One of my best friends and greatest mentors has died this afternoon, Skye-man John Willie Campbell of Errogie near Inverness. He was in his 80s. He will be most widely and fondly remembered as "shinty’s Bill McLaren” and the Voice of Shinty,1968-1991. He will be sorely missed.

Anyone who worked with the great Alister Alexander will know the significance of this type of picture in the Xmas card. And I still have the fleece! He loved his job. @BBCSportScot

Sad news on the passing of Alister Alexander who was the second of the great BBC Scotland sports commentators I worked with when I was just a boy. He loved the @camanachd and did it well This from a hot day in Oban mid-1980s. RIP maestro. @bbcscotlandsport
