Devastatingly sad news that John Wood has died today. Greenfield to the core, we will never see the like of Woody again. Fierce competitor, great encourager, family and cricket were everything to John. Can't believe we won't be doing a lap come the cricket season.

Really sad to hear of the death of Eddie Bayliss. Long time chairman of the SDCL and umpire. Old school proper gentleman. Never saw without a tie on. Will always remember his catch phrase at the end of every over in a loud and kind voice "That's over gentlemen"

Very sad to record that the incomparable Roger Tanner has died. Roger has been the club president since 1955 carrying on a Tanner family tradition of over a century. Also president of the Saddleworth league for most of those years too. Thread 1/2

There are lots of issues in league cricket generally, particularly retaining players and juniors. Wish comentators on here would not use this to decry one league over another or kick clubs who have great histories when they are having a tough time. 100s of volunteers...1/2

Performance of the weekend. No contest. 12yr old Amelia Buckley (who is captaining Lancs U13 this week) carried her bat in a 35 over game for GCC Women, with 82 not out off just 93 balls. Oh, and she 50 not out on Saturday for an age group team too!!
