When Nate Oats arrived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama had only made the NCAA Tournament twice in the previous 14 years. In the 4 years since Nate Oats took over, they’ve made the NCAAT going on 3 times, won the SEC and SECT, currently 12-0 in the SEC, and now a #1 ranking. Remarkable.

With Jacksonville St becoming a Q3 win, Alabama has officially not played a single Q4 game. They’re the only team ranked in the top 40 in NET that has not. For reference, Gonzaga has played 7 and Baylor 6. Alabama is 7th in NET and has the most Q1&Q2 wins in the country at 14.

Nate Oats was named HC nearly 2 years ago after Alabama lost to Norfolk St in the NIT. Alabama nearly 2 years later is #16 /18 in the country at 11-3 (6-0) and up 28 against LSU on the road. Nate Oats is incredible.

Alabama jumped from 77% to 90% chance to make the NCAA tournament after their big win yesterday. What’s interesting is the percentage jumped from 82% to 94% chance of making the tournament with 18 wins. 18 wins would be close, but 19 wins is a lock. 5 more wins.

Three things that really stick out to me: 1) Alabama held Grand Canyon scoreless for the final 4:05 of the game 2) Alabama outscored GCU 17-3 when the Lopes took a 58-55 lead with 6:03 left. 3) Alabama had 8 off. rebounds at half time and finished with 20.

Alabama remained #2 in the NET after yesterdays win over #14 Arkansas. With Oklahoma’s win yesterday, they moved up to #65 , making Alabama’s loss to Oklahoma a Q1 loss. With that happening, Alabama doesn’t have a single loss outside of the Quadrant 1.

Alabama C Galin Smith has decided to become a graduate transfer and put his name in the transfer portal. This brings Alabama’s scholarship total to 12... there is a specific Huntsville native SG that is still out there in the draft process that could fill that last scholarship.

West Virginia transfer Mohamed Wague has committed to Alabama. Wague was thought to be going to Kansas St, but Nate Oats did a fantastic job selling him on his potential role. The 6’10 bouncy big man will slide into the 4/5 rotation in what turned out to be a deep frontcourt.

This Alabama squad is DEEP! Two of their best players (Estrada and Nelson) didn’t even break double figures and still scores 100+ for the third straight game to open the season. Oh, and the defense held South Alabama below 50 points. This is a fun team.
