I’ve offended families by coaching their kid “too hard” and “not hard enough”. I’ve played the better player too late and pulled the better player too soon. Coaching is a hard gig. It’s a whole lot easier when you realize you’re human.

I don’t give homework anymore. I give practice assignments. I haven’t done “gotcha” tests in a long time. Re-tests are simply extra batting practice. Why not. 🤷‍♂️ Stop treating grades as a competition. Who cares who arrives first? Help them arrive at all. Our kids. Not your kids

My advice to Dad’s coaching their son. 7-9u: He’s all ears. He’s trying to please you. 🙏 10-12u: He appreciates your help but he’s blazing his own trail. 👊 13-15u: I’ve heard it all before. Let me be me. 🤷‍♂️ 16 on up: Just be a Dad. 😢🙏 #thebaseballstory

General observations w/ HS baseball… 1. Bench players have no idea where they can add value. 2. Bench players, because they have no idea where they can add value, like to taunt. 3. Coaches need to teach bench players where they can add value and recognize them when they do.

Aside from pitcher, the only position on the field that is REQUIRED to execute on every play is the catcher. If your catcher’s role at practice is the fungo feeder....you’re doing it wrong.
