Last night, HPD Traffic Division officer arrests juvenile operating a stolen car. Less than four hours after he was released on a summons, he was arrested again- in another stolen car. -LT. PC
There have been FIVE (5) fatal overdoses in the city in the past fifteen hours. We are seeing fentanyl present in pill form, mixed w/heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine. PLEASE seek help, there are many addiction services available.

Off-duty NHPD Capt Duff on busy Dixwell Ave in New Haven tries to interrupt a shooting. Captain shot several times, lucky to be alive. Initial victim died from injuries. Suspect is still on the loose. Please keep the victim as well as the NHPD family in your thoughts & prayers.

Forty (40) cars stolen in the entire State of Connecticut in the past 48 hours-mostly from the suburbs. 29 (reportedly) stolen with the keys in the vehicle. Many used to commit other crimes. Please, STOP leaving your keys in your vehicles.

Officer Donald R. Healey, a beloved 50-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department, has sadly passed away last night. Officer Healey at the time of retirement in 2007 was the longest serving police officer in the country. More info to follow. -Lt. PC
Last night, HPD responsed to the area of Garden St & Capen St on reports of a large gathering w/fireworks disturbance. As officers attempted to address the large gathering, unidentified individuals began throwing large scale mortar fireworks directly at officers. (1/2)
This should not be happening. Parents, guardians, mentors, police, community-everyone. All of us should be doing what we can to prevent this kind of behavior. Many lives have been lost recently by the hands of juveniles operating stolen cars. We need to do better.

Frog Hollow neighborhood narcotics investigation yields impressive results stemming from two related search warrants. Over 1,700 bags of fentanyl, 81 grams of crack and 5.6 grams of cocaine seized. Three arrests made.

resident was arrested this evening with this untraceable polymer 80 “Ghost Gun.” This gun was modified with an “auto-sear,” which converts this handgun to fully automatic. Subject arrested on a slew of motor vehicle and firearm charges.
Thirty-six (36) cars stolen in the state of CT in the past 24 hours, mostly from the suburbs. Twenty-six (26) of those (likely more) taken w/the key fob left inside. LOCK YOUR CARS, TAKE YOUR FOBS.

This Honda Civic with an aftermarket turbocharger/intercooler setup just crashed at 900 Wethersfield Ave into a parked SUV, launching it over 30’ and onto it’s side. Both occupants transported to hospital for treatment.

A new mystery Officer has been sighted in the Hartford area. This Scout hails from the North Pole Precinct and reports to directly to Officer Claus. He likes sweets and can sometimes be a little mischievous. “Wallie” is named after HPD’s first Chief Of Police Walter Chamberlin.

, we safely removed a bear that had climbed a tree on Chestnut St. in Hartford. After sedating the bear, it was removed at approximately 7 p.m. The male bear has since woken up and been released into native habitat outside the city.

In 1946 Tuskegee Airman, Theodore Napper joined the Hartford Police Department. He was the first African American to be promoted to Sergeant in 1958. During this career, Theodore rose through the ranks becoming the First African American, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Major.
The Arroyo Recreation Center at 30 Pope Park Drive is open as a warming center. HPD will assist people in getting to the shelter. There is not a parking ban at this time but one may be activated due to the weather so please stay posted.
ATVs & dirt bikes are unlawful on city streets and in parks. As a result of a quick last minute operation on Saturday, 3 quads, three dirt bikes, and 2 motorcycles were seized/towed. 9 charged w/various offenses. Most from New Haven or Mass. Transport vehicles also towed.
Shooting investigation earlier at 3395 Main St now a HOMICIDE investigation. Victim: 24-year-old male pronounced deceased at St. Francis Hospital. Suspect in custody and is cooperating w/investigators. -LT. PC

On April 16, 1979, Detective Cody was shot and killed during an armored car robbery. Two armored car guards were also shot and killed. Four people were later arrested and charged with murder. We will never your sacrifice in the service our city.
Detective Safia Rahman joined HPD in 2008 becoming the first Woman Pakistani Muslim in the Department and in Connecticut. Rahman was promoted to detective in 2016 and holds the distinction of being the first Woman Pakistani Detective in New England.
