My Shaykh in class once said it's haram for someone to give a khutbah without learning the fiqh of it. One of the students was an appointed khateeb and said "so I should stop giving khutbahs" My shaykh said "where did you get that from? I said learn, not stop."

Speaking for Arabs at least, the west has done an excellent job making the average Arab Muslim a self hating Muslim. They see Islam as trivial and something for unsuccessful people. The only thing they want is to pray, sometimes, and use Ramadan as an excuse for gatherings.

I always made sure to keep as a general rule for myself that I don't want to work for anyone who does not respect me. Don't feel like you need to compromise on your deen to be successful in your career. There are too many examples of religious Muslims to prove that wrong.
