region of Rep. of AZE"
@CommissionerHR
Show me one single country in the world that gives its ethnic minority an extraterritorial connection with the outside world. Karabakh is Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory and the corridor that connects it with Armenia should be under the control of Azerbaijan.
Indeed! Armenia weaponized water for long years as a pressure tool against Azerbaijan and sought to destroy key water infrastructure of Azerbaijan during the 2020 war.
Weaponization of water before it was "cool". Karabakh Sarsang, and more. Wrote a thesis on Water Conflicts and you can hear my conference at Columbia University on the topic at ASN 2022.
As opposed to what is propagated by some Armenians, there is no blockade in Karabakh. Apart from permitting the passage of humanitarian supplies, the Azerbaijani side has announced a hotline for any urgent needs the Armenian community in the region might have.

RESOLUTION 853 (1993):
"Urges the Government of the Republic of Armenia to continue to exert its influence to achieve compliance by the Armenians of the Nagorny-Karabakh region of the Azerbaijani Republic with its resolution 822 (1993)"
As an IDP and victim of Armenian occupation, I fully affirm this statement. We had to pass through unimaginable hardships and troubles in the aftermath of our forced displacement in 1990s. If only the international organisations and big states were more sensitive to our plight.
Non-discriminatory and non-selective humanitarian response and assistance should be the underpinning principle of humanity. It is a positive indication that the international donor community is helping armenian civilians from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, who, by the way,
The denial of the one of the most tragic episodes of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict - bombing of Barda - doesn't help the peace efforts, to say the least. It is unfortunate that Armenian officials like E.Marukyan choose to promote hatred and hostilities between the two peoples.
Parvin, I՛m so touched to see you've spent so much time to dig into my bio. But spoiling my photo, making personal insults vs. my words on peace, speaks badly of a diplomat with 30 years of career. I'm sure you'll be ashamed to look at my eyes when we meet in person as diplomats.
It is a false argument used by Armenians that the West's "silence" against Azerbaijan is related with energy exports. If oil/gas matterred, noone in the west would have sanctioned Russia. Int. community including the EU call the sides for a peace treaty which is rejected by 🇦🇲!

Don't worry, there is no threat to the Armenian nation. Just withdraw your armed forces, peace will be established and we will live together in peace.
As the new semester commences, I am excited to have the opportunity to instruct courses in international security and foreign policy analysis (MA) at two of Azerbaijan's leading universities (Khazar University and ADA University).
many forms of war crimes may happen during times of war. He couldn't sustain this argument though when I responded that the destruction in the cities and villages occupied by Armenia was carried out after the war and expulsion of the locals, not during the war! 2/2
Having occupied the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia made itself dependent on Russia's security guarantees to sustain the lands under occupation and protect itself. This alliance with Russia was therefore a voluntary choice of Armenia.
A video from the First Karabakh War has been circulated on Azerbaijani social media, depicting Arshavir Garamyan, an Armenian general detained by Azerbaijan's border service today. In the video, Garamyan forces an Azerbaijani prisoner of war to lick his cloak. Justice prevails!

The position of the Armenian side is absolutely provocative. The Brussels summits of Dec 14, April 6, May 22 and August 31 took place in the trilateral format. The November meeting was planned on August 31, not in Prague.

That is true: in the South Caucasus you're ignorant. You ignore the fact that the country you embrace had kept internationally recognized territories of its neighbor under occupation for long years in violation of all the international documents and resolutions.
A disastrous week for the EU. 🇪🇺 is neither united nor strong. In the Middle East the EU doesn’t play any role. In the South Caucasus we are ignorant+give Armenia the cold shoulder. In the Western Balkans we repeat the usual lip services. How many wake-up calls do we still need?

Important step. This interview also contradicts the Crisis Group's podcast interview, which argues that "what we currently have in Nagorno-Karabakh are a very poorly armed and small number of local forces (Olesya Vartanyan)."
The establishment of a mutually agreed mechanism to investigate war crimes and address the concerns of the people directly affected by them could be an important element that can be included in a peace treaty.
