High school basketball coach, fan of all Pittsburgh sports, Wake Forest & Pitt alum and commercial finance and real estate attorney. Love is all you need.
I’ve legit watched this ten times. If you don’t understand the magic of sports, just watch the raw emotion here. It’s exactly why I coach kids. What a moment.
I've been watching baseball for the better part of 35 or 40 years at this point, and the Pirates do something like once a month that I've never seen happen before on a baseball field.
We are ecstatic to welcome as of 11:19 PM yesterday Dillon Rossi Williams to the world. 7 pounds and 20.5 inches. Mom did an incredible job and Dad was as useless as you would expect. A special thanks to our friends and family for all of your love, support and prayers.
We were ecstatic to welcome Rooney Francis Williams to this world at 8:11 this morning! Rooney weighs 7 pounds and 13 ounces. Mommy did an outstanding job and is resting comfortably. We are extremely thankful for all of the prayers and support that we’ve received from everyone.
Here comes the the stretch where the Pirates start to play better baseball and NH uses it to sell hope for next year’s team and excuse doing nothing meaningful in the off-season. And amazingly people will buy this again.
Mike Tomlin has won a Super Bowl, has never finished with a sub-.500 record, has the second best winning percentage of any active NFL coach among qualifiers, and probably half of the fanbase wants him fired. This whole dichotomy is strange to me.
No matter what happens going forward, I'll always have love for this team for bringing back meaningful basketball to Pittsburgh. Thank you Nelly, JB, Greg, Nike and Aidan for restoring the pride in Pitt basketball.

You aren't going to hear one complaint or shred of disappointment from me. The kids played unbelievably hard despite almost impossible adversity and almost pulled it off. Best season of my Pitt football watching life. I won't soon forget it.
#H2P
My problem isn't that the Pirates are bad, because we knew they would be bad. My problem is more that they are totally uninteresting. A bunch of journeymen largely. At least guys like Cruz and Contreras would make it more interesting to watch most nights.
You watch Gerrit Cole and Tyler Glasnow pretty much dominate good lineups in back-to-back nights and you just can't help but be mystified as to why the Pirates couldn't get more out of these guys. The trades were obviously awful, but the development was probably worse.
I've said it probably fifty times, but it was Kenny Pickett. He was special and was able to find a way to have the 2021 team transcend the general malaise that has characterized Pitt football.
Congratulations to Kenny Pickett on one of the greatest years I can remember as a Pitt fan. Much like Larry Fitzgerald, I wish him bigger and better things going forward. He'll never be forgotten here.
Anybody who knows me knows that there isn't much I love more than Pitt basketball. It really makes me happy to see Coach Capel slowly bringing the program back to life. Terrific effort across the board tonight.

Gerrit Cole is just ridiculously, historically great right now. Everyone associated with his tenure in Pittsburgh should be fired and possibly imprisoned for how badly he was mishandled here.
She's been far and away the best Athletic Director in my lifetime as a Pitt fan and she's a top shelf person to boot. People want to point to football and NIL, but the limitations in place with respect to Pitt and the city aren't going anywhere.
BREAKING: Sources have informed the
@PittsburghPG
that
#Pitt
has relieved athletic director Heather Lyke of her duties.
Lyke, hired in March 2017, signed an extension with Pitt in 2019 that tied her to the university through 2024.

Wishing all of my Twitter friends and family a very Happy Holidays! May you be blessed with good health and an abundance of love throughout the season and the year ahead.
Watching Gerrit Cole pitch right now is like epitome of dominance. I can't think of a bigger indictment of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization than failing to scratch the surface with him in terms of performance, then trading him for spare parts.
And I just received my best Christmas gift to date. Dillon just uttered his first actual audible words in front of everyone: “Dada”. Clear as day too. Great success!
I made the decision to ignore Pitt football today and celebrate my fifth wedding anniversary. I don't regret that choice, because it reminds me of the best decision I ever made, and that was asking
@DrKittridgeDerm
to marry me. Best five years of my life and I'm beyond grateful.
I just wanted to express my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me over the last ten weeks, financially or otherwise. We were able to raise close to $70,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I’m extremely lucky to have such wonderful friends.
I hope that Pitt wins today. Just as importantly, I hope that everybody enjoys an amazing atmosphere for college football and has a blast. Can we just all avoid being assholes and remember it’s just a football game? H2P
I also feel like what Justin Champagnie is doing right now isn't being fully appreciated. He's putting up numbers that very few players in Pitt basketball history have reached.
I'm actually crying in my basement right now. Real tears. I haven't cried in probably ten years. What is wrong with people? Why are people so angry? Why don't people want to actually try and fix these problems as best they can? It feels so totally hopeless.
I love Pitt basketball more than most things, but this is an abject failure on every level. There's not an easy solution, but I don't see how you can do another year of the status quo.
Is it funny that the Browns came into this game with all kinds of bravado and swagger and then proceeded to lose to the Steelers' B-team? Yes, it definitely is.
You can just see how much fun a good baseball team is in this city. Any sign of hope and people are just so happy and excited. It's such a shame that so many great fans feel conflicted because of the lack of any commitment from ownership.
If I've learned one thing in life it's that there's nothing more important than being kind and having empathy. I know it's not cool when you are younger to do so, but you have no idea the battles other people are fighting internally. It can literally save lives. Be kind.
In one of the most incredible displays of grit and toughness in recent memory, the Panthers move on to the PIAA semifinals with a 62 to 57 victory!
#PantherPride
Watching Ryan Luther play well reminds me that Kevin Stallings went 4 and 14 in the ACC with three professionals (including a guy who has played in the NBA) and two guys currently starting for UNC and Arizona. That's Pat Chambers-level bad coaching.
One of the seminal moments of my childhood. For all of the waxing poetic that goes on about Pitt Stadium, I feel badly for younger Pitt hoops fans that didn’t get to experience the Fieldhouse at its best because it was incredible.
I’m all for metrics and all of the information possible, but I still believe that winning games needs to matter the most. 22 wins and 13 in the ACC is an NCAA Tournament team in my opinion, no matter how trendy it might be to bash the conference.
It's really hard to see Matt Corral in tears on the sidelines. I do not fault any kid that wants to play with his teammates in a bowl game regardless of the situation, but to act like the ones that don't are bad teammates or don't love football is just a terrible take.
I'm so happy for this group of kids. To win without Fede and with JB playing like ten total minutes is such a character victory. Survive and advance! And as always, Hail to Pitt!
I'll argue that Pitt's offensive lines from 1979 to 1983 are the greatest in the history of college football. Russ Grimm, Mark May, Bill Fralic and Jimbo Covert are all Hall of Fame caliber players. Jim Sweeney, Emil Boures, Rob Fada and Rob Sams all played in the NFL. Amazing
If today is the last hurrah for the Kevin Stallings error at Pitt, I have to give credit where credit is due: I've never seen a program at any level destroyed so rapidly.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me why I’ve been so vocal against Trump and Trumpism when it isn’t my nature to be divisive or political. This is why. Anybody remotely objective who has studied history could see things building to this conclusion. I’m embarrassed and saddened.
It’s amazing to finally be home. Dillon seems super excited to meet his baby brother. My sincere thanks to everyone for your kind words and sentiments - they are greatly appreciated.
I think I'm turning notifications off for a while. People take twitter opinions way too seriously. I mean, I'm some random dude who is often bored and likes Pittsburgh sports. I'm not media or an expert and my opinion means the slightest shade above zero. Calm down please.
Incredibly impressed with Pitt Soccer tonight. They basically played an even match with the number one team in the country on their home field. I can't imagine they won't be in the NCAA Tournament and they'll be a very dangerous side.
I like to think that I keep sports in its proper place and don't let it bother me all that much, but this Pirates team is actually embarrassing to me. And the fact that nobody seems to be bothered enough by it to do anything at all is pretty maddening.
I do feel badly for the unbelievably passionate fans of this program. They never get any payoff for their loyalty and just suffer tons of heartbreak. But again, that's why nobody beyond the die-hards go to all of the football games and I don't blame anybody who feels that way.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the great dads out there doing the best they can to set a good example and try to make the next generation a little better than the one before. I’m thankful for my own father and my heart goes out to my friends who have lost their dads.
Congratulations to my dear friend on his 400th career win tonight. What an incredible accomplishment. I’m so proud to have been by your side for so many wins and hopefully many more to come.
I freely admit I’ve watched next to zero college football this season, but I’ve watched some of this Pitt game today and I can see why the boosters are so upset because this is borderline unwatchable.
This week has served as yet another reminder that Scott Barnes is the biggest villain in the history of Pitt basketball. I'm sure he's too busy cashing large checks and supporting his 3 and 28 basketball team at Oregon State to care much though.
It’s kind of Pitt-like to end up having to play the third string quarterback in their biggest bowl game in decades, but I’m just gonna roll with it and enjoy myself tonight. Feel badly for Nick Patti though - he looked really sharp.
It’s starting to sink in that I’ll never get to coach my five seniors again and the tears are starting to come. To Andrew, Jack, Josh, Landon and Zack - I love you and I thank you for everything you’ve given and everything you are as kids. I couldn’t ask for more.
Tell me what we do doesn’t matter. I’m proud to coach with Danny and I just love these kids so much. Our student section was just incredible today. The support is just overwhelming.
This is absolutely hilarious. The fact that he's 43 years old and playing at this level, and I'm 43 years old and broke my toe doing laundry last weekend makes it even more hysterical.
Couldn’t be prouder of my Seniors tonight. To clinch another number on that banner to hang forever on Senior Night is truly special. These kids are why I do this.
ESPN FPI also has Pitt's playoff chances at 9.2 percent, ahead of Clemson and highest among all ACC teams. Pitt has an open date before a big stretch: at VT, Clemson, Miami
My main takeaway from the Jeff Capel era at Pitt (other than just the obvious lack of success) is that I never have any idea what they are trying to accomplish, particularly on the offensive end. There just never seems to be a plan or an identity.
My heart hurts right now because I've never coached a group of kids who deserve to win a championship more than this group. With a little more injury luck this season, it just might have happened. Thank you to my seniors who were everything I've ever wanted my players to be.
That was absolutely incredible. To beat the defending National Champions on their floor in a game at the highest possible level was some type of grit. Congratulations to Coach Fisher and his team!
#H2P
I’m virtually speechless. I’ve never been any more proud of any team I’ve coached. The character and resolve they showed to beat teams of this caliber is simply amazing.
I've said this many times before, but Heather Lyke is far and away the best AD that Pitt has had in my lifetime and the University would be smart to do everything in its power to keep her here.
New story: Pitt athletics used to be among the dregs of the Power 5 in all-sports rankings. Currently, the Panthers are in the top ten. How AD Heather Lyke and her coaches turned the department around (men’s basketball included).
Jeff Capel is basically stealing money at this point. People can invent whatever scenarios they want about how the program was “going downhill” but the last two hires have been spectacular failures on an almost impossible level.
I don't want to overstate this, but I never thought a ten win season was going to happen again in my lifetime. It's been a really special season all things considered. Kudos to these kids and this coaching staff for doing something I didn't see as possible.
This Pirates run might be one of the most improbable Pittsburgh sports stories of my lifetime. I can’t remember something I’ve been so totally unable to explain rationally.
Apparently former Pitt basketball standout Demetrius Gore passed away suddenly. He was someone I idolized as a kid on some amazingly talented Pitt teams. RIP Freakazoid.
Grown adults trashing a kid for missing a very difficult kick last night is the epitome of the worst element of both social media and sports generally. Empathy and perspective are in such high demand these days and college sports demonstrates this on a daily basis.
So wait, they hit a 58 yard field goal to send it into overtime, then missed an extra point to lose the game by one in overtime? Oh my word, now I'm pissed I didn't watch the game because that might be the most Pittiest Pitt that's ever Pitted.
Really nice win for Pitt. It was a nice character building game. Was very impressed with Florida Gulf Coast tonight. They are skilled and next-level physical.
#H2P
I must admit, it's pretty impressive that the Pirates have now gotten rid of almost everyone important in the organization, except for the guy who is most responsible for the position they are currently in right now.
I've never been more proud to have
@jeffcapel
leading our basketball program than I am today. "The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people." Thank you Coach.
Shoot the Pirates into the sun. This might be why people overanalyze meaningless training camp scrimmages for the Steelers. It means they don’t have to watch this garbage.
I feel badly for Jason Delay. He's been better than anybody could have possibly imagined this season (a 1.0 fWAR for those who put merit in those types of things) and gets demoted so that we can keep the worst offensive regular I think I've ever seen in a Pirates uniform.
Pitt AD Heather Lyke said the court at the Petersen Events Center is going to be flipped so that the Oakland Zoo, not the courtside suites, is in the background on game broadcasts.
I spent much of my weekend watching youth and high school basketball and my biggest takeaway is that I have no idea why people volunteer to coach or referee at this point. Thankless jobs are common in this world, but the overt abuse I saw was borderline incredible.
I’d like to congratulate my dear friend
@robbiemertz14
on being inducted into the Upper St. Clair Hall of Fame this evening. A well deserved honor for the best I’ve ever seen kick a soccer ball in the black and white.
