With a huge mix of emotions I will be leaving The Sentinel /
@Sotlive
in the New Year. It has been one of the great privileges of my life to work here (twice!) but I’m so excited to join the fabulous local charity

No one is more surprised about this than I am (having had a lifetime of indifference to sport in all its forms), but my son and I are now season ticket holders at

I know it’s annoying that the theatre ticket is covering one bit of advice. It’s irritating me now too but I took the pic for my own use a few weeks ago, not knowing it would become so timely. My mum tells me the bit missing says ‘within two hours of waking’.
“It’s heart-breaking and shameful that this most beautiful of streets has been ruined by a combination of neglect or urban planners who don’t seem to cherish the significance of the once mighty Mother Town’s heritage as they should.”

Good morning to all my new followers who have found me thanks to the Dr Michael Mosley tweet! It’s lovely to meet you. This is me 👇 I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme which is next to Stoke-on-Trent, and mostly seem to tweet about the local area, news, heritage and Port Vale FC 😊
I am completely blown away to be on the shortlist in the Feature Writer of the Year category at the

Second thoughts - I’m not going to waste any more of my energy on those awful people. But folks, if you read a story that you find boring or don’t agree with, just close it and read something else. Don’t feel obliged to have a go at the person who wrote it. OK?

I was expecting questions from the audience - this could have been held anywhere. Dropping in a few mentions of Steelite, Walker’s Toffee & the Goods Yard doesn’t get to the nitty gritty of life in Stoke-on-Trent, but at least we’ve heard about earrings & shoes 🤷♀️

I have two boys and have always said “books are for everyone”, “toys are for everyone”, “colours are for everyone” etc. They are both Frozen-mad and it has never occurred to them that they “shouldn’t” like it.

First visit to Hulton Abbey today - a 13th century Cistercian monastery founded by Henry de Audley and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. There’s not that much left to see - and it could really do with some interpretation boards - but it’s a lovely little Stoke-on-Trent heritage site.

Found a little treasure from when I lived in Erlangen, Germany. I’d seen Stoke-on-Trent-Straße on a street map and made my friends traipse out with me to find it. Pic obvs comes from the olden days when you had to wait to find out if your photos turned out well…
