Very sad news today – High Point Central baseball coach Andy Harper has passed away. He coached the Bison for seven seasons. But his impact in the community went far beyond. He will be greatly missed.

Word from Southwest (again this is very, very preliminary) is that Christian Martin is in intensive care but that the doctor's prognosis is that he'll be OK. I'm sure there's still a long way to go, but that's a promising start, all things considered.

Southwest coach Guy Shavers said during the press conference that the preliminary word on Christian Martin was that he was at the hospital and sedated. Hopefully we'll hear some good news in the coming days – that was honestly one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

Many people have said nice things recently about our awards. I knew in high school that I wanted to go into journalism, and I'm incredibly lucky to have stumbled into photography. I know I've said this before, but I'm just glad I have a small way to contribute to my hometown.

I did a little digging after last night's HPCA-WCA boys game and found that the teams played 18 times from 2008-09 through 2015-16. In 13 of those games, the outcome was 10 points or fewer – including five games in 2012-13 and 2013-14 in which every one was seven points or fewer.

I would encourage people to go out and watch them play. It doesn't even have to be "your team" – just enjoy watching them play (a high school game will run about two hours and likely cost you less than $20). Because stretches like this don't come around often.

Mo Blakeney has been named the varsity baseball coach at Wesleyan Christian. He has been the JV coach since 2016. Prior to that he was also an assistant at Westchester Country Day during its run of three straight state titles. His son, Nate, played baseball and basketball at WCA.
